Closer and closer the towers approached and with each beat of his powerful wings revealed more details. There were eight towers in total Caudrial could view and one appearing all, but destroyed. He was tiring quickly due to the recent trauma. His wounds both physical and mental had taken their toll on his body. To add to his discomfort the towers grew greater in a white blinding light stinging his eyes the closer he approached. To the normal inhabitants it may have seemed like the most normal of things, but for a creature who's only light came from small candles and several small fires within a small encampment. It was as if the sun itself rose in all its glory to blind him before his journey could ever begin. As the towers inched closer, Caudrial could since the blue tint fading into his eyes as the lights started to dim, making them much less daunting. He soon spotted a tower larger than the rest and its lights were greater than the others. He was not sure of where to start, but this tower seemed inviting enough so directed his slender form in the direction of the tower, slowly increasing his altitude. Cautiously he circled above the tower looking for details, including safety of approaching the structure, and how to access it. It took only several moments for him to spot a viewing balcony with several individuals looking out at the vastness of the world. Carefully Caudrial glided to the structure gracefully landing just within the balcony. His entrance caught the attention of those on the tower and he tensed as he felt their eyes upon him. He was soon able to let a breath of relief escape his lips as those around him went back to their own activities, giving not a second glance to the unexpected entrance. His body stood still but his eyes wandered nervously to beings his eyes had never before seen or his mind ever imagined. He had heard stories of the elders meeting with others and listening to their stories, but never believed he, himself would be. After many moments of thought and talking himself into moving on he made the first step forward on the stone floor. Caudrial decided he should do some exploring and learn the area before he went around speaking outwardly of his missing tribe. Edited by Bezooka86, Jan 15 2009, 03:38 AM.

"No, of course not, professor Haaligen. I actually meant..." Calimon's voice dropped as the winged figure landed on the balcony. For a few moments, the wizards and schoolars in the proximity had all the same reaction, then quickly went on with their business, as if nothing remarkable had taken place. The small, childlike man knew otherwise, and so asked his interlocutor, a plump graying woman in green robes, to meet again later on. He then approached the chimera slowly, trying to determine just what was it doing in there. "Greetings, stranger." He spoke in a low voice, some feet away from the new arrival. "To the contrary of what my coleages may think, I can see you are obviously not a wizard from the Towers. Is there anything I can do for you?" Polite as he was being, there was a distinct coldness in the wizard's voice, a detachment that many people found a little disturbing. He was, of course, not interested in actually helping the chimera, but rather to see if he should alert the guards about the intruder. One had to be very bold, or very ignorant of the place, to enter the Towers without proper authorization. ((ooc: Hey, Bezooka86! Nice to meet you. Btw, the 8th tower is for the moment just a pile of rubble...)) |

Only a few steps did his feet take before he was stopped, not being familiar to the creatures dialect did not hint at the coldness in his voice. Rather a wave of comfort washed over him as the thought that this journey would be easier than he had originally thought. Caudrial studied the individual in front of him, before quickly lowering his head in respect. Caudrial felt the strength of this individuals magical properties and knew that within his tribe only leaders possessed such magical power. Despite the individuals appearance, Caudrial knew he was not as he seemed. His voice flowed elegantly as he addressed the individual in front of him, it was enchanting and soft yet showing every sign of respect. Caudrial's words flowed as if he was speaking in song. This was of course the natural way to respectably speak within his tribe, so came as natural as each beat of the heart does or each blink of the eye. "In the name of Rapere, I apologize for my ill-mannered landing upon such an impressive structure. My name is Caudrial, I mean no harm for I seek only answers, which upon answering, will dismiss myself from this mighty tower. If that is the wish of the wise chieftain before me. I traveled from my village, not so far from these towers, seeking my lost tribe. I ask if you know perchance what has become of them, as they are all I have in this world. This is the reason I so bravely and unwisely intruded myself upon this tower. The world is harsh, this much I have come to learn in my short years of life, yet I survive, it is my duty to do what I can for my family. I pray you feel the grief within my spirit as it has been tormented for this first time by this unforgiving reality." Caudrial again lowered his eyes from the individual in front of him, gracefully announcing that he had nothing left to say. He hoped that it was not a fault to come here, but he was indeed alone, and had not one answer as to the past events. Despite his uneasiness due to the uncertainty within his mind, Caudrial could not help but feel excited as it was a dream of his to learn more in the ways of magic. Sadly due to his low magical presence at birth was not selected as one of the few children to be a possible future chieftain. Just maybe he could find a place among these towers to learn more and become slightly more intelligent about the enigma of magic. Yet such a selfish notion would have to wait as his family and tribe were first on his mind, and could not continue with life until the fate of those he loved was discovered. ((ooc: It is a pleasure to meet you. Thank you for explaining about the 8th tower, I am very much appreciative.)) |

The tiny wizard listened with amazement at the chimera's words. He speaks so differently! he thought, Well, no doubt he must be telling the truth or else he must be a great liar to fake that... "Caudrial, huh? Well, I supose there is no harm done yet. I am called Calimon, from the De Verais family, and I am a wizard, not a chieftain. In fact, most people in the towers are wizards and sorcerers too." He paused briefly and took a good look of the winged man in front. "But pray tell me more about this tribe of yours, for even though I do not know of it I can still try to find out about its whereabouts; after all, this is the Island's capital, and a great center of knowledge. Oh, and about your intrusion here, you better come down with me and talk to one of the guards of this tower; I am pretty sure they will have no objection as to your presence if an authorized person stays with you the whole time you are here." Calimon was now intriged. He wasn't the type of person to kindly offer assistance to the needy or clueless, but if he could gain some new knowledge, that alone might be worth his troubles. The wizard was now smiling softly. Edited by Calimon, Jan 15 2009, 06:05 AM.

Even though the wizard before him knew nothing of the whereabouts of his tribe, Caudrial let a grin of comfort show on his slender face. Perhaps this new acquaintance would offer him what his heart so knowingly desired. Still he felt for his family and was extremely gracious as he followed Calimon of the De Verais family. "Again my apologies, for within my tribe those with such power over magic are prospects for future chieftains. We dwell several miles from these towers, living on and within the frozen cliffs. I assure you we are a simple tribe of no great consequence, as we all live off the land and what it has to offer. I was away for a night and returned home to ruin and broken dreams of what our tribe was before my feet departed the ground that evening. There was not a sign only the fallen feathers of those I love. As complete as I believe my mind to be, my tribe did not have any outer activity of the world, yet there were rumors of the chieftain leaving under the cover of shadows and shades. I now fear that it just may have been true... We worship the deity of Rapere, she watches over all chimeras who are mixed with the spirit...a bird of prey." Caudrial clasped at his necklace, effortlessly unlatching it from his neck and cradling it within his slender hands before presenting it to Calimon. "This is my very own Strigidae, the stone is made of our most precious material, Krystopal. Within it lies a piece of my amber birth shell to keep the blessing of Rapere with me throughout my life. This is how we measure an individuals magical wisdom as the more wisdom they have the greater the violet mist fills within the Krystopal. As your eyes have already told you, my own is not of great power, so my career was birthed within the group of hunters. I would be graciously delighted to enlighten you further upon the culture of our tribe if you would be interested? I would also be willing to give you one of our rare Krystopals. It is the least I can do in return for your kindness." Caudrial continued to walk with Calimon, his eyes wandering at the many things they have never before witnessed and to the beings he never knew could exist. His leg gave off a slight limp as he tried to hide his discomfort, for he could not bother such and important individual further with minor concerns. Despite his need for finding his family, Caudrial could not resist, so let his heart ask for him. "My dear Calimon of the De Verais family, it would be a vilifying lie if I was not to say that I am intrigued greatly on the subject of this riddle known as magic. I would wish to know more for it constantly tortures my mind as to the possibilities it holds. Would there be a way, of course if it is proper for me to ask, to know more. My family and tribe I assure you are first on my mind, but my heart would never forgive me if I did not ask if there was a way I could learn more." Caudrial's face was one of hope as his body tightened as it anticipated the possible dream of learning about magic. He of course understood that it would be highly rare for him to be accepted for such an honor, but the question was asked, and he knew he could be content with any answer received...still it was quite tempting and exciting if it should be so. Hearing the chimera speak was odd and very interesting at the same time. He'd met hundreds of them in his life, but this was the first time he saw one of this particular breed. Snow owls were common in the mountains, yet it had never ocurred to him that there might also be chimeras of such lineage. As the man talked, he paid a great deal of attention to details, and surely those would be worth something, specially the mention of magic in their tradition. "Here, that's the staircase. It will lead us to the main entrance down below. Oh and do not apologize; not knowing something is never a fault, but doing nothing about it once you've learned of your ignorance, that's what really is shameful; my first mentor used to say that." As Caudrial spoke of finding his tribe gone and the place devastated he couldn't help but worry that the fugitives from the destroyed prison-tower might have something to do with that. In any case, it was best to acquire more information before going to the Council with a matter like that; after all, THEY were responsible for keeping order in the island. Calimon chose not to mention his thoughts to him, and instead asked: "So your chieftain is a magic-user, and he might have left just before all this happened? Hmm... that is certainly odd." The mention about the Krystopals was what really made the wizard open his eyes in amazement. "You mean you actually have one of those with you right now!? Can I see it?" Every wizard knew of those extremely rare items, but only very few -and very rich- ones had any in their possession, since they weren't found in the crystal caves and know locations had already been cleared of it. A single shard of Krystopal would give Calimon enough material for extensive research and experimentation to keep him bussy for a few months. He then considered the chimera's words on learning the Art. "Well, for what I know, only people born with the Talent for magic are admitted into apprenticeship, and that usually happens when the person is quite young. But I have seen cases of exception, and your being a chimera gives you some pluses. I can take you to the tower of learning and you can ask for admittance, yet you must know that there is no guarantee they'll accept you, and even if they do, you need money to pay for your tuition, which is expensive considering you'd have to live here for a few years." Calimon did not mention that the krystopal shard in itself would be enough -if sold to the right person- to pay for the entire thing. "Oh, and by the way, you can simply call me Calimon." Caudrial handed his strigidae to the wizard and held his clam, but was bursting with excitement on the inside. Though he was not given a straight answer it was not completely out of the question that he could be trained. There were some problems though. The main one being he would have to remain at the towers, and the second he would have to use money...whatever that was. He was sure to learn, but was a bit concerned as Calimon seemed to be deep in thought. Still he followed him down the winding stairs to meet with the guards of this tower. Caudrial thought for several moments to collect his thoughts and spoke as a delightful solution came to mind. "Very well Calimon. I know there is but a slim chance that I would indeed be proper for the study of magic, yet I am willing to try and commit myself to the art. Though there is a slight complication in the matter of this object known as money. Tell me please what is this money and how could I obtain it?" Caudrial was careful to stay the excitement from his voice in order to reamain as respectful as he could. Yet he was an optimistic creature and looked to the good in everything. Pausing for this brief moment, Caudrial proposed a most tempting proposal. "I could not help but notice that your spirit showed great interest with my strigidae...As I promised I would present you with your own Krystopal. My village keeps a rather large stockpile of them if you would be interested in accompanying me back to my cliffs. Yet to walk would be a nearly impossible journey...tell me Calimon, how much do you weigh?" Caudrial was not sure if Calimon possessed magical powers or another mean of transportation, so thought he just might be able to carry the wizard back to his home...taking several breaks along the way of coarse. Yet there it was, if accepted the Wizard by the name of Calimon would be the very first (invited of course) outsider to visit the Scandiacus tribal village. Caudrial was not sure if this was the proper thing to do, but the life of his tribe rested with him, if this was to be the cost then it was a simple price to pay for the survival of his tribe. |

Calimon stopped right where he was and turned abruptly to face the white-feathered man. He looked into those big, yellow eyes, trying to find if perchance there was a hint, however little, of true intentions being hidden. The wizard knew deceit well enough, and though he looked for it very closely, he found no trace of it in Caudrial. Finally, he spoke thus: "I can see now that you are being truthful, Caudrial worshiper of Rapere, and I also see you are indeed in great need of advice and counselling. You do not know the ways of civilized people, and that can get you into great troubles. But do not be afraid. I so happen to be here and glad to help you." The little man said this with the most inexpressive voice and a plain face. He would help the chimera all right, if only for the precious stone promised and the opportunity to perhaps find more about his tribe. "I am, however, a little troubled by the things you have mentioned. If all other members of your tribe are like you, unaware of the ways of the outside world, it is very possible that your people are in grave danger. Yes, I will go with you as soon as I finish my current business here -which shall take me not more than a few hours--. Luckily for you, my body is small and frail, and thus very much light in weight. Meet me right before the sun sets, at the bottom of this tower. There is a large bridge there, over the chasm. I'll wait for you then. In the meantime, I'll show you to the guards and then to a healer. Your wings seem a little damaged and you'll need all your strength for the upcoming trip." This said, the little man showed him to the guards post, and to the first man there he explained that Caudrial was his guest and that he wanted him tested for magical talent. The guard approved his visit as long as Calimon stayed with him, and so he gave them a visitor's badge. Then, the wizard showed Caudrial to the sick bay, where he paid the witch there in advance for taking care of the chimera. |

Caudrial watched as the witch laid him on a small cot sitting high off the ground. This was new to him as he was used to sleeping on the ground. Still the witch had him fold his wings to their full extent of 6'8". She bade him to relax which was difficult as he was not used to being handled in such ways. Using techniques unknown to him Caudrial was most perplexed to her unique abilities, and calmed as the witch began to work her magic. Many minutes passed and Caudrial felt extremely refreshed after her treatment. After answering a several questions and thanking her for her help Caudrial bowed low to the witch kissing her hand as the proper way of showing appreciation. She showed him to the door and turned to another patient waiting her services. It was just past noon and Caudrial was not sure if he should wait at the bridge like Calimon had instructed or if it would be okay for him to explore a bit more...still he thought, the guard did say not to stray far from the Wizard. With a defeated sigh as to not wanting to cause any more problems he slowly made his way to the bridge Calimon had instructed. him to wait. Excited about the help he was going to receive and that he would be again tested for magic Caudrial's mind was racing with the possibility of things to be learned. Walking onto the bridge Caudrial's blue hazed eyes due to the chemical produced to protect his normally colored white eyes peered into the vastness of the sky. Stretching out his wings he hopped upon the ledge and dove from the bridge swooping under and rising high above the bridge he has just leapt from. It was normal practice to stretch his wings before a long journey and if felt wonderful to do so. He rose and dived several times before returning to the bridge, several hours had passed and the sun had lowered itself into the horizon. He knew Calimon would return to him soon so secured his gear and relaxed as he continued to watch the sun retreat under the cover of darkness to come. He could already see the moon slightly revealing itself in the sky. Still his thoughts turned to his family, worried about Calimon's idea that he tribe could be in great danger. Still hope shown bright in those eyes as the blue shades slowly began to fade preparing for nightfall. Edited by Bezooka86, Jan 23 2009, 01:22 AM.

During the afternoon and as soon as he left Caudrial to be healed, Calimon went on to finish his deal with professor Haaligen. Then he paid a visit to his old acquaintance at the 12th floor's library, and did all the research he could about the krystopals and chimera tribes in the island. He found what little information was there on the stone, but to his surprise, no mention was made at all about Rapere or the snow-owl chimeras in any of the books he consulted on the matter. After having tea with another wizard he had dealings with, he then headed to the main market on the towers, and did all he could to find more information. Indeed, someone had heard some rumors about these chimeras, but nothing helpful. He did hear, however, something about the fugitive necromancers who'd escaped a year ago from what was now the ruins of the 8th Tower, and what he heard troubled him greatly. When dusk approached, the little sorcerer finally made his way down to the bridge where he'd told Caudrial to wait for him. Calimon was now wearing a thick cloak and huge snow googles, plus a small leather backpack with his cane firmly tied to it. He was now prepared for travelling in the unusual circumstances the chimera had proposed. "Hullo there!" He greeted as they met, "I've been doing some research on my own, and found a few pieces of information you might want to hear, but I'll tell you all about it once we're on our way." At this, he looked around, making sure nobody was paying too much attention to them. "I think we should be going as soon as possible." If the rumors were right, and his train of thought correct, they would find nobody from Caudrial's tribe -at least, no-one alive-; but they might find clues to help the chimera on his search, and the wizard would be able to learn more about their culture, their magic, and above all, the precious stones their chieftains used for that last purpose. He knew there would be risks, but the chance to study a krystopal in its natural environment would give him greater understanding of the ways ether worked, and that knowledge in itself was invaluable. |

Caudrial nodded as Calimon spoke, and started to prepare himself, but his memories stopped him short. He was greatly troubled about his tribe and yet the spark of hope within him pictured his homecoming in a much different way. The pillars where burning bright as the night guards would be at their posts. Teachers would be leading children around to their different lessons...and his parents, they would be securely nestled sleeping within their den. Kaiki would be with the hunters further learning the ways of the hunt. Yet such a happy thought was stolen by the memory of what his village was when he left and knew all too well that it had most likely not changed. Escaping those thoughts Caudrial motioned for Calimon to stand in front of him and he pulled out a strap from a small sack on his back. " This is a baby strap, for parents to use on their children who are not yet old or strong enough to fly solo." Caudrial smiled as he fit the harness around Calimon widening the length enough to fit him. Bringing two ends of the strap under his arms Caudrial tied it at Calimon's mid back. Then latched the harness to his own armor, then looked down to Calimon. "Are you ready to soar upon the cold winds my friend?" With that Caudrial gave a great push of his wings and dove from the bridge waiting till just the right moment...then let his wings project from his body and using the momentum to push him and his companion into the direction of the tribal village. The blue tint had all but evaporated from his eyes and they were now brimming their natural color. Slowly they increased their altitude to match and defeat the mountains and cliffs soon to come. Caudrial knew it would not be too long of a journey as they had already begun to pierce the thickness of the fog. Still his eyes held precision and was extra cautious to avoid any predators that might be hunting in the skies this night. As the cold grew more and more the armor on Caudrial began to glow and sparkle in its silver colors almost making them glow in the haze and darkness. Caudrial began to tire and knew then that he would have to make at least one stop before they would reach his home. There was a safe spot he had in mind with a little cave, which you really could not call it a cave more like a dugout, but it would protect them both from the harsh winds. Some time passed and Caudrial could start to make out the rocky cliffs of his home and his heart sank to find there where no fires burning this night. Below him he spotted the little cove and gently descended to the point. Landing as gently as he could unlatched Calimon once they were in the shelter of the cove. Caudrial looked to his new friend. "How are you doing so far Calimon? I know it is cold, we are just several miles from my home, but my wings need a bit of rest before we continue." Caudrial moved to a stone and plopped himself upon it, his wings dropping to either side. ((ooc: To The Scandiacus Tribal Village)) |
