As you might have seen on ESPN or any other outlet. Michael Phelps marijuana photo has caused for Subway and Kellogs to drop their sponsorship on Michael. I don't need to post the picture because I'm guessing most of ya'll seen the photo and for the record, i don't know what he's using to inhale the marijuana :shifty: such a good boy wouldn't know :shifty: Anyways, Michael Phelps have also been given a 3-month vacation to think about what he did.

Has this been blown out of proportion?? or he should be punished further??

My 2 cents is that he's just getting a slap on the wrist. He's supposed to be a role model for younger kids and this is really shameful. And those sponsors that have accepted his apology only makes you wonder if their CEO have smoke marijuana before to accept his apology as his only punishment. what do you guys think??

the man was suspended from competition for 3 months what else would you like them to do? for a first time offense I think it is a good punishment. He already suffered enough with the hit is reputation just took. It will always taint his career.

He fucked up, big deal. He will learn not to do it again or he wont. If he doesnt then bye bye career, reputation and money. So what he got was enough, get over it and let the man worry bout winnin us gold again

Not really.

People will forget within a few months.

The punishment was too harsh. First off it was on his off time so the Swimming commitee had no business poking around.

I mean the guy apologize like a hundred times, that was enough. To quote Charles Barkley "I didn't get pay to be a role model" so who cares about what everybody else thinks right? Its your life.

If this is the worst he ever does then he should be fine. I mean it's not like Michael Phelps is societies introduction into the dark underworld of marijuana use. Here's a shocker for everyone up in arms about this. He's a 23 year old guy that smokes dope at a party. Call the Washington Post! He's one of a kind!!!!

I can be very clever and eloquent when I have the desire to be.

But judging by the normal audience I keep, there is very little reason to be. :shifty:

8 people have now been arrested that were in the photo and charged for drug possession :uhoh:

This is complete b.s. and I'm ready for it to be legalized. It's part of the beach/swimming culture...pretty much every swimmer I know smokes pot, everyone I go to the beach with 3-4 times a week during the summer smokes, and i'm pretty positive more than 3/4ths of the swimmers in college smoke. It's no big deal. I don't think they should drag his personal life into it. I could see if he murdered someone that they would drop a sponsorship but I mean...all it is is weed. It's not like people die using it, or put other people in danger coughcigarettesandalcoholcough

Yeah exactly.

Half of these swimmers smoke pot. Michael was the unfortunate one that got caught and got suspended for something a good percetage of these swimmers do anyway.

I agree with most of what flamez said. I do disagree with the fact it doesn't harm other people though. weed can be way more harmful then cigerettes not to mention it still hinders your judgment and reflexes so it can at that point be compared to alcohol. so essentially weed is cigerettes and alcohol in one conveinient package. The only way weed will be legal here is if the governmet can tax the shit out of it and make money. not too mention it would probably be poor quality weed if the government controlled it.

Alright yeah I got off on a tangent on it not being as harmful  We just had a huge discussion about it in my class tonight because the teacher was talking about how he was the biggest pothead there was in the 70's

Yeah, like I said...down here it's nothing unusual. If you're on the beach and get caught with it most of the time they won't even write you a ticket and just make you throw it away. I guess it's just because it's so much a part of the beach scene. One of my teachers (a differen't one than the one I was just talking about haha) was talking about it today also. She's from the same area as Michael Phelps and she said in high school every single person on the swimteam was a pothead  Like you said, it's just unfortunate he was the one that got caught.

Not to mention save the hundreds of millions of dollars that are currently being spent to fight it, and pay for people in jail that are in for it.

government weed will be weak compared to weed off the streets so I doubt they would make to much money.
