The UFC has issued the following statement confirming that UFC Heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar will make his return to the octagon this summer against #1 contender Shane Carwin:
Brock is back! Lesnar to defend belt against Carwin at UFC 116
SATURDAY, JULY 3, 2010 – Live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena – Tickets on Sale Thursday, May 13, at 10am PT
Las Vegas, NV (USA) – One day before America watches fireworks to celebrate their independence, the biggest heavyweight title fight ever will go off in Las Vegas. Ultimate Fighting championship® heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar returns to defend his heavyweight championship against interim title holder Shane Carwin as Bud Light Presents UFC® 116: LESNAR vs CARWIN, live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Saturday, July 3.
“When people wonder why the heavyweights capture the imagination of all fight fans, it’s because of guys like Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin,” said UFC President Dana White. “Not only are they great athletes and former national wrestling champions, but they both have the ability to end a fight with one punch. This is one of those fights that you won’t be able to turn away from because it can be over in a split second, and when it’s over, only one will walk away as the undisputed UFC heavyweight champion of the world.”

Kind of sucks that Brock comes back from something like 8 months of injury and has to face a guy that could likely beat him at full strength.

NEW YORK -- UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre is headed back to the set of "The Ultimate Fighter."

The Canadian mixed martial arts star will serve as a coach on the 12th season of the Spike TV reality show, the network announced Friday.

The opposing coach will be the winner of Saturday's fight between Josh Koscheck and Paul (Semtex) Daley. The top 170-pound contenders will square off at UFC 113 in St-Pierre's hometown of Montreal.

UFC president Dana White announced this week that the winner will also get a title shot against St-Pierre.

The Canadian is coming off a decisive win over Dan (The Outlaw) Hardy at UFC 111 last month and has essentially taken out all challengers other than Daley. St-Pierre was a trainer on the fourth season of the show.

Open tryouts for TUF were held last month in Charlotte. Production will start next month in Las Vegas and the new season of the successful reality show premieres Sept. 15.

The cast will be announced in the summer.

Koscheck appeared on the first season of TUF and is looking for a rematch with St-Pierre after dropping a decision to him in 2007 at UFC 74.

With his shoulder quickly recovering from surgery that forced him out of a showdown with UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva, Vitor Belfort will immediately challenge for the title when he returns to the Octagon this fall.

After successfully defending the belt against replacement Demian Maia at UFC 112, Silva will take on Chael Sonnen at UFC 117 in August, and the winner will then face Belfort in a matchup currently targeted for November.

Belfort (19-8) returned to the UFC for the first time in four years when he scored a knockout over Rich Franklin in a bout that headlined UFC 103.

When Mixed martial arts fighter Kyacey Uscola lost during a recent episode of The Ultimate Fighter, he likely had no idea that he would soon suffer a serious penis injury that same night. But that's exactly what happened, nearly placing him in league with Channing Tatum and an unfortunate Super Bowl fan.

Deadspin and Bloody Elbow flagged an interview with Uscola, who says that he was attacked by dogs after his elimination. One of the pitbulls bit "all the way through" the fighter's penis.

Scroll down for more, and click here for the full interview.

Stephan Bonnar: So Kyacey, after you got off the show you had a pretty interesting fight, and this one was not with humans but rather with a pack of pit bulls. What happened?
Kyacey Uscola: I was walking up to the side of the (TUF) house, along the road, when these dogs sort of ran up on me and cornered me, and um I'm an idiot I didn't run when I should've ran, I squared off with them and sliced my hand punching one in the teeth. Got chunks bitten out of my shoulder, hip, hamstring and the uh money one was that they bit through my urethra and uh I had to have a catheter for two weeks...

SB: The tooth actually pierced through your penis?

KU: Yeah, all the way through.

SB: It bit a hole in it?

KU: Yeah.

Can't believe no one responded to that pain out of simple respect for a dog biting through a man's junk.

Despite his loss at UFC 117, Chael Sonnen has earned an immediate rematch with UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva.

UFC president Dana White, who's busy with a final media blitz for this week's UFC 118 event in Boston, today confirmed the plans while on ESPN's "SportsCenter," though a date has not been determined for the rematch.

Sonnen dominated four and a half rounds of the Aug. 7 fight before Silva scored a come-from-behind triangle-choke victory in the fifth and final round.

As MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) reported immediately after the Oakland, Calif. fight, White acknowledged fans' desire for the rematch, but initially he was noncommittal about Silva (27-4 MMA, 12-0 UFC) vs. Sonnen (25-11-1 MMA, 4-4 UFC) II.

"It's definitely a rematch I think people are going to want to see," White said after the event "Looking at Twitter, everybody is saying, 'Rematch. Rematch.' We'll see what happens. Vitor is waiting to fight right now, too. We could do the rematch with Chael, but we'll see what happens. We'll see how it goes."

White's initial reluctance may have been in part due to Vitor Belfort, who was slated to fight Silva until an injury opened the door for Sonnen. Belfort is expected to fight in November, but he's no longer fighting for a title.

Sonnen, of course, heavily hyped the UFC 117 bout with an endless stream of trash-talk. Many fans snickered at Sonnen's bold predictions of victory – Silva, after all, had soundly defeated the 11 previous opponents the UFC put before him – but according to CompuStrike, Sonnen scored 51 strikes to Silva's two in the first round. And through three rounds, he had opened a 218-to-11 gap.

Sonnen continued the lopsided beatdown until the fifth round, when Silva capitalized on one of his opponent's few mistakes and secured a fight-ending triangle choke at the 3:10 mark of the final round.

The rematch is now expected to take place later this year or in early 2012.

Hopefully they mean 2011 and not 2012.

TORONTO -- Former light-heavyweight champions Quinton (Rampage) Jackson and Lyoto (The Dragon) Machida will meet in the main event of UFC 123 in Auburn Hills, Mich.

UFC president Dana White confirmed the matchup at the Palace of Auburn Hills in the Detroit suburb.

Machida (16-1) lost the 205-pound title in May to Mauricio (Shogun) Rua at UFC 113 in Montreal.

Jackson (30-8) won the championship from Chuck (The Iceman) Liddell at UFC 71 in May 2007, defending it against Dan Henderson before losing a decision to Forrest Griffin at UFC 86 in July 2008.

He is coming off a loss by decision to Rashad Evans at UFC 114 in May.

The Michigan fight will precede UFC 124, slated for Dec. 11 in Montreal

According to California State Athletic Commission Executive Officer George Dodd, Chael Sonnen has been notified that he failed post-fight drug screening following his loss to Anderson Silva at UFC 117, which was held Aug. 7 at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif.

“[Sonnen] received his notice yesterday,” Dodd told Sherdog.com shortly after the Shane Mosley-Sergio Mora boxing match ended Saturday night in Los Angeles.

In a conversation the day before, Dodd declined to comment on the situation, other than answering that all fighters from UFC 117 had passed drugs-of-abuse scans, but that the commission was still waiting on performance-enhancing drug screens from the event.

Dodd did not state which banned substance was red-flagged, but with a clean drugs-of-abuse scan it is clear the positive test was for a performance-enhancing substance.

The last major UFC banned-substance case in the state centered on UFC 73’s lightweight title match, which saw both competitors -- Sean Sherk and Hermes Franca -- test positive for PEDs. Both fighters were suspended for one year and fined, though Sherk appealed and had his suspension shortened to six months.

Sonnen is staring at a long layoff if he elects not to appeal or is denied. He was scheduled to rematch Silva Feb. 6 in Las Vegas, but that fight may be delayed or scrapped in light of these allegations.

Text messages to Sonnen went unreturned.

His manager Matt Lindland told Sherdog.com that he was cornering a fighter on the East Coast and had no knowledge of the positive test results.

Silva’s manager Ed Soares, who engaged in some heated exchanges via the media in the build up to the fight, was stunned when asked for his reaction.

“If it’s true, I feel really bad for him,” said Soares. “I know he did it to himself but it is really sad, he put on such a great performance that night. It is just a shame it will be tarnished.”

Machida and Silva are the only two fighters to knock somebody out with a front kick.
