Right on CM. Its hard to make a party work with only 3 members, and committing slander was the only way we could get recognised -there has been little oppurtunity in other areas. Plus, I think its hard to challenge the government in parliament when it doesnt get used very often. But we'll bear those points in mind for sure Nev. |

Cool
:) I kind of feel that the opposition could force the use of Parliament as it is the main venue for Citizens to ask the Council what they are up to. That's why I used to do weekly statements there, except very few peeople ever had questions or challenged it (with the notable exception I seem to remember of Leinster) I do agree that the tabloid idea is a nice one but I think that things like using the court for political rp are also good and could add a nice balance to things I thought we could come up with other things as the seem needed? For example what happens if a government member uses their position to advance their party in an unfair way? Currently that i also totally unregulated. Perhaps it too could have a court case and a similar "fun" sentence (lol, they could be forced to advertise the opposition parties in their sig :D ) Personally I am going to remain independant and bug all of you in parties :D If your going to do them it could turn into something quite special if we try :) |

Right first I would just like to say you guys may not have positions in government but thats cos your the opposition! The conservatives dont have places in labours government, however theres nothing stopping you from appointing yourselves a leader, Deputy leader, shadow Foreign Affairs. I think the idea of the opposition is for example, you to kick my butt, either in parliament or in my office, or in your party thread if I dont meet the quota for recruitment, or if Leinster doesnt produce the update sheet. A oppositin party for me is meant to act as the voice of the people, the 'what if's and but's' of politics. I am saddened to see the parties slagged of like this. I think that overall, parties are good for Q102 however yes I think now is the time to call for formality. I think we should create the law nev has propsed in parliament (btw which is being used, Free Port, election of jugdes etc) I also think we need PC to formalise the PPP by stating who is his deputy, security minister and so one. We also need him to state what HIS policies are now nev has left. We need to same from the UOC, whos your leader? we presume its lamedud? Also yes you stated those policies but why not make a thread where you invite political debate. Why not elaborate on these so people have something to come back and ask. I am not having a go at any one here. You all know I have enjoyed and continue to enjoy the RP, but lets also attend to serious policies, and keep the threads where accusations are made as well. Afterall, they will add character to Q102 but politics isnt just about characters, its about policies, something we must include! |

Urmm OK we'll get onto it. I was meaning to call a leadership election - but since we've only got 3 and a half members I didn't see much point. Do you want one JB and CM? Other than that I'll set up a thread now for criticisms.. |

Shadow positions are interestin, but if we were to get in we would, presumably, be appointing some members of the PPP to council positions because of their extensive experience. Zak for example. And we don't have enough members to fill the positions anyway! But it could be fun. And it'd make us feel important and we could put it in our signatures. And I definately agree with Zak, both areas of politics are needed, the fun and the serious politics, and I'm glad it seems to be working out that way. I think this could get really interesting now. The tabloid papers are very funny. :P |

It would help with holding to account and also does raise the possiblity of coalitions should we want to. We could once parties are up and running move to a proportionally elected council as well as electing the delegate. |

Also, shadow councillors would mean the option of present ministers debating specific issues with shadow ministers, and the two could lead discussions on issues in their field. What' more, if they were encouraged to take opposing views (unless, obviously, the opposing view was illogical or unarguable) there would be more structured political debate that could really make a difference in elections. I am very much for shadow positions. If other UOC members agree, should we discuss in our forum what positions we wish to hold? |

Yeh as far as shawdow councillors go I was thinking about in RL parliaments. Where the shadow 'x' comments on the actions of the 'x' minister. yes they could also debate things etc etc. it wouldnt require the UOC to sign up members of the PPP, the idea is that you hold us to account. You come into parliament and kick off at us (sorry to do this, but abit like nev is now
;) ) I didnt mean to lash the parties in my last post, but I do feel so much more could be done with politics in Q102 ;) |

Well I think that is coming into effect now Zak and parties are becoming more important. In the GRA for example, party discussions provide most of their forum activity. I'm not suggesting this for Q102 as our RL/rant forums and roleplays are fantastic! :D But I see political parties becoming more prominent. |

This "dark side" of yours is just dark and gloomy, and it smells funny too :P (sorry Nev, I can't help quoting Schlock Mercenary. It won't happen again *puppy dog eyes*) |

Lol. I have to say I am enjoying being an independent much more than a government member. Not had so much fun here in a long time. I also think that some excellent points have been made by many Citizens here. I am not going to join a party for the present but I am very happy to see the UOC gearing up to offer real opposition. I also think that in finally finding a true role for the court a lot of my concerns are rapidly being answered. I commend my fellow citizens of both parties for their answers and efforts in response to my rant! |

Thankyou Nev, and I do think your ranting has helped accelerate things. If we win an election our name will be a bit superfluous though! :P Maybe it could be considered ironic. :D |
