I am after a new front wheel. Something much lighter but just as strong as what I have. Which is an old Sun Double Track and looks like its been taken off a tank.

Was looking at a custom build of a Hope Pro 2 with a light AM rim, CRC had a Mavic 321 enduro rim which is perfect. And that build came to £108 (Bargain?!) and that was with the red hub.

However I just found Pro 2 Evo On Stans ZTR Flow for £114.... Is that going to be better do we think?

Evolution also had a build Pro 2 on a DT Swis 5.5 rim (I think) and that was GORGEOUS. Weighed nothing. Although its £140 which is really just out of reach for me!

Any thoughts?

Stans are great for running tubeless, and the flows are really strong. Great choice, you won't regret it.

Also you can change adapters to run it 15 mm or QR so very flexible.

Another vote for the Stans. Guy has a pair, Sally has a pair and I have a pair, and I've just bought secondhand set for my hardtail.

Light, strong and relatively cheap.

The tubeless kit they mention on CRC is merely a valve, some yellow tape to seal the spoke holes, and Stans sealant...then you can use any tubeless ready tyre if you want to give tubeless a go.

Right... I think its time to save up a few more pennies then! I'll see if I can get a red hub too... Its gotta be bling right?

If you want bombproof the look at Mavic EN rims.

I currently have an EN521 laced with S/S plain guage DT Spokes on a Hope Pro II 20mm hub. 3 trips to Afan, thrown off everything Sussex and Surrey have to offer and 3 24 hour enduros. Still straight as a dye. Speak to Merlin Cycles. IMO one of the best wheel builders in the country by far. Freeborn and Evo have a good wheel builder as well though from what I hear.

Just to back up Chadders...I've had brilliant wheels from Merlin as well. Straight, and stay straight, unless Hobbz is in the vicinity :)

Do you provide the upgrades free of charge too?

I've looked at the Mavic EN rims as a build option and I like the look the pro 2 with a EN321 with the s/s spokes for £114 from merlin...

Never thought I'd consider £100+ on ONE wheel!

Same as mine but I think the 521 is just a little chunkier. As am I!

I would have to clear it with Sally, but I have here in front of me a Shimano XT M775 UST front wheel in good nick, the rear had a hopeless freehub but nothing wrong with the front. It even has bling red nipples. It was off her Lapierre, perfectly straight and true although the silver anodised design does have a few scuffs and scratches.

Looking at ebay and then lopping a large chunk off, £40 if anyone wants it. Has a 160mm centre lock disc fitted and I'm sure I can find the UST valve for it if I look hard enough.

EDIT: Ignore all I said, its a QR wheel and I just noticed your thread title says 20mm

Assuming its not a 20mm? tho I might be interested in it for the Felt. I imagine its lighter than the current wheel on it.
