The Race: Golden Corral 500

The Place: Atlanta Motor Speedway

The Skinny: The Nextel Cup circuit heads back east to the fastest track on the circuit, the Atlanta Motor Speedway, just south of the big city. The key word this weekend: Speed, speed, speed. That will be the big thing this weekend. All the speed.

Driver to Watch:

Atlanta can't come quick enough for Carl Edwards, a driver direly in need of a big rebound. Only one top 20 result (Third at Fontana) has him sitting in the back half of the points, but after sweeping last year's trips to NASCAR's fastest track, he could begin his march to a championship Sunday.

Keep an Eye on:

Jamie McMurray has only one Nextel Cup win, but he very well could make it a duece on Sunday. He always runs well at Atlanta, and with a Roush Ford up under him, he'll be that much better.

Potential Story Lines:

Side by side at the line? Atlanta's trademark is a late race showdown. It may or may not end with a side by side result like we've seen three times in March, but there is always two or three guys with a shot to win late and they're right together in the closing laps.

Roush/Hendrick show again? One of the two teams has won all three races, and a Roush car won and a Hendrick car was 2nd in both races last year. Gibbs, RCR, and Evernham will have to step it up Sunday before this year turns into a Roush/Hendrick fest like last year.

Smoke vs The Shrub? Tony Stewart and Kyle Busch haven't exactly been best buds the last three races, and while Atlanta isn't the track you'd typically pay someone back or retaliate for earlier incidents, other contactless driving tactics could show up if the pair carry their rift with them to the Peach State.

A return to glory for Bobby? When Atlanta Motor Speedway's final chapter is written, its very likely the name Bobby Labonte will pop up a few times. He might not win or even place among the top 10 Sunday, but finishing in the top 15 would be a great boost for a team that has failed to live up to the ridiculously high expectations many set in the pre season.

On Top of the World: Jimmie Johnson and co. are leaving the dominance to others, then sneaking up at the end, and its earned them two victories and a runner up result. Things are going very well for him.

Lucky The World Ain't Flat So I can't Fall off: Nothing has gone right for Sterling Marlin in his three races with MB2 Motorsports. Finishes of 34th, 32nd, and 36th have him sitting an abysmal 39th in the standings

Lucky the world ain't flat so I can't get thrown off: For the second week in a row, nobody needs to be thrown, all though Tony Stewart might want to give Kyle Busch a toss....

This Week's "Word" Of NASCAR : "You have to clear the air. You don't want to get spun out at Atlanta -- that would hurt."- Kyle Busch when asked about his plans to seek out Tony Stewart.

This week's random factoid: Kasey Kahne has three top fives in four Atlanta appearances. A crash last fall caused his lone none-top five result: 35th.

Do you mean Atlanta instead of Fontana for your title?

Sucks I picked Jr at Vegas :uhoh: Oh well in order to win the title you have to take gambles. Proud to say I had that much faith in my boy :)
