A warm current would help Borealium as well (looks like it'd be the same one) because it'd give us enough humidity and rainfall for all the agriculture we'd need - not to mention the winter snow we're supposed to be famous for.

In a country like Borealium, most of the prevailing winds come from the cold air from the interior (which also happens to have highlands in our case) which means cold winters. But during the summer, the same air (though chilled by altitude) is generally hotter than what would come off the ocean.

Yeah, I've thought too much about these things, as you can tell...

Thank you for that info! That helps a lot, as i now can make the southern parts of the Isle of Sapphry warmer and leave your part of the map cold. (I understood you liked it this way, if not please tell me! ) Peachy'll get better weather also, as does Rhino Island.
The northern part of the Islan of Sapphry will be cold due to a cold current and generaly being too far north for good climate ;)
Is that ok for everybody or did i miss something? Don't hesitate to tell! ;)
Oh and while we are at it, we might as well give all those currents names... ^_^

Foreign tourists take heart - the average high in July in Freeport (Borealium's largest city, biggest financial and cultural centre, and top international travel destination) is a very comfortable 22 C/72 F. :)

But if cold weather and winter sports is what you prefer, the mountains of the North Country have year-round ski slopes.

OOC: I don't mind the "cold" zone for Borealium, but we do have something resembling a real summer, at least along the coast and in the interior lowlands. I'm almost done with my new national map which hopefully I'll use in RP scenarios soon.

Bringing fabulousness closer

If it's any help I have this vague memory that I put drier areas where I thought there was a rain shadow from big mountains and forest where I thought the rain might be falling on the other side. But not near the top and bottom which I imagined as less hot. I saw the area where Nevareion is as a Meditteranean climate...

Sorry Beaches, I only just remembered this, it was a while ago now.

No problem Nev! I seem remember the rain&mountain rule ,too. Will never forget that particular lesson in school. Teacher was beside himself that day. It was a riot
Well this is the second draft, but i might start from scratch again to make it more coherent. Tell me what you think and what should be improved. I feel like either removing the martine climate from the Isle of Sapphry or make it maritime climate all around the islands.

Lycia City should be in the subarctic/arctic tempurature. (Just pretend it's mountains and not deserts!) Other than that, I see no problem!

j/k, everything is fine.

Grand Atlac took the time to work out a realistic climate model for Q102!
Thanks a lot! Both southern currents are named in his honour :)
This gave me the chance to make a new, more accurate map.
(I see i goofed up and the "Tundra climate text is partly covered. Oh well)

Here is his original explanation of the new climate zones:

Quote:

Tropical (orange): tropical is hot and wet (amazon rainforest, congo, indonesia)

Grasslands/Tropical Grasslands: this was for the places that're nice and warm, but without enough rainfall to make a forest (Great Plains of US, Serengeti of southern Africa)

Marine West Coast: This I'm using to represent lots of cool, wet weather (American Northwest/Vancouver, New Zealand)

Cool Continental: This area gets some rain, has nice, mild summers (eastern Europe/baltic coast, US-Canadian border)

Tundra: These are the cold forests and scrublands of Russia and Canada

deserts: I just left these where you put them and worked everything else to make them exist ;)

Cfb: this is a geographical classification (technically it's about the same as Marine west coast) but I wanted to differentiate between cool wet weather and the warmer, sunnier weather of (what I presume tongue.gif) to be Germany, France, etc. Cfb for my purposes is a nice climate, not too cold, not too warm, not too much rain, while Marine West Coast is a little cooler, a little wetter, and some people complain about all the rain.

Also, these are very general. For example, the entire area of the British Isles would be considered Marine West Coast on a global map, but obviously the climate is different from one area to another. It's just a general thing that can be fudged as the players want (within reason, hopefully...).

What happened to our warm current south of Isle of Sapphry? It disappeared!
