The Race: Golden Corral 500

The Place: Atlanta Motor Speedway

Tony's last race at Atlanta: October 30, 2005 (I WAS THERE...okay you all know it by now...)

Start/Finish: 10/9

Tony's Atlanta Stats:

Career Starts: 14

Wins: 1 (March 10, 2002)

Top Fives: 4

Top Tens: 8

Tony's Five Best Atlanta Finishes

1st Once (Spring 2002)

2nd Once (Fall 2003)

4th Once (Fall 2002)

5th Once (Spring 2003)

7th Once (Spring 2004)

Best Career Atlanta Start (Not including weather cancellations):

3rd: Spring 1999

Last Week's Finish: 21st at Las Vegas

Tony's Current Point Standing: 19(-236 to J. Johnson)

Other Notes:

This race last year snapped a streak of seven straight top tens at AMS with a 17th place result. Tony's eight Atlanta top tens have all come in the last nine races.

Tony's 19th place points position is his lowest after three races since his rookie season of 1999.

Joe Gibbs Racing Chevies and Pontiacs have won seven races, although only one has been the orange Home Depot car (March 2002). All other wins were by the green and black Interstate Batteries cars of former teammate Bobby Labonte.

Home Depot, Coca-Cola, and SunTrust, all sponsors of Tony, are all based in Atlanta, making this a "Home race" of sorts for certain.

The car he'll be in is the same one he had last March and struggled in.

Its also the car that went from 43rd to fifth last July at Chicago and finished 7th two weeks later at Pocono. This race last year was its very first, and it ran at Dover in June and almost got a top ten (Speeding penalty), so its a fairly good race car.
