So having been persuaded (arm twisted/cajoled/press ganged) by RichF into sorting the October ride, this months club ride will be at in Houghton Forest and Rewell Wood near Arundel starting from Whiteways carpark. the ride should be about 15-17miles and of a mix of forest singletrack, fireroads and a few fast open downland climbs and descents. The trails are fun rather than technical but at this time of year mud and wet chalk can always be an issue so its on with the mud tyres and crudcatchers. The ride is singlespeed-able (for those that enjoy such levels of pain or stupidity) but there may be one or two very steep SDW climbs depending on the days conditions so you have been warned... As always its meet up from 10am and rolling at 10:30 and as its me doing the leading I may even be on time.. cake and coffee donations will be greatfully recieved. Start point: Whiteways lodge carpark on the A29 above Arundel map here large carpark next to the cafe |

Update: I did a recce of most of the route this morning and I can happily confirm that it is ever so slightly a teensy little bit muddy in places... the trails in Houghton forest are still all ok some of the less well used trails are a bit overgrown but still passable. We may be starting with a run into the Arun valley and a long climb on the SDW but this is really weather dependant. So, who is up for this? |

Guy. Is that the descent from the top of Bury Hill, down into Amberley? That'll be fun if the chalk is damp. Count me in! |

If the weather gods play the game this week which means Rick won't have to work the weekend, we should be there. Already appreciating everyone's patience on climbs, etc, as I will be pushing shonky knee to the max to try and keep up. @Guy - any short cuts i can take to help keep group flowing would be appreciated :-) BTW - we is 6 on Sunday

@Lisa, it would be great if you guys can make it ( this whole silly club being your fault ! ) There are a few bug out options and a few fire-roads available that should be more shonky-knee friendly if required. Weather forecast for the weekend looks ok (as in not actually raining much) but there is not a lot of a chance of the trails drying out...it may be cold though but a late October frost that creates some hardpack is unlikely...boo. Muddy@rse is 6years old...flipping 'eck, where does the time go? Oh yes, one other thing...Clocks go back on Saturday night so everyone else gets an extra hour in bed and I actually have a good chance of being on time on Sunday morning. |
