Hi everyone, just signed up to the boards, so felt an introduction was in order, so here goes My names Chris, I've been in to Mountain Biking on and off now since I was a 13 year old boy ( now 33), who got introduced to it by my brother, he took me for my first ride on a very oversized alu framed Claud Butler must of been around 1992ish ( How I loved that bike, served me well for a few years). As happens often other things distracted me, girls...drink....usual stuff, so its been an on/off love affair with mountain biking, deciding I needed to get myself fit i've now been back on the bike for about 2 years, started with a Scott Scale hardtail and I've recently upgraded to a Whyte M109, the Scotts now been handed to my brother to get him back out on the trails ( kind of returning the favour) I live in crawley and will usually be found during the weekend in Tilgate Forest or Southgate woods...nice and local riding, I find it difficult to get out on weekdays due to shift work at the airport. I've had a fair few bikes in my time riding and tried a few different styles, but I'm now mainly sticking to xc for fitness building....although I like a bit of trail/singletrack to mix it up a bit, I tend to stay away from the big hit/jumpy stuff these days, was never that great at it. I hope to meet up with some of you on the local trails, be nice to make some new friends to ride with, hopefully I can keep up with the pace and not slow you all down to much, still working on the fitness side of things, its getting there slowly, much better than I was when I first started back on the bike but still have a fair way to go. I think thats all I can say for now, hope to meet up with some of you soon. |

Welcome Chris, I'm sure that you'll find us more than accommodating. If you can make it to the next club ride, it'll give you a good idea of what we're like and the kind of riding we do. Shame you have trouble riding on weekdays, as the Wednesday night Tilgate rides are always a hoot (although I think that this weeks ride was the last dry one for a while now :() We'll keep an eye out for you on the trails. Bob |

I'm looking in to being able to make the Club ride at the end of the month, might see if I can get my brother along as well. Would love to try a Tilgate night ride.......need to get some lights first though...although I guess it's more of a challenge if you don't have them

Southgate Woods / Hawth Woods ...same place There is a very quick path that runs around the woods, which I use as more of a interval training route...quick sprints around followed by a few slower jaunts around....can be a bit boring, so I tend to mix it up with some of the off track trails that go off in to the bomb holes. It's well over grown to what it was when I was a teenager, most of the bomb holes aren't ride able now, I remember spending my summers in the woods just clearing them all out and experimenting with new lines in to them. I find it can be a good place to get a few miles in during winter time, it's relatively close to home, and the path way never seems to get overly muddy. You do have to be careful of some of the dog walkers in there though....some of them seem to feel it's their own personal property and cyclists shouldn't be allowed. It's one of those places that if your local you can have a quick ride out of it, but I wouldn't go making a trip from out of town just to go there. |
