Ford Motor Co. offers the most vehicles in America with top safety ratings, says the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Advertisement The institute today released its "Top Safety Pick" awards list for 2009, which recognizes vehicles that do the best job of protecting people in front, side and rear crashes, based on the institute's tests. Ford had more winners than any other automaker -- 16 in all. Honda Motor Co. was second, with 13 winners. General Motors Corp. and Toyota Motor Corp. tied with eight each. In all, 72 vehicles made the list, double the number of winners a year ago. Chrysler LLC, based in Auburn Hills, was the only major automaker that did not receive a single top safety pick. The institute said Chrysler could have picked up five awards "if the head restraints were better in the Dodge Avenger and Chrysler Sebring, the Sebring convertible, and the Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country." |

Also in case some people were unaware (myself included) GM is officially looking to sell Saab. They are pursuing avenues for Saturn including dropping them altogether. Finally, Pontiac is on shaky ground...meaning they may get shut down. |

GM should be Chevrolet, Buick, GMC(well I like it), and Hummer. When it becomes profitable again bring back Pontiac and Hummer needs to go through drastic changes now like killing the H2 and producing more efficient H3s and H3Ts and they need to create the H4 with high torque electric motors like Jeep is working on. GM update/opinion is complete. |

yeah but it still shows the vette can improve. I remember hearing they were going to swap it to rear engine for the next one they make doubt that will happen now though. |

I dont see it happening anyway. And why? It already outruns all those mid and rear cars anyway. Just more fun to beat em with a supposedly inferior method

I figure they should move up in class. Quit stealing Ferrari designs and steal McLaren designs. I'm sure Josh would love that.

Take this for what it's worth because the media is generall worthless on auto news, but they are saying that GM is quoted as saying the following in their plan to Congress: "GM would focus on four brands — Chevrolet, GMC, Buick and Cadillac. By 2012, the plan calls for 20,000 to 30,000 fewer workers, a reduction of nine facilities and 1,750 fewer dealers. The company also outlined efforts to negotiate swapping some of the company’s debt for equity stakes in the automaker." http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28012984/page/2/ |

I still don't understand the GMC thing. Now I understand the trucks are great looking, but they are nothing more than Checy clones. The brand offers nothing exclusive. Pontiac could of been something if they had tried to do something with it. Saturn would of been huge right now if they had stuck with the original idea behind the company of non-UAW workers and employee profit sharing and small fuel efficient cars. Of course they caved in and let Saturn in because the union wanted to build them too. |

Yea I saw where they was thinkin of sellin Saturn or cuttin it all together and that I cant see. Seem to me that brand would be worth a good bit to em. Small cars, good economy and not that bad lookin. I mean other companys make far worse. |
