All, A real treat for this months' Club ride - a return to an ever- developing trail centre to the east of our patch - Bedgebury. ![]() March 2008 - Sally avoiding the mud! Those who remember our last visit there (in March 2008 ) will probably have memories of:- - Epic amounts of mud - Singletrack with flat gravelly corners without too much flow (but it was singletrack and jolly good fun all the same) - Damaged bikes and walks to the cars - including a mech hanger breaking on an expensive test bike, and the famous "rummaging for bike parts in a muddy puddle" moment ![]() Since that trip, lots of good things have been happening at Bedgebury, and continue to do so. I rode the trails a few weeks ago and was really impressed. Little berms have sprouted everywhere, there's flowy sections galore and even a black optional route with a fine tester "qualifier" rock ramp to ride up. Any of you who have ridden there recently will hopefully agree ![]() So - it is about time we revisited, this time before the clag sets in too much. One section of singletrack is still under construction, but fear not - we have a plan. Our ride on Sunday will be led by the guys and girls from Boars on Bikes, the bike club that works to build and maintain the trails. They have promised to show us some trails away from the main red route - so we are privileged indeed. So, here's the details Where: Bedgebury Trail Centre, near Flimwell - location here clicky What: 4 hours ish of a mixture of hand-dug woodland singletrack, and off piste trails. Expect wonderful flowy trails through trees, the odd technical obstacle and little trail jumps. It will all be rollable, and we will warn of any technical features in advance. As ever, there's always a way around or an alternative if for whatever reason you don't fancy what's in front of you. As ever, no one will get left behind and there will be the usual Muddy@rse friendliness, banter and really bad german accents :o. When: Sunday 29th Sept, 10 for 10:30 roll. Gather down by the on site bike shop (Quench Cycles) Special Notes: Bedgebury is unique in funding its trail-building and maintenance activities through a unusually high parking fee. Its £8.50 for cars - yes I know its a bit steep BUT the trails do get improved with your money. I'd advise if you can to car share, or alternatively, if you must, there are places to park nearby and you ride in (you can search the internet and this forum to find those). Alternatively, there's quite a lot to do on the site, so its perfect to bring family members/friends/neighbours/children for a day out and share the parking fee that way. As ever, we'll bring the tea and coffee, you bring the cake There is an on-site cafe if you'd like something more substantial before or after the ride - we will be out in the forest so you'll need to come fuelled for the day. This is going to be a special ride - we're very lucky to be guided around Bedgebury by some real locals, so who's up for some singletrack woodland fun? Is it worth contacting the Bike shop or someone from Boars on bikes see if they would do some tour guiding?Bit of secret track may be? I think Flexgirl wanted to come on one of our rides once she seems to be active in their club have access to their forum under my alter ego of Rudolph Hucker

I will not be attending as I've stupidly allowed myself to be volunteered to help change the tunnel portal aerials as Oxted Tunnel Country end. We have to carry test equipment, ladders and aerials about a mile down the track. Last time we did it, it hailed and the temperature dropped 10 degrees in about 5 minutes and the vans got broken into....so I'm REALLY looking forward to it. |
