My Defrosters let in most of the rain in the South East today and I felt like I was riding with a couple of buckets on my feet! Next winter I think I will just replace them but in the meantime can you reproof the boot? I assume you can use the same spray on stuff that you would use on a jacket? |

I've bought some Nikwax footwear cleaner plus some fabric & leather proof to see if this brings the boots back to their former performance. From the lack of replies I guess no one else has suffered this issue so I assume I must be doing something wrong or just bad luck  |

The problem is the big hole at the top of the boot. Doesn't matter what you wear if it's raining water will get in, unless you wear trousers/gaiters over the top of the boots. |

Cheers Rob  I'm guessing yours were the earlier versions that were a lot shorter? Not saying the later ones are great but they are meant to be much improved. Not sure my experience backs that up though However I have to say my constant problem with cold feet is probably an issue with me, poor circulation or something. Could be compounded by cleats position as I've noticed now it's starting to warm up(!) that my toes are numb after longer rides but my socks are not cold to touch?? I don't know anymore! Perhaps my feet just don't like the winter! This ride I was wearing full length Endura waterproof trousers which cover the tops of the boots and should keep the worst out. Even when I'm wearing full length bibs I put them over my boots to try and stop the water getting in. I know what you mean though but I do try and stop this as much as poss. Next winter I'll buy some Lakes and be done with it

Andy, When you installed the cleats, what did you do to stop water from getting into the gaps around the bolts? I usually fill the gaps with bathroom sealant. Once I've got the cleat position sorted, I remove the cleats and, without moving the 'nut' plate, I surround it with sealant, smooth it out and allow 24 hours to cure before refitting the cleats. On the circulation front, numbness can be related to circulation issues, so you might want a slightly larger shoe, padding out slightly with socks - but don't overdo it. Good luck. |

To be honest Bob, nothing special at all. Always assumed that the receiving threads would be sunk into a solid mould of the sole with no route for water into the boot? Surely, these threads are not fixed from inside the boot! Or am I missing something obvious? |

If you look carefully, the threads are in slots that allow them to slide forwards and backwards. Depending on how things are done, the plate the that threads are attached to may or may not be inside/outside of the waterproof liner of the boot. (If, indeed, the liner is waterproof at all) Better to be on the safe side. |

Ah yes, very true they do slide. I still would of thought this mechanism is sunk into a solid part of the sole construction, be daft not to be! Still, would bet against it  I will have a closer look, cheers Bob. |
