It seems the game is going to be released this year, and it looks like that it is 75% completed already.

Sure it's really nice...
and amazing...
How can Square Enix work on 6 or 7 games at the same time...
Impressive.
I hope to get my hands on this game.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII discovers a release date
Yep, everybody's prequel is on its way to an actual release. First up to bat: Japan later this year.

Crisis Core, at last check, was sitting pretty at 75% completion, with Nomura enthusiastic about the game releasing before the end of the year. Turns out he's delivering for once, because Square has officially announced that the PSP prequel will be releasing on August 2, 2007 in Japan.

(Note the symbolism here? 2007, Final Fantasy 7; ten years after the original's release; seven years before the original game.)

Anyway there is still no word on an official US release, but we can expect it before the end of the year. Also look foward to a list of English voice actors around the time of the Japanese release.

At a private screening in the "Closed Mega Theater" at the Square Enix Party 2007, the Japanese RPG developer closed out the newest Crisis Core trailer with the number "9 13 2007" and since there's no thirteenth month, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII will make its Japanese premier on September 13th, 2007, and not the rumored August 2nd, 2007.

Got it?

Release date: September 13th, 2007

Yeah, that's it. Don't invite me to go anywhere, don't tell me there is something to do on September 13th because Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII is here! :P

Some new Scans and more Details

A huge scan update with new information on the upcoming PlayStation Portable (PSP) title Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII-, some of it stemming from the Square Enix Party 2007 last month, some of it having been revealed afterwards. The biggest pieces of information concern the appearances of two "new" characters, both of which have already had appearances in the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII.

The first of these characters is everyone's favourite materia hunter, Yuffie Kisaragi, this time as a cute little nine year old (she has previously appeared as a ten year old in the mobile phone title Before Crisis -Final Fantasy VII-), and she meets Zack during his mission at Wutai. Details on the game's 'Mission System' have revealed that Yuffie will actually be playable on what are being assumed to be 'Treasure Hunts'. Yuffie's design appears similar to that of the one used in Before Crisis (much like Aerith's similarities between the two games), but (based on these relatively bad shots we currently have), Yuffie's outfit in Crisis Core is a lot darker than the green worn in Before Crisis.

The second character being added to the roster of characters, one I was supposed to have written about in my last post but I kinda forgot, is a member of the Turks. Originating from Before Crisis (where she was simply known as the female shuriken wielding Turk), this time around the Turk is being given a lot more presence. The ginger Turk, now named Shisune (this is the name we're going from for now, an official romanisation doesn't exist, which has lead to all sorts of different adaptations), wields a red shuriken named Rekka (which means fire) and, from Before Crisis, we already know that she is the youngest person to ever join the ranks of the Turks, and depiste this has a tendency to mother the other members. It seems that in Crisis Core, in her role as a Turk member, she will be supporting Zack at certain points of the story.

As well as these two characters, we get a good look in on Genesis' army, the Genesis Clones/Copies, who all where the same uniform, a darker modified version of the clothes worn by Genesis himself. Surprising is the fight shown between Genesis (it would definately appear to be Genesis due to his clothes) and, of which a better look is available in the shots taken from the Chinese edition of Famitsu (the last four magazine scans on this post), which appear to show Genesis fighting with a gun (and the sword held in his other hand doesn't appear to be the sword we've seen him with thus far). What this is all about, well I'm not sure, but hopefully we'll find out (its funny, I wanted Genesis to wield some form of long-range weapon, and suddenly he has a gun <3).

Details seem to show that the game is played entirely via the Mission System (I still hope that the Missions are like...a side-part of the game, because I don't want another Mission RPG). It would appear that there are two types of Mission, the story progressing missions, and those Missions which form more of a "side-quest" side to things (of which we already know that Yuffie is a playable character during some of these side-missions). Speaking of the Mission system, it seems that Missions are "booked" on what would appear to be a computer screen, I've taken the liberty to take a screenshot of it for a particular purpose that will become apparent in a second.

Mission Menu of Crisis Core

Does this look familiar to anyone? It seems that Square Enix, in homage to their earlier Final Fantasy titles (and most definately in homage of Final Fantasy VII), have decided to design the menu system for this in direct taking from that of Final Fantasy VII, for those who haven't played the original, or who don't remember, allow me the liberty of showing you.

I'm sure I don't have to point out the similarities for you. I'll just leave it to you to enjoy all the scans, including one of a nice CG artwork of Zack outside Midgar, an imaged location you may remember from Advent Children (I like the use of that location for the artwork, I think its very poignant). There's a huge lot of scans taken from Shonen Jump, V-Jump and Famitsu, all published in Japan and China (the Famitsu China issue).

Strangely, Play Asia still don't have a pre-order service available for this game, so I can't offer you the option to do so despite the fact that the game will be released in Japan on September 13th of this month.

In other news, Final Fantasy: Anniversary Edition (United States) and Final Fantasy II: Anniversary Edition (Japan) have both been released in their respective countries this week, and Final Fantasy VI Advance (Europe) is apparently being released this coming friday.

FF 10th Anniversary PSP Bundle

Final Fantasy VII: 10th Anniversary Limited PSP Bundle
After the lacklustre E3 showings, Square is bringing out the goods - in this case, a new PSP bundle, including Crisis Core!

For those who remember, Square's upcoming Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 will be releasing on September 13 in its homeland, and to celebrate its release, and to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the original Final Fantasy 7, Square-Enix have unveiled a '10th Anniversary Limited PSP Bundle'.

The pack is great for those Final Fantasy fans who have yet to invest in the console yet, but are now considering the purchase, fuelled by this new title - for the price of 25890 Yen ($212 USD), the pack includes a new PSP 'Slim' with Crisis Core imprints covering it, a copy of the new game and a keychain featuring the title's protagonist, Zack. The bundle will be releasing the same day as the stand-alone game, and there will only be 77,777 available (Nice coincidence).

n related news, a possible box art has surfaced online for the game. This probably isn't the final image, but it's still a good example of what the final art may resemble. We'll update you if the real one turns up, or this actually turns out to be official.

Opening FMV

Tony @ FFInsight

Final Fantasy Insight is quite proud to present you with the opening full motion video (FMV) sequence of sectionff7cc. The video itself is incredibly self-explanatory (and hugely a ripoff of the opening FMV of Final Fantasy VII, and especially of the ending moment of the "remade" opening as part of the PlayStation 3 Technical Demo), and is accompanied to Takeharu Ishimoto's arrangement of Opening ~ Bombing Mission from Final Fantasy VII, leading into the Main Theme of Crisis Core. We also have the video available on Final Fantasy Insight's FileFront account, in a much better quality (and size).

Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- Opening FMV: [dohtml]<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/FgwZsbIflyk"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/FgwZsbIflyk" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>[/dohtml]
Download (avi, 680x480, 54.29 MB)

We also have sleight of 9 "scans" (they're actually digital pictures) taken of a currently unknown magazine (though we suspect it is Famitsu) which gives the game a very respectable total of 35/40 (the four reviewers gave the game 9/10, 9/10, 8/10, and 9/10). The magazine also shows a bunch of things we're already pretty much aware of, but shows a new part of the Digital Mind Wave (DMW) involving a "Chocobo Mode" portrayed by Cait Sith (I will have no clue what that is about, as it appears that Zack and Cait Sith switch out, with the mechanical kitty becoming playable), as well as an artwork of the new golden Bahamut Retsu. I'd like to thank Crisis Core.net for making bigger, actually scanned versions, of some of these scans available.

Interviews in the scans reveal that once again, there is currently no plan to remake Final Fantasy VII, as the team who'd take care of it (led by Yoshinori Kitase and Tetsuya Nomura) currently has its hands full with Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII, as well as a currently unrevealed project (due to be revealed at the Tokyo Game Show in 2 weeks), and of course Nomura's next Kingdom Hearts project, due to be revealed at the same event.

On a technical side, Crisis Core is confirmed to be a very thorough game, with (in addition to the main storyline) a massive optional 300 missions designed to bring more life to the game, which all in all practically fills the alotted 1.8gigs of space available on a single UMD disc, bad news for those naughty pirates out there who like to download games due to the PSP's memory sticks' size constraints.

Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- is due for release in Japan on September 13th, no news as to world-wide releases yet.

Through a press-release to the media, Square Enix Europe have now confirmed that Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- is to be released in European territories next month, on June 20th. Nothing has apparently been modified since the one released in North America in March (which added a Hard Mode), other than the inclusion of the additional four languages required for Europe (though it seems each country will only have the language specific to that country, we'll confirm that upon release).

It seems that Square Enix are also allowing various countries to release their own individual "Limited Edition" packages for Crisis Core, with the United Kingdom having been confirmed to be shipping a version of the game with a hard-backed artbook, and France having a small-run bundle of the game and an Ice Silver PSP Slim & Lite (minus the 10th Anniversary of Final Fantasy VII designs present on the Japanese version).

Here are some of the new screenshots!
