I watched it Monday night and it deserves all the hype surrounding it...by far the best movie out of 2008. Started out a little slow for the first 15 or 20 minutes, but after that it was amazing.

Also, Taken is the best action film I've seen in a long time. The main character is just a complete badass through the whole movie

Just figured I'd share with you guys incase you were interested.

I'm downloading Man on Wire right now, it's a documentary that is supposedly really good. Seems pretty interesting.
Quote:

On August 7, 1974, Philippe Petit, a French wire walker, juggler, and street performer days shy of his 25th birthday, spent 45 minutes walking, dancing, kneeling, and lying on a wire he and friends strung between the rooftops of the Twin Towers. Uses contemporary interviews, archival footage, and recreations to tell the story of his previous walks between towers of Notre Dame and of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, his passions and friendships, and the details of the night before the walk: getting cable into the towers, hiding from guards, and mounting the wire. It ends with observations of the profound changes the walk's success brought to Philippe and those closest to him.

Slumdog Millionaire is indeed a gem.

Let me know once you have seen Man On Wire. I wanted to download that a couple of days back but wasn't sure if it was worth the DL.

Slumdog Millionaire owned the competition on the Oscar night. They wont each nomination they were in. Pretty insane when you think of the competition they were against.

It is already on my list :D

I wasn't really interested in Slumdog either because I'm not into Bollywood type movies. But once I found out it wasn't a Bollywood movie and the basis of the story it seemed really interesting so I gave it a shot.

I will most likely watch it tonight, it's only got a few more minutes left on the download. I heard about it back when it first came out and was going to go see it, but it never came to a theater around here and ended up forgetting about it till it won an Oscar.

Stick with it through the first 15 or so minutes, it's about 80% subtitles and it gets a little confusing...but then after that it's all english and amazing.

They don't bother me either...Apocalypto is one of my favorite movies  I know they bother a lot of people though so I figured I would give a warning.

Being a big Danny Boyle fan I was actually somewhat disappointed with Slumdog Millionaire.

My top 10 of 2008:

1) The Wrestler
2) Wall-E
3) The Reader
4) The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
5) Rachel Getting Married
6) The Dark Knight
7) Happy-Go-Lucky
8) Slumdog Millionaire
9) Synecdoche, New York
10) Revolutionary Road

Did not see, and might see, which could end up making it into my top 10:
Paranoid Park
Redbelt
The Fall
Frozen River
Let the Right One In
Waltz with Bashir
Defiance
Ballast
Snow Angels
The Sky Crawlers
Gomorra
Che
I’ve Loved You So Long
Wendy and Lucy
Departures

It was pretty interesting, I would say worth the download just because of how crazy the whole event was. I will probably end up watching it a few more times.

After seeing the mess of a film that was "Sunshine," I think I'll skip the Slumdog. It might go from a drama to a slapstick horror/comedy at the start of act 3.
