Time to be friends (after the game), but I`m sure we can show Europe how to behave on foreign shores.

I have a decent feeling about this game as for the first time under WGS I go into this game feeling the other team will have to score at least two goals to beat us.
Why oh why can we not try and play football every week?
Credit where it is due and the team has played very well last two games. We need to take this onto bigger fixtures though and this will be an acid test.

I think Crosas should start, and this may be the ideal game for him. We cannot afford to run for 90mins and need a man on the park to stop the ball and chose telling balls instead of humping it upfield.

Boruc

Hinkel Mick Caldwell Naylor

Naka Brown Crosas McGeadie

Maloney

Samaras

We have to make good use of the ball and mark tightly at set pieces. Spanish teams are deadly at dead ball situations and if we can restrict them to long shots, Artur will be up to it I`m sure.

2-1 to Celtic and breaking our duck away from home :yikes:

Villarreal have more a South American flavour to them than Spanish. They will think nothing off mixing it if needed.

Judging by past away trips under GS, a hard working centre midfield 3 will probably start, which means Hartley, Brown and Robson. Maloney and Sammy are the others who are probably already penciled in.

I reckon Aiden will get the nod over Naka in a midfield 5 wie Shaun on the otherside.

I would like to go toe to toe wie Villarreal but GS's functional coaching method means he will revert to the template of all Brutish coaches.

I can see it being a 4-4-2 again, though the case for 4-5-1 must be strong as well.

If he goes 4-4-2 then I think it will be the same team that started against Aberdeen with Caldwell in for Loovens, and if it is a 4-5-1 then I think it will be...

Boruc
Wilson Caldwell McManus Naylor
McGeady Hartley Naka Brown Maloney
Samaras

My own preference would be that Crosas plays as I think this game is going to be all about ball retention and he is better than Hartley in that regard, but with WGS, who knows?

Villareal are excellent at the Madrigal, and a top top side, so we will have to be at the very top of our game to get anything from it.

I thought it would be appropriate to post the story about Vilareal CSC
before the match tomorrow :

:huddle: :thumbs.up:

Quote:

"Vilareal fanatic Ernesto Boixader fell out of love with football
after the tragic death of his young son - until Celtic fans brought
          joy back into his life.

The former Vilareal winger is one of 500 loyal supporters heading to
Glasgow for tomorrows Champions League showdown wih Rangers.

But Ernesto thought his days following the yellow submarines was over
when he lost his six year old bhoy Ernest 15 days before their UEFA
          Cup quarter final against Celtic.

However, the hoards of travelling Hoops supporters who partied in
Vilareal before and after their second leg clash warmed his heart.

And Ernesto was so touched he decided to set up his own Celtic
supporters club in Spain. The physics teacher said: " I will always be
grateful to the Celtic fans because they helped me see the light at
the end of the tunnel in my life. " They have helped put a smile back
on my face and there is no money in the world that could have bought
that". " Fifteen days before the Celtic Vilareal game I suffered the
tragic loss of my son Ernest when he died of a Cerbal Tumour. " My wife
Maria Dolores and I had been living with my sons illness for six years
and in those days I decided to stop going to football. I was so down
that for me life didn't have any meaning. " I was very sad because,
before every game, I saw many parents taking their sons to the stadium
and my Ernest wasn't with me.

" After the 1-1 draw with Celtic at Parkhead the whole City was excited
about the return game - except me. " I was walking out of work on the
day of the game on my way home. " As I walked to my car I heard an
unbelievable noise and went to see were it was coming from. " I was
amazed when I saw the Celtic and Vilareal fans singing and dancing
together and I had an unbelievable feeling that told me to go to El
          Madrigal.

" I am convinced that it was my son from heaven who told me to go to
the game. " Afterwards it was very emotional, I was in tears when our
fans stood aside to let the Celtic fans walk down the middle of the
street while clapping them. " The Celtic fans reacted by singing back
and giving away flags, scarves and jerseys to the Vilareal fans. We
          were all speechless.

" I dont know any other fans in the World who would react that way
after their team were beaten 2-0 and knocked out of the UEFA cup. "

The day after I went to see my brothers Jose Manuel, Javier and Julio.
I told them that we had to create a Celtic supporters club in Vilareal
as a memorial to my son"

We should all remember just what this club really means...........to us all.

If the Huns can beat Lyon 3-0 in their own place then we can go to Villareal and win! Why not?

No-one gave them any hope there and NO_ONE gives us any chance in The Madrigal!

It will be very hard, obviously, but if each to a man can concentrate fully and stick to the task in hand for the 90mins then we can do it.Of course we can!! ;)

We need to go for this one. I don't mind if we get beat 2-0 if we are positive throughout the entire match and try to take the game to them. Strachan likes to (sometimes patronisingly) applaud teams like Motherwell and Falkirk when they come to Celtic Park and refuse to sit back so it's time he followed his own advice.

I'll go for:

Boruc
Naylor Loovens Caldwell Wilson
McGeady Crosas Robson Nakamura
Maloney Samaras.

naylor on the right and wilson on the left of the back four is that maybe a mistake on your behalf b.k. or is it a new idea to flummox villareal :hmmm:

All part of the masterplan, Gerry :D

OK, swap Naylor for Wilson and McGeady for Nakamura. Actually, scrub that. Leave Nakamura and McGeady where they are, let them play on the correct wings for a change. And have Maloney playing off McGeady.

Eh, so that would be:

Boruc
Wilson Caldwell Loovens Naylor
McGeady Robson Crosas Nakamura
Maloney Samaras.

I think two up front is an absolute must for tonights game, and it's not like Maloney can't drop back into midfield to give options to Robson or Crosas who I would want to play a more holding role.

The defence is a big problem and it's one that I think I might have got wrong giving it a second look. I was away all weekend so haven't watched the game on Saturday but from what I read the entire defence was woeful. Maybe dropping the captain isn't the right move for this game, though. I'm presuming you watched the game Tiger, what did you make of the McManus-Loovens pairing?

I`m fed up with Celtic going away from home in the CL and getting drubbed 2 or 3 nil and it`s high time out of respect for the travelling fans that we look upon ourselves as there on merit.
Lyon, Villareal themselves, and Porto to name a few have all managed to master playing away from home and they are nothing great imo. It comes down to wether the Manager is brave enough to say feck it and go for it away v Villareal and the Danes especially.
If he had the balls, I reckon we can take the Yellow Submarines and could try a 4-3-3. Sitting back will bring Hellfire and we will galantly get pumped.

When the hun played them over there a few years ago, they attacked Villareal and were if i'm honest, very unlucky not to win

We should do the same and i reckon if we do (as Blair says) we will get a result!

Tonite is the night for the away day monkey to be lifted

2-0 tic

Good to be back!
