Castroneves to NASCAR? Add Helio Castroneves' name to the list of open-wheel stars wanting to try NASCAR. The two-time Indy 500 winner said late Wednesday he is intrigued by the possibility of racing in America's most popular series. "Because of the popularity and attention the sport has gotten, there is no question I would like to try," he said during NASCAR's preseason media tour of race shops. "The closest thing I have gotten so far is the IROC and I have liked it." Castroneves drives for Penske in the IRL and will drive a sports car for the team at Sebring in March. He has gotten more exposure to the company's NASCAR operation since Penske has moved all of its racing operations into one complex north of Charlotte, N.C. "With everything under one roof, I'm going to be looking at it even more," Castroneves said. "I know it is a challenge, but if I go for it, I will give my 100 percent to it." People, there's only 43 spots in the field! We're almost at full capacity this year with full time fully sponsored teams.

That's why it's called a competitive sport, because people have to compete for spots in the races. If we only had the same 43 drivers attempt every race, the sport would get rather boring after a while. Having 52 full time teams will mean that some drivers unfortunately will have to go home empty handed on race day. Because it's a competition, those drivers going home most likely wouldn't have been competitive on raceday. Rest assured though that the top drivers will be on all 36 races and for anyone 30th or below well it's a crap shoot, but hey at least we got competition now.

Yeah, I mean I'm not saying it's bad to have this much talent and this many sponsored teams running full time, but soon ( as you said, this year probably ), there's gonna be some good teams going home and it's going to be happening on a weekly basis now.
