If you fill something with COLOR, Swift, it's called COLORING. Photoshop is merely the tool you used to color said image, and painting is merely a style used to do said coloring. LAWLZBESTESTAVELYNPICTUREEVAR. |

I referring to the assumption that "coloring" = crayons/pencils and Painting = Paintbrush and paint seeing as he said it "looked like it was painted." I COLORED it in Photoshop(GIMP) >.> |

![]() I think that even I can just see my characters a bit better when they're in color o.O The shading isn't as nice as I'd like it, but apparently GIMP can't smudge some of the colors together, so I just did the best I could. |

LOLPRUPLEHAIRHOWUNMANLY. Seriously though, if not done right, unnatural hair colors look terribly cheap and off. this is one of those cases. The rest of him has tan, red, and black. But then you suddenly jump to purple eyes and hair, and it jsut isn't working with the more earthy and natural colors of his clothes. I'd try a brown/brown-red color for his hair, and maybe something nearing a mixture of brown and hazel for his eyes. Also in terms of matching, I'd personally make the red on the shirt the same as the cape. It kind of sticks out like a target how it is. |

I'm tired of using brown hair. I have like, 6 characters with brown hair >.> I knew it didn't match from the start. But I didn't want to go to either using more green, copy Ike's blue, or back to brown. GIMP was being annoying, so I couldn't flesh out the color like I wanted to though. God I need photoshop ._. Making the shirt match the cape made it blend in too much with it. I wanted to use a different color of red. Besides, he's carrying a big, orange, glowing sword anyways >.> |

There are other colors, NATURAL colors, brown would have just went the best. And it can look very different if you give a mix of red into it. But the purple hair just looks bad on the colors your chose for the outfit, as well as seem to clash with his character. And if you don't want to make them the same red, then you could always lower the saturation on the shirt, so it isn't as bright. And I don't really understand the purpose of the bright orange sword. >.> I don't know of many metal that are orange and can actually be used for combat. |

The purple wasn't supposed to be so vibrant as it is. Later I'll see if I can't add the shading to it like I wanted to (I had that color just for a base) but at this point GIMP was just annoying me so I just left it as it was. But I know about the colors, I know it seems out-of-place, but since when have I been one to completely conform to some set of rules or common practice when it comes to art or creativity? I wanted to do something different, so I figured: "Hey, bad-ass swordsman with some distinguishing feature... what about indigo-colored hair?" I mean, I respect that you're helping me out and all, and, jeeze, where would I be if you haven't been helping me all along? But usually when it comes to roleplaying characters and art, I like to branch out from the usual stuff every once in a while and play around with funny things like that. It's the same reason, as you pointed out before, Rynk is a bit short for his age perhaps, that he and Avelyn aren't half-elves in the first place, that Avelyn can even pick up her sword let-along swing it and carry it on her back easily, and all the stuff I've done like that. Sure color-agreement is important, but it's not like my characters are going to be printed on the next super model's swim-suit. Must I be meat-grinded for taking a step off the beaten path and trying new things? D: But uh, yeah, the shirt, I tried so hard to make the damn thing a little darker, but I swear to god GIMP hates red and black. Smudge tool didn't work when I tried adding shadows and then smoothing them in, Dodge/burn barely changed it, and the fill button has a grudge against me or something. I gave up on it, thinking it wasn't entirely too bad anyways. And the orange sword? Trust me, your guess is as good as mine as to what it's made out of, I just said it was orange in his bio, and then colored it >.> Then again, since when was the last time you've seen someone cast magic or anything too? It's a magic sword. So it's magically orange, I guess? |

But PURPLE HAIR. Branching out is good, but it's also good to make sure it doesn't look too crazy or cheaply slapped on. Plus you have to consider the personality. Would you see Ameila running around in rainbows? >.> Now, if he were a more flamboyant (not gay) character, purple hair would work. But he's obviously a more down to earth type guy. The reason why it's usual to you is because you use a lot of the same stuff. Look at some of your characters backgrounds and personalities, they fit into a sort of 'hero' niche. I've never seen some mental psychopath from you, or a pervert, or a super girly girl, or a real anti villain. If your characters were more diverse then the earthy colors wouldn't feel 'usual' to you. Not saying you need to change your characters or roleplay people you don't want to, but that's the reason it feels to 'usual' to you. |

I've gone back to GIMP, and tried darkening it some. I've still yet to add some shading to it (and I want to fix up some other spots too) but I think the dark shade of purple (it looks more of a grape or plum atm) melds with the tone a bit more than the brighter indigo-color. I might make it darker if it comes down to that so that it's a purple version of Navy-blue (there a specific name for that color?) so that it kind of matches up with his darker-colored leg and foot-wear. The point of the hair was just to have him stick out from the usual swordsman, and it was just the crazy idea I had at the time o.O; And I don't want to change it completely, because I've already started to roll with it. :\ With all the character ideas I've been randomly coming up with, I'll probably have a chance to try a different personalities that might fit into different niches. I actually thought about making an evil character in TSK, but due to "circumstances", I wasn't able to provide much more into it. One thing though, I'll never make a character along the lines of 'complete pervert.' I can't stand them as it is x_x; That, and I don't want to end up with my own Strange Old Man. DDDD: Myst, whom I'm using in TSK atm, is a bit more delicate that my usual female characters, if that amounts to anything. What I should do is make a character that's practically just comic relief xP (Jansen from Lost Odyssey would be a perfect example. He's FTW.) Maybe I should make it a corny anti-villain. Or maybe even anti-hero to combine three of them together? o.O We'll see. |

No, it won't. To *me* (keep in mind that I'm horrible at drawing, and thus, not very picky), the only thing thatr seems wrong is his hair. Even the sword, in a strange way, makes sense, moslt ycause of the magic thing you mentioned. That, and it's in TSK, so maybe there's some metal there that doesn't exist on earth. |

Yeah, well... before Athuria gets here I'll just point out the hair still doesn't go to well with the rest of his clothing and his left arm looks like it's broken to me. Probably because of that wierd black thing you put there. (You might not want to listen to me because I can't draw a person to save my life.) |

You know, even if someone really did have purple hair, would it really influence the way they dressed? I mean, like, would someone who had really light, blond hair swear that they'd never wear light blue because that's a clashing between hot and cold colors? >.> And I don't see how his arm is broken. The "black thing" is a scar. |

Swift, I swear we're putting you through a lesson on girls along with CC. >.> THEN maybe you can learn how to match. (Also, light blonde doesn't clash with light blue, as that color blonde is very similar to yellow, which goes very well with light blue. They're a common combination in nurseries, I've noticed.) The way you styles his hair also bothers me, it doesn't look like hair. That's actually a bit of a problem in some of your other drawings, Rynk seems to have the best looking hair in terms of actually looking like hair. Why are there little which dots on his cape? Are they meant to be holes? Also, it that black strap meant to hold up his sword? Because that won't work. You're going to need something similar to Avelyn's belt around his chest to hold that thing up due to weight. And looking at it, his right arm is shorter than his left. And look, EVERYONE has a problem with the purple hair. >.> |
