Hey Muckybums!

So – I went for a lovely evening ride yesterday, out the back of our gaff in Horsham, up Denne Hill, along some Downs Link and ending up at Barn’s Green for a pint by the lake at Sumner’s Ponds before heading back via Two Mile Ash Road, and popping out at The Boar’s Head and heading back home across the fields again. Most lovely :)

The field leading to Denne Hill got VERY muddy in the floods but folk still trekked across it and now that it’s dry, all the footprints/hoofprints have ‘set’, making it a VERY bumpy ascent/descent (= FUN) but it highlighted a wee problemo…

Percy’s pedals are sh*te.

Percy is my 2008(ish) Specialized Rockhopper, currently sporting some not at all very grippy plastic pedals. Ugh.

So – hit me up with some recommendations for some lush flat pedals! I don’t care about ‘brands’ per se – anything will be a huge improvement on poor Percy’s current ones.

If they come in red, it would be a Brucie Bonus…

Thanks ever-so!

Hi,

I ride clipped in, but if I were to use flats I'd look at something like these. Good value compared to the top brands and have very good reviews. You'd need decent shoes though, otherwise you're going to feel the pins - so not sure they'll be good for your commute?

Hey Marc,

Shoes aren't a problem, I have 'bike shoes' for the commute/playing out :)

Something like these would be just the job (and in red, too - whoop!) thanks for the suggestion!

Is being a bike-ist a constant cycle (see what I did there?) of geekery, kit drooling, tinkering and gadgetery....?

It might be another reason I like it... :P

Mrs M rides with a set of these (in blue), not cheap but very bling and she seems to like them:

If you want something a bit more budget but still having the all important bling factor then you could try some DMR V8 flats....available from wiggle for a rather bargaintastic £22:50

However I'm a bit of a sucker for Hope gear though as it's early good quality, looks ace, works well and has the added advantage that it can all be dissasembled and serviced easily.

Those Hope pedals are lurrrrvly but alas, too many pennies for me at the mo...

I like DMRs :) They're a bit 'podgy' next to the Superstars mind you, though I did find a set in a wicked acid green colour, which isn't at all red.

I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure...

Cheers chaps!
