Ok Guys, Just to confirm the plans for Sunday 27th december: Start point is the Whiteways Lodge carpark above Arundel. Meeting from 10am to start at 10:30am. For those that dont know, it is .here The ride route really depends on the weather and ground conditions: it does tend to drain ok and the forest singletrack doesnt get too claggy but mud tyres (NO, WE ARE NOT GOING THERE OK?) and a mudguard will probably (read: definately) be useful. If we do the "classic" route then it is going to be about 15-17miles and about 3hrs long, taking in the fast trails in Rewell wood, heading out towards Slindon into Northwood, up to Glatting Beacon then a downhill return for a play on the singletrack in Houghton forest and the bombhole, whilst perhaps not posing the challenge it used to have (the front lip is quite eroded now) will be available for those that want to ride it. The roots and logs in Rewell wood and Houghton can be a bit slippery at this time of year. If we go into Rewell wood there will be two road crossings that could be busy-ish. Of course if everyone just feels like mucking about we can just take the SDW up to Glatting Beacon, admire the view then do singletrack loops in Houghton forest for a few hours instead Just be aware that this depends on the numbers of walkers about and finding some of the hidden trails can end up with the ride leader being slightly "directionally challenged" however getting truly lost is not such a great problem as you're never that far from the car-park.Normal rules apply: you will need a bike helmet! you are riding at your own risk but no-one gets left behind. Any volunteers who want to act as sweepers please let me know. Singlespeeds should be ok for this if you are that way inclined, just be aware if we do the classic route there is one long climb and a couple of short-ish steep ones. Oh, and Janine has done a cake too, other cakeand coffee donations welcome Hope to see you there |

Assuming my natural position, at the back of the pack, I'll gladly sweep. Will bring the walkie-talkies. |

Still not sure which bike to bring. If it's going to be really really muddy I might stick to the SS. But bombhole screams bring the Pitch. Decisions decisions. |

The roads up to Whiteways should be ok as its on a main A road and therefore will have been gritted. The only roads round here that are still a little bit slushy/icy are those that see little or no traffic (as we found this morning on the lane up to Springhead Hill above Storrington...) Shouldnt be a problem in a couple of days time as the temperatures are going to be a bit higher. Most of the snow has gone by now
