Well, just got home from work and now sitting pondering hauling myself over to darkest East Sussex... :unsure:

Will sit around gibbering from the journey down the M25/M23...rain, snow, sleet and loony drivers for few minutes.

Ollie, Ming etc, hows the weather looking over there?

Well, I must admit I was in two minds about coming along to this one but after I saw the cake Janine had made I felt it would be a shame not to share it :D

Great ride guys.

The hellhound kept running right to the end (and wouldnt stay still for his photo either):

That flippin dog outran me down the first descent! :blink: Chewie is like a Duracell toy in dog-form, he just keeps going on and on and on and...

And we did have some seasonal weather too:

...sleet, ice, rain, mud, cold, frozen cowpats, lethal slidey clay and chalk etc. :wacko:

Big thanks to Rick for leading and Ollie for the use of the Camper van for shelter afterwards. Even Jim seemed to enjoy popping his Singlespeed cherry!

Happy Christmas.

I wonder what the Tilgate ride was like in comparison? C'mon guys, let us know if you got caught in a (very small) snowdrift just outside Crawley B)

Brilliant ride guys!

Ride = spot on

coffee = spot on

cake = spot on

hellhound = brilliant!

singlespeed = loved it, so much i'm gonna convert my old kona firemountain into one :)

Cheers Rick for leading and lending me your wheels. Was a good trip all round, including the insane shi*t yer pants drive up the Olympic Norwegian ski-jump slope up to the carpark!!!!!

Ming, your dog rocks, he looked like he loved it!
Guy, the cake was wonderful, washed down with some perfect coffee! Poor mark having to cycle off into the night! happy you made it back. All my gear's still in the bag in the hallway. A case if "deal with it later" :)

Sorry, i cannot make the 27th one as i'm going away on the 24th! But see ya'll on saturday for some grub!:lol:

Happy Christmas!

Top dog everyone in both respects. Thank you for the ride. It was just right apart from the weather, but that kinda added to it.

Cake! That is all.

See you soon and Happy Holidays :)

Looks like you had as much fun as us - well more fun, because we didn't have a dog (or Cake or Coffee)

Myself, Chadders, Blades and TinTin were the only brave souls to venture out into Tilgate and, after a short discussion, decided on a route that would involve going down fairly firm ground (To avoid high speed 'front wheel slide' moments).

Our usual route to cross the M23 was surprisingly solid (Apart from the 'Booby trap frozen crust' section, just before the motorway) and we were soon slogging up the long climb into the forest behind Balcombe. Blades had a few issues with his lights - helmet light started to run low, then his handebar mount started to work loose (To the point where it lit up his front wheel nicely).

At the top of the climb, we ploughed along the large tyre tracks that were very kindly left by the forestry people then regrouped for the fireroad descent to the Worth Way. After a bit of light fettling, on the part of Blades, we traversed a short section of single track, hopped onto the Worth Way and wound our way back to Tilgate - dropping TinTin back at his house on the way.

I also did the Muddy@rse strip, before showering then tucking in to a nice supper.

It was definitely one of those nights where it would have been so easy to just lock the door and stay inside but, having made the effort to haul you sorry @rse onto your bike, was rather enjoyable. About one and a half hours of effort for a fairly decent reward (Feeling good about not being a couch potato)

Thanks for the company guys - and for giving me the incentive to get out (For the first time in several weeks)

Bring on the next one.

Well done to all the brave souls who ventured out last night. Great to hear you all had good rides and that the coffee warmed you up at the end. Big thanks to Guy for, what looked like, a yummy cake. Noted though none was brought home for me to try :rolleyes: don't blame you though and I suppose I didn't earn it either :lol:

My only technical feature of worry last night was driving Rick's long wheel based van down the bo peep road which was covered in ice, steep with a hairy hairpin corner at the bottom. As it was only the 2nd time I'd ever driven it I was a bit worried....managed it ok though and then proceeded to hold up all the traffic all the way down the A27 as I was only happy going to faster than 50mph. That road is narrow and dark when you're in a gurt big van !!!!

Merry Xmas everyone Lisa x

Thanks folks for turnin out!
As lisa may have said i threw a minor (well ok reasonably big ) tantrum when all day, cold but loveley dry allbeit cold weather turned into horrid sleety nastyness literally as i got my bike ready . Shouts of Well thats ****ing typical that is and why now! were repeatedly said but as so often happens the ride turned out to be ok and we all got our trail fix complete with xmas topping and wicked cake, Thanks Janine and Guy, Hope it was worth the stress/rush for people to get there. I thought so

cheers everyone and merry christmas :)
