Contract keeps Kahne in No. 9 through 2010

By JIM UTTER

ThatsRacin.com Writer

INDIANAPOLIS – With a favorable result from his lawsuit with Ford in hand, Nextel Cup driver Kasey Kahne is set to formalize a long-term contract extension with Evernham Motorsports.
Team owner Ray Evernham is expected to announce Saturday that Kahne has signed a five-year contract extension that should keep him at Evernham Motorsports and in the No. 9 Dodge through the 2010 season, ThatsRacin.com has learned.

Last week, a U.S. District Court judge in Detroit issued a summary judgment in favor for Kahne in a breach of contract lawsuit brought by Ford Motor Co.

The court agreed with Kahne that his 2002 personal services agreement with Ford was not enforceable under Michigan law.

Kahne, 25, won rookie of the year honors in Cup last season, his first with Evernham. He earned his first series win earlier this season at Richmond, Va. Kahne is 21st in points, with two poles, four top-five and five top-10 finishes.

Jamie McMurray negotiating while he's under contract for another season...rumors of Harvick and Labonte leaving early, etc.
