Petty and Junior would be good combination if they the cars in winning condtion.

If you look at the results that Bobby Labonte had in the #43 car in 2006 that team is more than capable of running competitively. Labonte had a realistic chance to have a victory or two during the season and even had a car capable of it when mechanical issues arose in a few events. I'm certain Dale Earnhardt Jr. in a Petty ride would easily achieve similar results to those of Bobby Labonte's and probably in a shorter period of time no less.

However as much as I would love to see the Earnhardt and Petty names together on the same team, the thought is nothing more than a dream. While that thought is a dream that get's my hopes high, it's also one that is unlikely to come true. I wouldn't expect Jr. to be leaving DEI anytime soon though, because this story seems more the product of an overzealous press looking for an audience; an audience that is all too willing to listen to whatever information is spoonfed their way.

The biggest thing J-R would bring in for the Petty teams would be money. Let's face it, Jr alone probably brings in more sponsor dollars than both Petty teams.
