Vimes stepped out of the doorway to someone's shed followed by Thorn and the rest of the Night Watch assigned to this case. He lit up a cigarette and thought about the base of operations Thorn had created for them. It would serve every purpose he could have asked for, though it seemed to have a few too many rooms. Doesn't matter.

"Ok folks, the situation's like this, Silver Dragons have been focusing on this area for the past couple weeks and it's gotten to the point where you can't wipe your ass without bumping into one" he said exhaling smoke. "They're looking for something and they have a telepath blocking their thoughts from Alyssa so we're going to have to do this the hard way and get our hands dirty"

He walked over to the gate to the fence and opened it walking into the driveway between the two small houses. "Keep a low profile" he said continuing to walk through people's back yards as the sun set.

"Don't worry," said Thorn, who noted the fact that a half beast man and a walking American flag definitely drew attention, "As long as we don't do anything out of the ordinary, everyone will think were just another bunch of teenagers." Before they had left, Thorn had cast a ritual to create the illusion which would keep them from attracting attention. Anyone looking at them would see a bunch of non-descript teenagers, and not a group of well versed vigilantes. He was starting to enjoy being part of a group, the headquarters he had set up surely illustrated that point. He had passed out keys to the members of the night watch, simply placing them in a lock would open the portal to the base situated in the Hedge. The main attraction was, besides creating an escape route in any given situation, also fell outside of Silver City jurisdiction. He also felt it was a testimate to his improvement in magic, he couldn't have imagined doing somthing like this when he first started out. Now, it seemed' anything was becoming possible.

"He's good, but he's not subtle. I'll find a way through soon enough, but I need to get closer to him to have any real chance of piercing his defenses," Alyssa commented.

"How can you tell it's a man?" Freedom asked, looking around.

"There are... mental flavors, I guess you would call it," Alyssa replied. "Just trust me. I know it's no female."

"Well all right then," Freedom said. "You're the one with the plan, Ghost. What do we need to look for specifically?"

Vimes stopped to put out his cigarette and exhaled the smoke. Pulling out another and lighting it he said, "Groups of kids and young adults. They'll be dressed like punks, torn up clothes maybe. They'll be shifty, won't really fit in properly. I've noticed they're going up and down a block and a half radius from roughly this point"

He started walking again moving through the small alleyways that are created in suburban areas.

"They're looking for something and I don't think we're going to find it first so we'll just have to try to find it at the same time they do" he said exhaling again, staring down the rottweiler that ran up to defend his yard. "I don't think they'll cause any trouble unless you cause some first. We're going to split up and see what we can pick up. Alyssa's our communications center. Thorn, you're with me. Freedom keep her in good condition and Alyssa tell me immediately if you crack their defenses"

Vimes knelt to the ground and began to pet a large black cat that approached him. "Don't lose your keys to the HQ. If things look too tough find a doorway and use the keys, don't wait for back up"

Not waiting for any acknowledgment from any of them he continued his path and made his way to the street heading east.

"About time they showed up" Mary mumbled staring at the group from her bedroom window.

Thorn kept close to Vime, trying to look inconspicious against the street. Having an illusion up was one thing, acting like he knew how to act like a teenager was another. The fact that he had never been a proper tenager didn't help things much, a social atrophy he feared he might never really overcome. All in all though, he didn't think he was doing to bad, just try and act the way Vimes did. Although from the way Vimes acted most of the time, he couldn't help but think that he hadn't had a normal teenage upbringing either. He glance around the alley, looking up to make sure nothing dropped in from above, as sometimes happened.

"So..."

"So?"

"I guess we start walking," Freedom said after a pause. "Mental flavors?"

"It's impossible to explain to someone who isn't telepathic," Alyssa replied. "It would belike trying to explain what colors are to someone without the ability to see."

"Er..."

"Just go with it."

The two walked in silence for a while, Freedom taking Alyssa's arm and leading her along as she focused on finding the blocker and cloaking Freedom's appearance to the minds of passers by. They meandered around, staying more or less in a two block radius of their starting point, until Alyssa stopped and laughed. "Found him," she said, mentally calling the others and giving them the location. "We have to hurry; he'll probably get suspicious when he realizes I'm not probing his defenses anymore."

Vimes was moving quickly through backyards and driveways, rarely keeping to the street unless he needed to. It was habit for him. He didn't really like Thorn using magic like this, illusions and such. He didn't trust it, but he did trust Thorn. As much as he trusted anyone. Without looking he punted a small terrier into the shallow end of a swimming pool. He stopped suddenly when he felt the tell tale itching behind his eyes that meant someone was trying to read his mind, a trick he had picked up on since meeting Alyssa. He threw up images of the most terrifying things he had ever seen and tried to throw the fear and disgust they had created in him at the time in there too but knew the telepath had already located them if nothing else.

"We're going to have company real soon. Something tipped the telepath off about us" Vimes said moving out of the yards and into the streets, at this time of night it wasn't likely that there were many civilians out and about. He spotted three groups of Silver Dragons, about three or four people a piece moving nonchalantly towards them.

"We have three groups, one at twelve, one at three and one at six. I give em five more seconds before they group at three crosses the street and joins group six" Vimes said lighting another cigarette. As he predicted, though maybe a few seconds off give or take, group three did just that. Without another word Vimes charged group twelve which had four Silver Dragons to it. He slammed his knee into the crouch of the largest one, planting his fist into the throat of another and twisting to avoid his chest being ripped open by the claws another produced, his skin becoming scaly and his eyes reptilian.

"Yu'd think they'd learn every once in a while," said Thorn. He decided to save his more potent spells for when they needed it. With barely a thought, he fired off silvery missiles of force into the group 3 aiming at vitals. One cracked against the skull of one of the men, knocking him off his feet where he went linp as the blow rattled him from conciousness. The others cried out as they were battered with the attack, and turned their attention towards Thorn, charging him. Group six, seeing the two heroes, followed suit. "That's right," said Thorn to himself, "Charge right in," shifting his position so that as they approached, it put them inbetween the nearest wall. By now, what was left of group 3 had charged up, one producing some form of energy sword, while the other was starting to grow spikes out of his skin. As they dived, Thorn raised his hand, his middle finger and thumb together, and snapped his finger. A shockwave of sound exploded from his fingers, lifting the two out of the air and sending them crashing against the wall. The energy swords man crashed to the ground, while the man with the spikes stuclk, his spikes in his back embeded in the wall. Both were knocked for a loop, either unconcious, or too disoriented to fight for the moment. Group six was now approaching, he looked to Vimes to see how he was handling himself. Just to be sure, he aimed carefully and fired a silver missile into the head of the one going reptilian, they were still out numbered, but nor outclassed.
