Looking for workshop presenters

The entertainment committee is once again looking for ideas for workshops for the upcoming CES event. If you have an idea (either in general or something you'd like to present) please post here or email us at entertainment@readingpagansandwitches.com and we'll see what we can do.

Keep in mind that we don't know what to expect this year from... the locals, so we'll need presenters who are strong in their subject matter and can handle everything from no one showing up to their workshop (which has happened on occasion) to folks heckling or verbally attacking during the presentation, with grace and respect.

Thanks!

P.S. I know Mindy suggested an herb workshop, so I'll poke around to see about finding a presenter knowledgable on the topic.

Is there any reason why you need to use the same venue? It doesn't seem wise to tempt fate. Just saying.... BB- Baudrons No Avatar

It's an inexpensive venue and we were asked back by management to have it for two days. As much as we had controversy last year, we also had a boatload of support from various folks both Pagan and non-Pagan. At this point, we don't know what the 'local protest' if any, will be, but in my mind, at least, I like to be prepared for anything... a kind of 'expect the unexpected but don't be too surprised if nothing happens' mindset, so when asking folks to present, it's only fair (again, in my mind) to let them know what they may be facing, even if, in the long run, nothing bad happens.

Finding venues has been a challenge, for us, for many reasons. We hosted a PPD at the Nature Center in Reading and it was a great location, awesome place and the folks there loved us, however, the municipality closed it for fiscal reasons.

We've looked into other venues, which have had myriad hoops to jump or have restricted the way they've dealt with things to make it hard for an open event (open as in we don't know how many folks will show up vs a ticketed event that restricts attendance, like a concert) to happen, like the park we had May Faire at had issues with other groups having too many people which, to my understanding, led to disorderly acts by individuals that lead that municipality to restrict number of folks coming to any one event. Nothing at all that we did, just one or two bad apples spoiling it for others.

Other places are simply either too out of the way or too expensive to rent or we're not welcome. For any number of reasons, having a venue that welcomes us back is a blessing, also where it's located, it does help folks who are more west of our other venues to attend (folks from Harrisburg/York/Lancaster), if they have trouble with travel.

It's promising to be an exciting (for good reasons, so far) CES this year. So far we've gotten Selena Fox coming in to do a workshop and help with the opening ritual. She was very supportive of the event last year, if folks remember, but was unable to attend then due to a prior committment. My sincere hope is that all folks attending will do so with peace in their hearts and an open mind, regardless of religion or spiritual path. We had a good number of folks, just like that, who DID attend last year and helped make a day that started out on edge mellow into an enjoyable drizzly day (and let's face it, enjoyable and drizzly rarely share the stage lol).
