We were down Lewes way yesteday and bumped into Ashley and friends

Mid afternoon saw some epic rainstorms - Ashley did you get caught in those? We were doing 20mph on the Lewes bypass. Appalling visibility - huge puddles!

According to my rain gauge at one point the rain rate was 114mm/hr (that's over 4 inches per hour in old money). Luckily it only lasted about 30 minutes but Jevington and Polegate were very flooded.

I missed that storm by about 20 minutes after finishing my ride, even got the bike cleaned and put away, walked into the house and the heavens then opened big time ( so dark the street lights turned on, very windy, silly ammounts of rain etc) which I assumed was the tail end of the big storm and Tornado that hit Hayling Island...

On that note I wonder if Mr Du Pre got to watch a live action version of the film "Twister"?

It passed me around 1 mile to the West. I opened the curtains to see the patio furniture playing ' chase' round the garden , and some very fast moving low black clouds overhead.
Funny thing is the windspeed at home was probably on 35 - 40 knots , enough to rock the fence and move chairs, but nowhere near enough to fell trees and move beach huts .

wanted to do the Wiggle 100 and had an entry , but probably wisely sacked it off as it was grim . Muddy surface water hides potholes and frost damage and i bet there were rivers running down the sides of most of the route .

laughed when I saw twister was on the tele that evening.

the Police were up in the helicopter . " Be on the lookout for tubular shaped spinny cloud wanted for causing criminal damage to roofs and sheds on Hayling Island"
