Greatak's Artsy Stuff; While I look around at the RPs

Greatak

Well, until I find an RP I want to join, enjoy my pretty pictures.

First off is the beaver... Its got a gun and its shooting don't ask questions like why.
Posted Image

Next is a knight, pretty standard.
Posted Image

And to continued that knight theme... Some of the detail gets lost in the resize, but I think you'll get it...
Posted Image

And now for something completely different. Some concept art, and yes, that is the Austrailian flag he's holding.
Posted Image

And a radiated dingo, same source as the soldier. Thought I'd try some shadow here, its pretty iffy...
Posted Image

And the final one for now is a sampling of my ability at buildings. The one thing I think I'm good at. You can't see the pretty stained glass desgins though on accounts of the resize...
Posted Image

So that's all for now, I know it's lined paper and too bad, if you don't like it don't look at my drawings. Also I never ink things so if its hard to see, sorry.

Silver Scale

Very nice. Even though it is resized, I can still get most of the detail. Very realist style.

I just noticed after a second look that the futuristic soldier dude has a Chainsaw gun O_o;;

w00t4GoW! =DDD

Anyways, looks cool. Might be a sight for sore eyes for some people given that the rest of us mostly draw anime XD

That's the only way I can pull off a face so I cover them with helmets! And it's not a chainsaw, it's a hedgetrimmer design, less internal space taken, room for more bullets.

Hedgetrimmers can do the same job, just better.

I envy your abilities at drawing buildings. I suck at that, but then again I don't draw them a lot, so I really don't know how good I am at them. Even though you mentioned that you don't care that you used lined paper, I'm still going to kick your for it.

*Kicks* bad! bad bad bad bad bad! Lined paper is EVIL! It will devour your soul! At least erase the lines on the computer if you can't get a sketchbook or computer paper! How sad I can't send you some.

Also on your people, their arms all seem to be rather long. The fingertips of hands should hit about the middle of the thigh, not the knees. Also on the future guy his arm with the flag is longer than the other one.

Other than that, they look good! I'd like to see some things like organic landscapes from you, and some people without helmets and with normal clothes on.

Okay, there are two people, and one of the arms is messed up. But anywho, I can't really draw people so its amazing that those turn out so nice. The arm issues are due to my developmental style, I draw in short spans, just adding on little details one at a time, I never really look at it as a whole until it's finished, that leads to inconsistancies on "congruent" parts. And the flag looked so nice I couldn't bring myself to change it.

But my problem with normal clothes and people without helmets... Well, for some reason, I have no idea why, but people have junk like noses, eyes and mouths on their face, making them impossible to look right. And fabric has to obey the laws of physics, so bothersome, so those are incapable of being replicated as well. I've tried and its not pretty... Ends up looking like anime *shudders* But organic landscapes aren't too much trouble, I've tried a few, though its more landscaping around a castle. and such, not just a forest.

I'm just too lazy to carry more than the notebook I have to carry for the rest of my work. Also as you said you don't draw too many buildings, you wouldn't really know how rediculously helpful lined paper is to getting structural proportions correct.

But since you seem to really care, here's a mercenary guy I doodled once... It's terrible but the helmet exposes the face and his pants aren't armor.

Lined paper help? RULER. And I have drawn them before, but I don't do it often, since I usually forget about my ruler. And laziness is no excuse.

Actually, there's three people. I'm counting the one at the cave entrance. And might I suggest using shapes before adding the details, to get everything even and congruent?

Also, what type of eraser do you use, and how hard do you press? I can see a lot of the erased lines. If your bad at clothes and faces, practice them. I suck and hands and feet, so I practice just drawing them multiple times.

And what wrong with anime? >.>

I do not ramble for hours, Nauzzeh. D: One hour tops. >.>

Okay, this is what I think about anime. It's an excuse for not being able to draw faces. You draw the rest of the body all nice and realistic, then throw in eyes way too big for the face and throw away all the detail that should be there to stay continuous with the rest of the picture.

Also, I just draw here and there, I don't have a ruler to just whip out on the fly. Rulers also add complication to the process, I commonly don't even have a table before me I draw in between things, using the back of the notebook and my other hand to support it.

On to the next thing, erasers. I get pencils and amazingly, most have erasers on the end of them. I make lines and if I don't like them, flip around the pencil and erase. I push as hard as I need to until the line is at least known to be gone to be to move on.

And I forgot about the cave, that was an attempt to draw a dragon, but the dragon came out a little too small so I threw the knight in for a humor element.

And, you saw the crappy attempt at a real person I trust?

It doesn't look that bad. And if you don't want anime eyes, why are you drawing them in an anime style?

That's not what I meant about erasers. -_-

I'd like you to show me a picture with a traditional anime face and a correctly realistic body, as your making it seem that you feel that's what anime is. Because I can point out a lot of differences between anime and realism. And what's so detailed about average human faces that's not on anime faces?

I know, I never said I didn't use the anime excuse. I just try not to by no drawing faces. When it can't be helped I try to shrink the eyes into a semi-realistic size, but it's still anime.

And then what did you mean by erasers, I thought you asked what kind I used. Its just whatever comes on the end of the pencil.

And there's details in faces around the eyes and nose that are completely ignored by anime let alone the mouth. All the lips and such are reduced to a line.

Well, your lips are a line in the picture. And what's around the eyes that's ignored? the eyes are the focus in anime, since their the window to the soul and all. That's why their so big, out of symbolism.

Also, some of the stuff you beef about in anime can be seen in a lot of carttons. Do you jsut not like a lot of things in cartoons? because that's what anime is, it's a cartoon style. which is partially why I wonder why you are comparing it to realism.

I'm fine with professionaly done anime, that the entire thing is done in the style. But most people it seems to me try to draw in realism, then can't do a face and so just throw an anime face on it. As can be seen with my attempt at exposing a face.

I can't say I see a lot of that. Most anime I see 9and I look at a lot) is easily distinguished, or one of the classic anime styles a lot of people use rather than develop one on their own. Do you see this happen in real life or internet images?

Also, do you ever shade or color images? and do you do any computer art, or mostly traditonal?
Offline Profile Quote Post Goto Top

Umm... The knight, the soldier. Those are shaded. But shading comes as the last step. Coloring comes if I already hate the picture, theres no sense in ruining a nice picture, so I only color bad ones. And as far as computer art, I do manips, no original stuff until I get my tablet.

But of course I mean online, where else would I see ameteurs art in real life? I'm of course not going to go looking for it.

You can't be the only artist at whatever school you go to. Surely there are others that aren't art gods or something.

What tablet do you intend to get? Also, what media do you use when coloring your images?

I don't know which tablet yet, but if I'm gonna spend the money to get one, I'll go the extra mile and get a really nice one. Medium for coloring, colored pencils, though any medium would work since it only degrades the image.

But not too many people artists where I spend my days, just buildings and back when there might've been people artists, why would I see their work?
