I asked -Tre Cool- why he left and he said:
So, this person wasn't bothered about any of the characteristocs of Q102. There may be more like this. How does one combat apathy? Also, many nations are just dying. This is an inter-regional trend, and we can't really combat this. If people just aren't interested in NS, we can't really help that. I figure we should keep pinching ideas from other regions, and we should up recruitment, and welcome people to the boards, in order to build a relationship between the nation and the region. Those be my :2cents: |

Tbh JB I think that anyone who comes here with a open mind and takes the time to looks around will like it, however very few do. Many nations being created seem to be puppet nations etc, and like you said we're suffering from mass die off as people create nations for something to do, come here and never return. This is the sad things about NS, In my opinion its hit its peak now, and now all are suffering. However one thing I have noticed is that if you click on the world option on NS then there is now a section which advertises a different region I presume every day. Does anyone know how we could get Q102's name up there, as that might help? |

I think it's a random selection but I'm not sure. Do we know any game admin that might know? Isn't pythagosaurus a game admin? |

I think it's active. In any case, how much notice do people take of that featured region thing? I would go with trying to encourage individual nations to become more active using telegrams. Maybe even PM or e-mail old members? |

I fear nationstates itself is losing appeal. For starters, its a game that relys on people setting up and making forums to continue it. When you compare it to its other competitors, it looks a bit lacklustre. |

I think NationStates aims for those that aren't seeking the immediate gratification of blowing stuff up etc, but more caters for the academic game-player.
:D haha. Love the BS. :P |

that was just a suggestion tbh, but it hasnt been there for long so perhaps its worth finding out more. as far as contacting new nations, I would like to think that this mentor idea would encourage that. Personally I'm not up for really contacting old nations, just solely because many of them have either left NS or cant be bothered to come to the forums or to continue playing. The way I see it is that if people dont come to the forums, then they will find NS boring as this region isnt a invader/defender, so there's not much to do if you dont get involved in the forums. |

Still though, I think that we'll get a lot of the people that don't like the invader/defender side of the game. That may be a smaller amount, bt we take a larger percentage of that small amount (as there a fewer neutral regions) so we get more new nations out of neutrality than joining the I/D aspect. |

Actual number of nations in NS has not changed, steady at 110,000 to 120,000 ever since the summer. |

Yes, the featured region is random, chosen among regions with at least five members and no password. It does seem to have some affect on nation movement, though whether it has long-lasting effects is up for debate. |

thanks Pythagosaurus. Its a shame theres no way regions can request to be mentioned there. I guess then we just got to carry on recruiting eh? its our own fault in complete honesty, as recruitment grounded to a swift halt, and we didnt recuit for those dying off. |

That's true everywhere. It gets annoying when people put themselves forward for recruiting and never bother. It seems like people think it's done by magic, or something. The thing I find most irrating is when someone says "Oooh! Let's reach <insert number here>!" then does absolutely sod all to attain that, expecting those already recruiting to do it. It's purely bloody laziness, as it's not even a hard task! I mean, how hard is it to, every ten or so minutes, to visit a feeder region and telegram every newly-founded nation in sight. A hand full of clicks, and it's done. But it seems to a be an impossible task to about 90% of the population of NationStates. Christ, it's been said in Europa that it should be a rule that each member of EurGov has to try to recruit two nations a week, ones that actually move to Europa. Easy enough, eh? Apparently not. It seems to need almost Herculean strength to visit a region and send dozen or so telegrams. And on a good day, I can get four or five. Am I some sort of superman? No, I'm just not bloody lazy. I almost single-handedly took Europa from 200 to about 280-odd. You'd have thought that someone else could spare even a quarter of that time to do two or three nations? You'd be hard pushed to find anyone that would. There's this idea permeating amongst those in a region that "recruiting is something done by other people". Oh, they know it's going on, they know it's what's keeping the region alive, but they'll be damned if they did it. |
