Hi - I'm Winstonopia - the founder and Foreign Affairs Minister of RSN (Red Sox Nation). I contacted you all on NS and was nicely directed to come on your forum... so here I am! :yay:

I'm hoping to establish close relations with Q102. We are a great region who, because we've previously had subpar Foreign Affairs Ministers, have been pretty isolated from most other big regions. Our only allies were regions with like 20 nations and no activity... which didn't suit us at all. Now, that's all starting to change. We are now talking to many large regions (some of which you know - like Jethnea) and are hoping for a few (not more than 3 or 4) close alliances and many other regions as just friends. We've re-done our whole Foreign Sector of our forum to incorporate this new change.

I'll tell you a little about RSN. I founded my own region last November after randomly encountering NS and having no idea what I was doing. I luckily found a few other people out of the Pacifics and they really helped me figure out what I was doing. Soon enough, Red Sox fans and tons of other people started coming in. We established a constitution, complex set of laws, positions, etc. Our forum is great and very active and we are well set for the future.

We write a weekly report for our allies and friends - if you would like a copy each week just tell me and I can post it here.

We have been known to invade (very rarely) but mostly either defend allies orjust sit back and stay out of most military conflicts. We have about 85 or so nations in RSN (but this number is misleading because a very large percentage come on our forum) and the UN Delegate has about 25 endorsements. We welcome nations of any kind and size and are very democratic. Very very democratic! We concentrate less on NS and roleplay and more on real-life events - tons of political debates, arguments between Americans and British (oh so much fun! :P ), and tons of sports-talk. Btw if you're interested in fantasy football, we're starting a league and have like 6-7 people and need more before the end of the month!!!! Tell me if you want in (free and easy)!!!!! :)

We (or at least I) see alliances less for military protection and more for fun. We go on your forum and you come on ours. We can have contests, debates, competition, or just exchange ideas and other stuff. We are very active (well not right now because everybody is on vacation) and I can assure you will not die out anytime soon!

Please tell me a bit about Q102 and any questions you might have. I might be a little inactive because my internet connection is very touch-and-go right now... but I will come back. When? Can't guarantee anything! <_<

Thanks a bunch,

Winstonopia

Hey! Thanks for all that info about your region, it sounds a pretty damn fun place! It's great that you're so active, and that the forums are such a success. We'll put the embassy proposal to Parliament, so you should have a definitive answer very soon. :)

Thanks very much!

Btw like half our region is currently on vacation... so the forum looks totally inactive right now.. but it isn't! Are you all stricken by absences the last week or two? I think it'll all really pick up as we get into fall. :)

If you like I can give you guys a consulate on our forum now - it is just a place where we can talk on our forum. Not an official anything - even if your Parliament says no it is still an informal place for contact.

Can I ask a few questions while you are waiting to see about your embassy?

What advantage in your view does your type of alliance give? How is it different from simply exchanging embassies and if not why is it needed?

You say you invade regions but rarely. How many and which ones, oh and why did iy happen?

As for knowing about us I would recommend having a look through our Laws and COnstitution for a good basis and then ask some specific questions :)

Happily! B)

1. What advantage is an alliance? More interaction, more fun, more people to talk to, mainly. Of course, the military aspect is a plus... but kind of unecessary if you ask me. How many times do we get invaded? ^_^ As I wrote before, we (or at least I) see alliances less for military protection and more for fun. We go on your forum and you come on ours. We can have contests, debates, competition, or just exchange ideas and other stuff.

A joint fantasy sports league is a great idea (if you guys are interested in sports - if not tell me and I'll shut up about that). We have a bunch of forum games (come on our forum under the games section and you'll see what I mean) and we could definately have some fun with that. Inter-regional olympics? there's an idea for the future! I think it is a good idea to read laws and constitutions of other regions and maybe borrow some of their ideas (in essence, copy) if they make sense. That's where we get our ideas! Our constitution was copied from another region and then altered to fit our specific needs! We also love to talk, debate, discuss, and argue-with-a-lot-of-annoying-smilies about politics. Big talks about gay marriage, stem cells, global warming, Bush, that kind of thing. It's always interesting to hear other people's views - I know what most of my region feels about these hot topics but I don't know what you guys think!

An exchange of embassies is pointless in my view. I have seen some regions with countless "embassies" - a topic wih no posts, no replies, no interaction. They claim to have 472 allies... but obviously if there is no contact between the regions it shouldn't be considered an alliance! Instead, as Foreign Affairs Minister I am trying to establish 2,3, maybe 4 (tops) strong allies. This way we can be sure we have close contact with all of them. I'm open to having an unlimited amount of "friends" who have consulates in RSN - but an alliance is a bigger deal I guess!

Invading? Well personally I'm against it for the most part. There are a few in our region that "invade" just because they are bored and want to accomplish something. Our "army" is a bit disorganized at the moment and not able to really "invade" a region with more than like 10 nations in it. We have invaded 2 or 3 regions (I can't really give out names - but they were all random regions who we didn't know). The point was to seize the UN Delegacy and update the World Factbook entry and then that's it. We didn't kick people out or mess with them - we tried to get them to come to RSN and then eventually we got bored again and left them alone. None of these "invasions" were ever successful for more than a few days! We are a democratic region and tried to spread democracy (no we aren't the US in the middle east...) to the regions we went to.

I'll go look at your laws now.

Btw physics feel free to correct me if I'm wrong about any of this. Thanks

Thanks for answering (btw, you don't have to answer me, I am in no way an official personage...well except as a Judge but that is internal to Q102 only :) )

You might find the Canada-Q102 Protocol On Ambassadors interesting, it came out of an inter region conference we held and is here:
http://z6.invisionfree.com/Q102/index.php?showtopic=1225

Alliances in the past have grown out of sustained contact. I share your opinion of the silliness of having many alliances with regions you never see so a good basis is to have contact for a period of time first.

I was looking at your forum. Your debates on regional laws are quite interesting. I noticed you try to legislate for all eventualities. In Q102 we have a more common law approach. Much of our "law" is just the way stuff has been done as the region grew. Sometimes we pass a law to clarify it, other times we just do the "traditional" thing. Our court is there to determine what that is in case of dispute amongst other things.

Yes - our debates end up as two sides stubbornly argue about their version. It's more of who-gets-the-power-to-do-what really. The part about legislating for all possible scenarios is probably my doing and my fault. Your system does sound interesting and is probably a good aternative RSN should look at. See - copying ideas already! ;)

I like making legislation specific because people in RSN like to try to squeeze around rules and find loopholes (me included).

Things I found interesting about your laws and stuff:
1. Only UN members can be First Councilman
2. Elections are conducted through PM and not by a poll - but that is cleverly checked by a 2nd nation to ensure no cheating
3. How do you make sure no member opens up a second account and votes twice?
4. Ministry of Hospitality is a brilliant idea. I'm going to talk to the rest of RSN about getting one!
5. You have harsh rules about people being absent... we are more lenient (see our "Emergency Act" which I wrote - it is here: http://z14.invisionfree.com/The_Red_Sox_Na...p?showtopic=294 and I like it a lot)
6. I like your "slander and misrepresentation act" - and I love your punishment!!! lol

Oh by the way you guys will be getting a Red Sox Report from us on Friday unless you don't want one.

Yay, questions for us! Anyone mind if I field them? No? Okay...

1. First Councilman Delegate = UN Delegate of region. So has to be UN really.
2. Borrowed that idea ourselves from the old Peoples republic of The Pacific. It works well.
3. That is a board administration function. No one is allowed to have more than one account anyway - it is something you agree to when you sign up (you did read the terms and conditions didn't you :P ) So administration do not tolerate multiple accounts anyway.
4. as I remember we "borrowed" that idea too, but the name of the region escapes me as it was more than a year and a half ago.
5. it has not been tested in the court yet so no one seems to have found it too onerous and to be honest it isn't enforced very strictly - Common Law at work again.
6. We use the signature punishment as a general minor sentence. It's fun and relavant to a forum :) The slander came about due to a short lived burst of political parties.

If you are interested you may like to have a look in our Parliament where a major addition to the Constitution looks like it is going through this week. It could mean big changes for us, particulalrly as we have always been a neutral region until now and made so by laws. The Parliament Act is significant too, it sets out how debates and votes work, how they should be begun and ended, and how long they last.

Cool. Our debates are not organized - just informal and mostly arguing! :)

I see about your UN Delegate. We made it so our UN Delegate is totally separated from our regional government and has no power. We did this because we are keeping the endorsement system on NS totally separate from our voting system on the forum. Works both ways I guess.

Of course I read the terms and conditions! :) hehe... umm... (you don't have lie detectors do you???)
