Sabrina Parker led a short but hard life, battling against the life threatening disease of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Sabrina Parker had all that she could ask for; a caring family, great friends, a considerate and loving boyfriend - but what she did not have was a normal, healthy life. Sabrina Parker was a 16-year-old girl from Jacksonville who was suffering from a life-threatening disease called Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Sabrina Parker’s mother also suffered from the disease and died at the young age of 24. Sabrina Parker started showing signs of this disease just months before, but her condition deteriorated very fast. Towards the end of her life, Sabrina Parker even had difficulty doing the normal functions of her life like eating, walking and breathing. Sabrina Parker was very much loved by her grandparents, friends and boyfriend, who tried to make her life memorable before she left this world. ALS is also known as Lou GehrigLou Gehrig’s Disease after the famous ballplayer, Lou Gehrig who contracted this disease and died of it at the age of 41 years. While none of us knew Miss Sabrina Parker, her death still affects us. This was a girl that had her whole life ahead of her, and lost it at such a young age. Those of you who have read this, your probably older than sixteen right now. Take a look at your life, and think about how you would have felt to be dying at sixteen. While we take life for granted, she was struggling with what little bit of it she had left. It's time to stop sitting around and doing nothing with our lives. We need to live, if not for ourselves, then for everyone else who never got the chance to live. So go out and spend some time with friends, or go say hello to the folks at home. Live life up, because for people like Sabrina Parker, they don't get these chances. If you could, please have a moment of silence for all who have died before they truly have had a chance to live. |
