Out of neccesity (just before the Maxx Enduro) I had to test a Genuine Innovations tubeless tyre repair kit yesterday. Costs about £5 and includes 5 "Anchovies" which are basically tacky rubber strips and a little forked metal prong to push on of these into the hole in the tyre. Big advantage is you can do a repair without removing or indeed fully deflating the tyre. its really for holes that are just too big for the tyre sealant to fix, proper tears or rips in the sidewall will mean a more involved repair ( I've heard that you can use old cut-up toothpaste tubes and super glue for this) or go for broke and buy a new tyre then spend a happy hour or two trying to fit and seal this to the rim... Was very suspicious that this would actually work, even after the sales guy at Quest insisted it would. Repair took about 20seconds to do, tyre pumped up fine and held pressure all night and is still ok today after 42miles of south downs riding....Result Any other repair ideas that work? |

I've used the anchovies to great success, even on 5mm+ slits, I've also used conventional patches glued to the inside of the tyre and one of my FR3's has had that patch for over a year now. Not tried a side wall repair as the last one I had puncture that way was a slit about 1cm long so converted that tyre to inner tube. |
