A while back, I had a discussion (with somebody), about doing a Saturday evening night ride in the Surrey Hills. Well, now that our angle of inclination towards the sun has changed sufficiently for us to require lights during mid-week night rides, it's about time we put those plans into action. Mixing this in with other discussions, my availability, clocks going back soon (take note, Guy*) and the ever earlier sunset times, I thought I'd put things to the vote. Pick one option from each of the location/date/time categories - people who click too many options (you know who you are) will be locked in the back of Hobbz's van with Guy* and the issue of MBUK where they did a group test for tyres. (And don't forget to charge your lights) * No Guys were harmed in the making of this poll |

Looking like Surrey Hills on Oct 19th, with a 17:00 roll out. Will leave things until the weekend, to give people enough time to vote, then I'll set things in stone. This will then give people enough time to bake cakes. |

5pm roll out is a bit 'No Mans Land' IMO, it won't even be dark for an hour and a half + when are we meant to eat? Who is intending to lead this ride and which area's do you intend to ride? Leith/Holmbury/Pitch/Winterfold? |

Good points Mark. Sunset time on the 19th is 18:00 but allowing for the fact that it's not usually [cornishaccent]proper dark[/cornishaccent] until some time after this, and that it's actually a full moon that night (rising at 18:10) lights might not be needed for the first hour or so. (Tree cover may also be a factor, though) The inclusion of 17:00 as a start time was, however, initially included to cover the possibility that Nov 2nd was chosen as a date (sunset is 16:30 on that day, due to the clocks going back in a few weeks :ph43r: ) but that seems to be the time that people have chosen, so we might just stick with it unless there's a sudden rush of feedback in favour of 18:00, now that you've raised the issue. As far as eating is concerned, were you worried about the start time clashing with pre-ride family meal at home, or were you hoping to grab a pub meal afterwards? Personally, I was thinking of having a reasonable sized lunch then bringing plenty of high carb snacks. (Thoughts of a post ride BBQ are starting to form in my head now) Pitch and/or Winterfold sound good to me, as we tend to ride those a bit less than Leith/Holmbury - anybody fancy leading the ride, or supplying a GPS route? Duration is also a consideration - back to the cars by about 20:00? |

Thanks for the feedback Andy - see you at the club ride. As Peaslake is not likely to be as dusty as the picture above, I'm going to postpone until another date. |
