It's settling on the road, here in Crawley.
If it continues through the night, There is no way that I'll be getting up the North Downs to work tomorrow.

Expecting 15-20cm on the ground by the mornng in surrey and Hampshire. 5-10 in Sussex less again in East Sussex apart from the South Downs where anything up to 40cm could fall.

Bob - Stay at home.

Pi$$ing down in East Preston though...no sign of the white stuff here :(

Im not back to work until thursday (partly due to being plain lazy and the minor issue of only just having my work contract sorted) so here's hoping for some snow to play in tomorrow ;)

Light dusting last night, swiftly followed by (shock horror as we live in a no through road) a gritter, swiftly followed by rain which melted the snow.

Still nothing this morning when I woke up, at least its making an effort now, the road is just starting to get covered :)

Up the hill other side of Newhaven (edge of South Downs) there is about an inch, so we only just missed out overnight. Horse not very impressed, doesn't like snow...

(I reckon the gritter was just to keep the neighbours quiet...it didn't seem to have laid much grit :) )

It took me an hour to drive the ten minute journey to work from horley, where I had to turn around ten feet short, dig myself out and then drive home. I then tried to park in the space outside my house and had to dig myself out again. We have 8" and it's still falling. Not going to stop here until about 1800 today possibly not until midnight.

I didn't bother with the car this morning (I couldn't really tell which pile of snow it was under anyway), and instead cycled the 11 miles to work. Not sure it was the wisest decision I've ever made, but it was fun!

And I have still never seen a gritter or even salt/grit on the roads in the last 4 weeks. Do WSCC even own any?!

@Chadders - I was planning to, and brought my laptop home. Got a stinking cough/cold as well. The snow has ripped a branch off a tree in the garden :-(

@Mark - The only time I see gritters, is on the motorway (Where they very kindly remove a layer of paint from my car:-()

I did have fun watching people trying to drive along the road at 6:00am this morning - in a Schadenfreude kind of way

Slightly Splattered
Spent a couple of hours working from home this morning, then went outside and spent about an hour digging out the car from the driveway. Thought I'd give it a go and got to Gatwick about 11am.
Minor roads around Furnace Green very deep, and lots of abandond cars around, the hill up to the Hawth Roundabout was interesting, but after that the roads got better. Now sitting here wondering when to leave....

Not at work today as it is the last day of my hols, ( I have been told that yes, I do have a contract for 2010, so am gainfully employed for another year)

I wouldn't have been willing to go out driving this morning as getting to the M23 would have been "interesting" but I did manage an hour or two on the bike:

Good fun but im still recovering from my new years cold and feel pretty wrecked at the moment. The snow higher up on the Downs is pretty deep and makes for really slow progress: I detoured across a field as clear snow over flat ground was far easier to ride on than a bridleway with numerous hidden ruts, mud, pools etc. In the local forests the trails are so slooooooow but still, the scenery is fantastic :)

Oh well, back to work tomorrow...perhaps: I'm now just wondering what all the slush on the roads will be like after the temperatures plunge tonight...

Well, this morning I wondered what all the fuss was about and presumed they'd got the forecast wrong again. No snow anywhere round where I live. However, got to the bypass into Eastbourne and it was 2 lane snarl up and a 20 min drive took 1.5hrs!!!

WHY DO PEOPLE DRIVE SO BL**DY SLOW IN THE SNOW? The roads where getting worse because the snow was settling AROUND them, I literally was screaming at them in the car...I know, that's road rage, but c'mon!

Anyway, once at work realised we were really lucky being in the lea of the Downs and everywhere else had a thick covering, stories of people taking 3hrs from Brighton were being banded about, and they won't be getting home tonight either.

Stayed at work til lunchtime and then took some work home with me as it was getting worse, but still passable. Dodgiest bit was getting out of our ungritted car park at work, made me smile though as I slipped about, reminded me of being on the bike in the mud :P

Loving Guy's photos, very picture-scew....
