Paid £700 for my Spesh hardtail 5 years ago, and have put a lot of miles on it, particularly in the last 2 years. It's done a lot of the Quantocks, South Downs Way, 24/12, Big Dog, Maxx Exposure, numerous xc rides, hammering singletrack, night rides. The only upgrades I've made (bar the usual wearing parts like drivechain and tires) have been a bargain wheelset from Evans and some second hand Raceface cranks. It's served me very well but have decided it's time for an upgrade later this year. So, some advice please... I also have a full sus 1x9 setup which is great for blazing singletrack but I'm wondering if there's a "do everything bike" out there, and in which case trading in both bikes for one reliable steed could be an option, or am I limiting myself too much? Option 1) I have one bike, I'm thinking a steel hardtail 29er and keep coming back to the Genesis High Latitude. Interested to hear if anyone has one of these or similar. Like the old school style of this. Also looked at Cotic Solaris but think a complete build may be costly. Option 2) Keep hold of the full sus and get a lightweight xc bike. Something like the Trek Superfly AL or Cannondale Trail SL or Scott Scale 950 Any other ideas appreciated. Also I feel that the 17" frame I currently ride is on the small side so will be considering 18.5" or 19". |

If this was a combat situation, we'd be dead by now.

Personally, I'd keep the bouncy bike and get a lightweight hardtail. The 'dale looks lovely... |

I you have the space, keep the bike and add to the collection. I go through 'moods' which can last six months or more. At the moment I have no interest in riding the full suss, the hardtail is currently destined to stay in singlespeed mode (with the Alfine wheel and shifter languishing in the corner), and my cross bike is currently my top choice just because it feels a bit silly. I know that if I were to sell a bike, three months later I would be regretting it

Option 2 I think....then change the Spesh to Single Speed and you have the best of all worlds then... Full Sus for those rocky trips away...fast xc for blasting around and a S/S for all your proper riding!... Simples... |

Keep full sus and gradually upgrade bits and get a 29er Hard tail for races and long rides. |

Did I just see Ming suggesting a 29er. Must be sunstroke from my ride on Sunday ![]() 29er hardtail sounds good to me - great for mile munching on the downs and conquering roots in the forest. |
