Any recommendations for a suitable front light setup so I can play as the nights draw in? Would like to try my hand with Tilgate once again and hence will need lights but even if I just want to go out myself after work on these darker evenings what sort of setup and cost should I be looking at? I guess this is the piece of string question and very dependant on budget. My gut feel is I can stretch to £100 or a bit more but certainly not over £200 just yet as I also have a rack for the car to sort out so lower would be better. Now I can obviously pick something out of the online stores but just wanted to know if you guys would say that the pricey models are not needed and something for, insert random number, was fine? Or is it the more the better and you get what you pay for? Is something like the Exposure Diablo way overkill or perfect for example? Thoughts and points welcome. |

Andy - welcome to Muddy@rse - and good to see you are planning for the darkness riding to come ![]() The ultimate combo is a bar mounted light, along with a helmet mounted one too. It's helpful to be able to turn your head and see what's coming! I have one of these but there are loads out there... R |

Cheers Rich, trying to be prepared for the conditions I'll soon be facing with the Great British winter ahead! Really picked the right time of year to rekindle my interest in cycling, doh. Be interesting to join the Tilgate runs if I can on Wednesdays, should be a laugh in the dark! Good advice on two lights though. These Cree lights are so much cheaper than expected I think I might cover the bike in them  Two of them are certainly not going to break the bank like I originally thought by window shopping at the main cycle outlets

Think I'm going to take the plunge and buy two then. Either way I get a spare or use both, win win

Welcome. We have regular tilgate ventures throughout the winter and I am amazed that it's that time again!!!! There's usually a Tilgate Wednesdays post up with a ride being organised by one of the muddy@arsed crew It's very much fun zipping round there and there's always a plethora of light combos on show. Those £16 XML lights are the biz. The best part, they're super bright, last all ride and also, if you smash it on a low branch or you fall and crush it....it's not £200 as with an exposure joystick. Although they'll probably survive it said events occured - they're tough. |

Thanks guys, ordered just one for now to have a play with. Figured I might want a cable less light for helmet but this will at least enable me to carry on riding as the evenings draw in an perhaps join on the Tilgate rides. I work in Crawley anyway so all I need to do now is sort out a bike rack and I'm good to go

Very good price for what looks like a MagicShine clone. It's worth spending a few minutes water proofing these as they are made to a price not our weather. From memory the weak areas are the screw on front piece and the battery pack but a bit of common sense should show what can be improved with a bit of tape or silicon sealant. The 4 cell battery pack is not balance charged so expect a shortish life and don't leave on charge for extended periods as it's likely the cells are unprotected. Replacement packs are easy to find or just buy a spare whilst they are available for a bargain price. |

Thanks Tony for the advice Still waiting for it to turn up but when it does I'll give it an inspection to check out the areas to seal. However at this price it's almost disposable!

Hi You need one of these on your bars .- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/130941337921?ssP...984.m1439.l2648 And one of these on your helmet .- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UltraFire-WF501B...=item257b39d0e6 Then just carry a spare 18650 battery or 2 and your sorted . you get the security of have a decent spare light if one fails ,, you might have to slow down a little bit though . Plus running 3 x xml emitters enough lumens that you will not be riding in your own shadow . If you need extended run times then bigger , better battery packs are available from mtb batteries if you are looking at things like the Maxx Enduro |

Cheers Rob, that's given me another option to consider. I really like the look of that dual led handlebar light, wish I had seen that before but no point changing just yet. I'm liking the Fluxient U2 MIni as a helmet light but its twice the price of the one you have linked to and I believe they both run the same led so I might try your one for now. My cheep light turned up today and has been charged and tested in the garden. To be honest I'm pretty impressed considering the price! Just need to get out for a night right to properly test it ![]() This is a helpful blog I found by going back through some old threads on here; http://www.torchythebatteryboy.com/p/bike-...t-database.html If this is to be believed some of the cheaper lights like the Fluxient seem to out perform the much more expensive Exposure lights! |
