The Cycle show – NEC Birmingham 29th Sept 2013 As I missed this month’s club ride for the show I thought I would share my experience with you all. 170 mile trip from Chichester (where I live) to Birmingham so an early start was called for, 7 o’clock roll time and I and my lovely girlfriend who persuaded me to go in the first place are on the road. As the miles roll by and my punto passes the milestone of passing 10000 miles, I’m keeping my fingers crossed as every time I’ve attempted a long haul trip we have had a breakdown and a trip home on the back of an AA truck. Now there’s some news for everyone which I’ve been meaning to share and this is as good a time as any, I’m going to me a father in 11 weeks to a baby girl. As you can guess we needed to take a few rest breaks on the way over, Toilet for her smoke break outside of the car for myself. So we arrive at the NEC at around 11 o’clock to find out they have started charging for parking, It’s been years since I’ve last been there with my parents for crufts so not really surprised. The show itself takes up three of the halls with everything from MTB, Road, E-bikes and everything in-between. There’s bike manufactures like Cube and Trek showing off their new lines , Something that surprised me was the weight of new hard tails, there no lighter than my 97 kona till I started looking at the carbon frames. The trade stands have all sorts on offer, some really interesting ideas for cycling including mirrors you strap to your arm to use as a rear view mirror, HD camera sunglasses. I found myself at the zipvit stand trying out there different energy bars loads better than the SIS offerings. Came away with some early Christmas presents including a new triangle bag and a phone battery at bargain prices. Fell for a new helmet made by casco Urban-TC they had run out of the medium size so left my details with them and got a call the next day saying they had stock in their main warehouse. As for entertainment they had demos bikes on offer for people to try for themselves, skipped that part of it as there was about an hour line. They had a massive airbag set up for people to try out jumps and tricks without the risk of breaking anything. Best part for me though was the BMX and trails arena. Surprised seeing some of the tricks thoughts boys were able to pull off without breaking anything. Had this one bloke come up the ramp jump onto the handrail and bunny hop his way around and come back the other way. To sum up the show was well worth the trip, if I was going to do it again I would take a packed lunch as every place for food was jammed packed and without any other food retailers other than what the NEC already has the choices were limited. Also noticed a lack of clothing retailers I was aiming to pick myself up a new pair of shorts but all they really had was Road jerseys. Link to some pictures below, ![]() ![]() ![]()

Bryn Firstly - congratulations ![]() Secondly - thanks for sharing - a very interesting read. Sounds like you had a good day and even came away with some decent goodies (despite the lack of clothing manufacturers!) R |
