All not racing and no racing for three weeks makes Toad2 really flippin' bored. So here goes nothing.

(this doesn't account for unconfirmed new teams, such as the second Wood Brothers team or a third car for Robert Yates. The only new teams accounted for are the #1 DEI car and #10 Evernham car.)

#0 Netzero/Best Buy Chevrolet...Brendan Gaughan.... Mike Bliss ran well early this season, but lately he's been hitting everything he can. Brian Vickers' tap in the Open seemed to signal the start of his spiral, and I don't think he'll last the season. This team is ever-quick to change personnel, and Gaughan has been linked to them in the past. I don't think a full-time Cup driver will end up here.

#01 US Army Chevrolet...Joe Nemechek.... He's locked up for a couple more seasons. Assuming no more confrontations with Kevin Harvick, I think this team will get back to contending for wins soon.

#02 (formerly #10) State Farm Chevrolet...Scott Riggs.... It seems like Riggs wants to stay if sponsorship can be found. Rumor has it that they have a sponsor; Jayski has them linked to Allstate, Big Lots, and State Farm. I don't think Big Lots is going to step up out of completely nowhere and sponsor a Cup team, and Allstate is probably quite content with its position as a high-profile associate with Evernham Motorsports. Thus State Farm seems to be the most logical option.

#07 Jack Daniel's Chevrolet...Dave Blaney.... Rumor has it Blaney's on the outs, but I think unless they can get Sterling Marlin or Michael Waltrip, they'll probably stay put. He'll be on borrowed time, however, as Clint Bowyer or even Paul Tracy may pressure him to perform.

#1 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet...Martin Truex Jr.... Confirmed. The only other possibility would be to have him run car number 15 if no other driver can be found; but I think DEI will want to stay with three cars.

#2 Miller Lite Dodge...Casey Mears.... Since Coors Light has proven that old people don't drink beer ( :screwy: ), Miller Lite will want a young driver to replace Rusty Wallace. However, they've also stated that they don't want a driver-in-training, they want someone who already races Nextel Cup. Mears seems like the most viable option, although they might prefer a proven winner.

#4 Lucas Oil Chevrolet...Mike Wallace.... This team has also been quick to change personnel, but I think Mike Wallace has clicked with this bunch and they're pointed in the right direction. More funding would obviously help, but unless a driver is available already tied to a sponsor, Mike Wallace will probably stay in this car.

#5 Kellogg's Chevrolet...Kyle Busch.... Busch has run well of late, and Hendrick has no reason not to let him continue to grow.

#6 Pennzoil Ford...Sterling Marlin.... For the record, I don't think Pennzoil really is the sponsor. I just don't have a better idea, and Pennzoil already sponsors Roush Racing. I think Marlin is the perfect solution to Jack Roush's problem. Mark Martin can keep his word and retire, Roush can have a capable driver take over his car for one season, and Marlin can run his final season in a competitive ride and challenge for the title. It's perfect.

#7 Jim Beam Chevrolet...Robby Gordon.... Robby can't fire himself, and he's got enough sponsors that he might not burn all his bridges in time for next season.

#8 Budweiser Chevrolet...Dale Earnhardt Jr.... Not leaving for Childress just yet.

#9 Dodge Dealers Dodge...Kasey Kahne.... He has no reason to be going anywhere....

#10 Valvoline Dodge...Michael Waltrip.... Least of all his new teammate. Waltrip is a sponsor's dream, and knows enough about plate racing that he could help mend Evernham's struggling superspeedway program. He could also be conceivably reunited with his old crew chief, Slugger Labbe, if they do a little reshuffling. That combo in a car that runs especially well on the mile-and-a-half tracks (where Mikey struggled) could be a recipe for success in '06.

#11 FedEx Chevrolet...JJ Yeley.... This is why they created the 11 team in the first place. Leffler probably won't last until the end of 2005 in this car; Joe Gibbs Racing is not used to running in the 30s.

#12 Alltel Dodge...Ryan Newman.... Sure, why not?

#15 Menards Chevrolet...Paul Menard.... DEI might not really want two rookies at the same time, especially accompanied by two new sponsors and a new team, but team cornerstone Michael Waltrip is out, Paul's daddy brings good financial backing to replace Napa (not that DEI would ever be hurting for cash, mind you), and Teresa Earnhardt isn't exactly known for sensible or patient roster moves. Thus we have Nextel Cup rookie Paul Menard taking over for Michael Waltrip.

#16 National Guard Ford...Greg Biffle.... Replacing the 48 as the most dominant team in Nextel Cup racing. Not that I'm biased or anything.

#17 DeWalt Ford...Matt Kenseth.... He might be McMurray's teammate in 2007, he might not. But he's still going to run the 17 for another season.

#18 Interstate Batteries Chevrolet...Bobby Labonte.... They say he might leave. But there isn't a better ride available (save the 2 or the 6, but Miller Lite wants a kid and Bobby's not the kind of driver you hire as a stopgap), so Labonte will be content to stay put.

#19 Dodge Dealers Dodge...Jeremy Mayfield.... Still quietly successful. Shhh. Don't tell anyone.

#20 Home Depot Chevrolet...Tony Stewart.... Surprised?

#21 Motorcraft Ford...Ricky Rudd.... He's getting up there in years, but I think he'll probably announce his retirement a bit farther in advance than midseason, so he'll be sticking around for another tour, perhaps with the team owner's kid as a teammate.

#22 Caterpillar Dodge...Mike Skinner.... Put bluntly, Scott Wimmer is sucking. So is the team, though, so I don't think they'll be attracting any free agents. They're then left to promote a driver out of their truck program. It won't be Johnny Benson (sadly) and barring pressure or team stupidity, it won't be Bill Lester (he needs a bit more time). Mike Skinner it is.

#24 Dupont Chevrolet...Shane Hmi...:shifty:...er, Jeff Gordon.... Just checking to see if you were awake.

#25 ditech.com Chevrolet...Brian Vickers.... He's steadily improving. Unless Hendrick gets impatient and brings up one of their wrecker Busch drivers, I think this bunch will win a race soon.

#29 GM Goodwrench Chevrolet...Kevin Harvick.... Unless he goes to the 2, he'd be a fool to leave the 29 car. But somehow I don't think Harvick and Roger Penske would get along....

#31 Cingular Chevrolet...Jeff Burton.... This team isn't producing the results expected of them, but I don't think Childress would make a move for any of the drivers on the market right now.

#32 Tide Chevrolet...Jason Leffler.... Hey! He sucked driving for a team that won two championships! Let's hire him to drive for our team that wouldn't finish in the top 10 in a 12-car race when 9 of them wreck! (But seriously, he's better than Bobby Junior.)

#38 M&M's Ford...Elliott Sadler.... Again, surprised?

#40 Coors Light Dodge...David Stremme.... Gag.

#41 Target Dodge...Ward Burton.... A WARD BURTON SIGHTING...! But seriously, with Sterling Marlin gone, and Jamie McMurray on the outs in favor of Reed Sorenson in '07, Ganassi could use a solid veteran driver to balance out the youngsters. Someone needs to hire Ward Burton. If Chip comes to his senses, it'll be him.

#42 Texaco Havoline Dodge...Jamie McMurray.... Lame duck.

#43 Cheerios Dodge...Jeff Green.... Because nobody else wants to drive for Petty Enterprises. What an unfortunate existence, this fall from grace.

#45 rotating sponsorship Dodge...Kyle Petty.... This team is going to have a rotating sponsorship program à la teams 16 and 99 in 2006. Maybe STP will come back and be on the car for a few races?

#48 Lowe's Chevrolet...Jimmie Johnson.... OMG NO FRIGGIN WAY

#49 Schwan's Dodge...Ken Schrader.... It's his final season. I'm a big fan of the whole team, but good luck finding a replacement.

#77 Kodak Dodge...Travis Kvapil.... Roger Penske was quick to fire Brendan Gaughan when he didn't run well quickly enough. But Kvapil seems well-liked at Penske Racing and has been known as the middleman between Rusty and Ryan. For that, they might just let him stick around.

#88 UPS Ford...Dale Jarrett.... Race that truck, Dale. After 2006, you'll have lots of free time. (Or perhaps not.)

#97 Sharpie Ford...Kurt Busch.... No shocker.

#99 Office Depot Ford...Carl Edwards.... Office Depot sponsors the car for all season next year. Since he's won at tracks he's only seen in video games (and since it was Pocono, it must have been NR2003! *slap*), just think how good he'll be with a full season under his belt.

A crazy silly season on the driver front, but a quiet one on the sponsor front. Some of my predictions might not come true (Marlin, Menard, State Farm, WARD BURTON), but I have my share of confidence.

Anyone have a better idea?

Mikey'd be great for the #10, but I don't see it happening.

Hm...I see Gaughan in the 10...not the 0.

Hopefully, the 0 gets someone else and Mikey gets a good ride.

Toad you forgot the #37 which is planning on running full-time next year with Bospoker.net and the #66 which is suppossed to have Peak Fitness back as well next year. The #92 however may not return.

the #50 also may run full-time next year.

Casey,

Nobody gives a fuck about 40-43rd place cars running a full season, or who will drive them.

Well some people do. Stop being so ignorant. It really gets you no where.

By the Way the #37 is ahead of the #7 in owner points, and the #7 was included in the list.

When you say full-time you should include every full-time team. 2 more wouldn't of killed one person.

As much as I love to see those teams do well, I'm not all that confident about their running full-time. I don't see them picking up a major sponsor that would allow them to run competitively (I wouldn't call Bospoker and Peak Fitness major sponsors).

Those teams also make odd and frequent driver moves (Chad Blount ran 2 or 3 races in the 37 last year and faded into nothingness this season; nobody had heard of Mike Garvey before he got the 66 ride; etc.); thus they're much more difficult to predict.

I wouldn't say nobody I have known about and liked Mike Garvey for awhile because of ASA and Hooters Pro Cup. It's just the majority hadn't heard of him because not many watch anything lower then trucks it seems.

Yeah, you can't be sure that they will run full-time. But I believe that Peak Fitness signed a two year deal with the #66 team.

And also the #37 did have Blount last year, but ever since they have hired Lepage, Lepage has been the only driver. Lepage has also had some good runs as for instance at Daytona with a top 10 and at Charlotte with an 11th place finish.

And yes I wouldn't call them major sponsors, but it is better than none.

Yep, any little bit helps so that the owner doesn't have to pay everything out of their own pocket.

That's where you're wrong.

I've said before that I like the guys who I dislike competing...and being good. It's fun to dislike someone who does well, because it makes their misfortunes even sweeter.
