Jeremy looked out the window of the private jet the Silver Shield was letting them use at the mountains below them. They would be landing near where Savant thought the landing site was in a few minutes and then would travel deeper into the mountain range to see if they could find the alien crafts. "You're sure you know how to land this thing?" Savant said. "Maybe I should take over" "Your worries are unfounded Savant. I know exactly how to fly this plane and am not in need of a co-pilot" Legion said. "We'll be landing in just a few minutes so buckle up" the other Legion said. |

"I hate flying" groaned Mouse for the umpteenth, feeling an empty stomach ready to yet again empty it's contents. He swore he would walk back, or take a ship, anything to keep two feet on solid, steady ground. His pallor seemed to have changed a few shades lighter despite his fur. It was bad enough he was a walking portable electrical device, but dealing with motion sickness AND trying to keep himself from sparking, this was not his day. "I hope someone thought to bring a tranquilizer gun," he said, seriously planning on darting himself for the return trip. |

"I can make you an air sickness bag if you want!" Splortch said happily from the mouth he formed on the seat in front of Mouse. "That is by far the most disgusting thing you have ever done in my presence," Spider said, rubbing her temples. "I'M disgusting? At least my species doesn't waste nutrients by ingesting them and then disgorging them before digestion can fully take place." "Splortch," Garrett said, "Shut up. Please. Just for the next ten minutes. I appreciate your willingness to be the plane, thus saving me the trouble of requisitioning one, but your commentary is getting a little annoying." "Oh fine," Splortch grumbled. Soon the plane began its descent, and Splortch could be head in the cockpit. "Watch how you pull on my controls, Legion. I might get the wrong idea." Garrett sighed and rub bed his eyes. For an asexual creature, Splortch picked up on sexual innuendo a little too readily... |

They landed and were softly ejected from Splorch as he returned to his vaguely human form. There were about three police officers waiting for them at the landing strip. "Morning, I'm Sheriff Dan Summers. These are deputies Rogers and Phillips" the tall heavy set man said motioning towards the two smaller men. "We don't know much about why you're here, your superiors weren't very specific so we couldn't ask any questions to brief you on the situation. We figure it has something to do with the weird lights and sounds we've been seeing up in the mountains. It's really got the animals spooked" Jeremy adjusted his belt and armor while watching the officers. They seemed like good men interested in helping out anyway they could. Still, he wished Arthur were here to help out but he had been suspended from duty again for a fight with the Jolly Green Giant. Which is also why Giant wasn't on this mission. Savant stared angrily at the officers through her helmet. These people thought they could help but they didn't even know what was going on, they didn't even know what Splortch was. They probably thought they were all freaks anyway. They were wasting valuable time talking to these peons. Legion watched the interactions carefully. It always paid to have an idea of someone that could be a potential threat. He made a mental note to send a double off to follow these guys around and keep an eye on them. He was sure Garrett wouldn't mind, but it would probably be best not to let him know anyway. |

"Poor saps," Splortch said in an aside to Spider. "With names like that they'd be the first to be eaten by the monster if this was a horror movie." Spider replied by punching Splortch in the shoulder, only to grimace as her fist sank into the alien's body like it was hair gel. "Ewwwwwww," She groaned, pulling her hand out and shaking it off. "It's like shoving your hand into a bowl of warm jello..." "You're Welcome!" Splortch said happily before Garrett shushed them both. "Thank's for the greet, Sheriff," Garrett said. "HQ believes this is just some supervillain wanna-be, so we're using the opportunity to give the kids some field experience. Shouldn't be any problems, but just for safety's sake you're gonna want to evacuate anyone who might be in the area." The Sheriff nodded and motioned to his deputies. "You heard 'im boys," he said. "Let's get the word out for people to stay clear. Last thing I want to do is fill out the paperwork for some dumb kids getting hurt in a super fight." As the sheriff and his deputies climbed into their car and drove away, Garrett turned to the SSTC. "All right soldiers. Now that we've got the local authorities satisfied we need to get to the crash site; I remind you that this is a peaceful mission and there is to be no violence except in self defense. Have I made myself clear or do I have to regress to shapes and colors to explain it to you?" |

"I don't think anyones making any promises," remarked Mouse, having noticed that whenever someone wanted something done peacefully, it usually meant that something was going to try and kill them. He looked out into the distance to where supposedly the crash site would be. "Please, for once, let it be a water themed bad guy." he said, more to himself then anyone else. |

"Whatever. I'm going to make sure the deputies don't pull anything; I got a bad feeling about one of them." "No," Garrett said, closing his eyes and grabbing Avenger's shoulder. "One, you are on suspension and shouldn't be here at all. Two, you have no authority to pull surveillance without evidence other than your gut feelings. Three, if you want to get out of this without digging your hole deeper than it already is you will follow my orders to the letter. Am I clear?" "Crystal," Avenger said, rolling his eyes as he dropped his invisibility. "Splortch?" Garrett said, turning to the blue alien. "Humvee. Open top, truck bed." The SSTC piled into Splortch and drove off into the desert, towards the crash site. |

As they headed deeper into the woods around the mountain toward where Savant's instruments said the ships should have landed. As they drove along Legion sat on the edge of the bed and let three copies fall off the back of Splortch to run off to keep an eye on the Sheriff and his deputies. Savant directed Splortch where to go following her instruments. "It heads off the road here. I suggest we continue on foot" Savant said when Splortch came to a stop. "That might be a good idea. If we head in on foot they probably won't think we're hostile" Jeremy said. "We aren't?" Legion asked. |

"Given our track record?" said Mouse, stretching out to improve his flexability before getting out, "It's never that easy." He had a feeling that these guys were as peaceful as Legion was cuddly. Still, there was now way to prove this, so he stowed it away for the time he would be able to say 'told you so' and began walking in line with the rest of the group, hoping that whatever came there way would not pass through a bullet proof uniform. |

As the group traveled through the woods they were surprisingly quiet considering the size of the group. It took a good half an hour of hiking to get to the crash site and it was surprisingly difficult to find. Not that many trees had been uprooted and the ground wasn't very torn up. Two ships were in the clearing that had been created by the crash, on was small and could possible hold four people and appeared to have crashed shortly after the landing it's landing gear giving way. The other however might be able to hold up to half a dozen passengers and obviously had no trouble landing. At the bottom of the landing platform stood someone in a suit that almost resembled Mid-evil armor but sleeker and tighter to the body with a large device at it's side. The group approached slowly trying to be even more quiet than before when Jeremy made the wrong move and snapped a twig. They all stared at him for a few moments holding their breaths. Hoping it was unheard, when a laser blast tore into the ground near Jeremy's foot. Jeremy looked up to see the creature holding the device like a rifle aimed directly at him, everything moved in slow motion as another bolt of energy shot from it and Jeremy summoned Excalibur and smacked the bolt aside. The ship hummed as the engines turned on and openings appeared on the hull, forward guns from the openings. "Let's move people" Jeremy said taking off towards the ship. |

"Don't kill them!" Garrett shouted as the team leapt into action. An alarm was sounded, and another alien emerged from the ship after a moment, opening fire as well. Manifesting Sentinel, he charged forward and absorbed their fire while the SSTC followed behind him. Just before he reached the first of the aliens, the other fell into a hole that materialized under his feet; there was a scream, the sizzling pop of shorting electronics, and a small fountain of brownish blood erupted from the hole. Garrett engaged the first alien, only to have the alien grab his arm and use his forward momentum to throw Garrett into the side of the ship with enough force to knock him senseless for a moment. Spider engaged shortly after him, her speed and reflexes fast enough to easily evade the alien's blows until the alien hit a button on the side of its rifle. The barrel shrank and extended an energy blade, and suddenly Spider was on the defensive. Garrett recovered and turned to help Spider, but he was beaten to the punch as Splortch leapt from the hole in the ground and covered the alien. Within seconds Splortch had found an opening and forced himself inside the armor; the alien began to scream and jerk as Splortch devoured the alien within his own suit. "Splortch!" Garrett shouted. "Stand Down! NOW!!" Splortch ignored him, continuing to eat until the alien was completely gone, filling out the armor with his own body. "They're Shegath," he said finally. "There is no word for diplomacy in their language. They are a race of murderers and conquerors, and no one, not you, not Archer, not Sentinel, not your whole damned planet will stop me from giving them back what they gave to my people." Garrett was taken aback by the sudden hatred in the usually mellow alien. "All right then. Be prepared. I think they might have more around somewhere." |

Typical, thought Mouse, bounding up as he caught sight of another alien raising it's blaster to take aim, charging himself he shot at it, knocking the gun to one side as he tried to take a shot at Splorch. Taking it in stride the alien drew his own energy blade to take a swing at Mouse, but the blow fell short as Mouse's tail wrapped around it's arm, a sudden jolt of electricity forcing it's muscles to contract as Mouse jump kicked it in the chest, the vicious spark that leaped from his foot indicating the high voltage he was letting off. The alien staggered back slightly, but seemed unfazed by the charge. Mouse ventured a guess that the material was non conductive. That made things difficult. The alien came at him again, swinging the blade at him multiple times while Mouse used his speed to side step and dodge the blows, counterstriking with swift blows to exposed areas of his suit, sending minute shocks into his system to disorient his opponent further. He wondered how much it was going to take to take this guy out. Then the alien made a move he hadn't expected. It droped it, s blaster as he came in for another strike, and used his free hand to grab Mouse by his shirt, hauling him off his feet and into the air as it perpared to finish him off. Almost frantically, Mouse's tail shot out on instinct, wrapping itself around the creatures head to blind it and momentarily keep it from aiming for him with the blade. As sense returned, Mouse sent as large a charge he could through his tail, and through the creatures thick skull. Hopefully a large charge to the things brain would have an effect. The thing convulsed once as it's neurons were overloaded, releasing it's grip on Mouse as it slumped to the ground, pinning mouses tail under it. Mouse pulled his tail free, panting from exertion. Hopefully it would stay down for a while. He turned and rejoined the group, "I told you, we're never that lucky." he said.

Legion split into a recon group and scoured the nearby area. "No more of them Copycat" Legion said absorbing his clones, sending the last to investigate the ship. "They obviously aren't peaceful" "No and their technology is far and beyond anything I've seen and almost beyond anything I've thought of" Savant said staring at one of their weapons slowly taking it apart. "This actually contains plasma, super heated molecules, the fourth state of matter. Directs it and shapes it. It's fascinating" "It's dangerous" Jeremy said studying the hole in the ground. Legion screamed out as lasers cut him to pieces as the stepped on to the ship. Suddenly the hatch closed and warning sirens began to blare and speaking in a language that no one recognized. Hatches opened on several points on the ship and the equivalent of .50 caliber cannons were produced and opened fire on the group. Legion jumped to the side as it fired at him, the blast searing his leg clean off and the resulting explosion sending him flying through the air into a tree. Savant was in motion the moment the sirens began going off and was barely dodging the fire while returning some of her own though it didn't seem to be doing much of anything. On reflex Jeremy dove behind a tree but was thrown into another as a blast destroyed his hiding place. With a flourish Jeremy drew Excalibur and interposed it between himself and the next blast, reflecting it back into the ship causing evident damage and again throwing Jeremy through the air but leaving him seemingly unharmed. |

Mouse charged himself as a blast came his way, increasing his speed to avoid losing a linb the way that Legion, or at least one of the Legions, had. There was no way he was getting close to that, not with lasers going at it. The best he could do is try firing a lightning bolt at it, but he doubted that something with a hull designed to transverse worlds would have any trouble soaking up the juice he put into it. Still, he wasn't completely useless. "Hurry up and shut them down!" he yelled, darting to the front where the automated defenses would focus on him, and moving away, darwing the fire to give the others a chance to take it out. He would only be able to keep up his speed for a short time, so he hoped the others had a plan, or made one fast. |

"Jeremy! Legion! Mouse! Take cover!" Garrett shouted, taking a grazing shot from a plasma bolt and tumbling to the side, silently thanking whoever might be listening that he was still using Sentinel's powers. "Savant! Analyze and assess for weaknesses! Spider and Splortch! Catapult! See if these aliens were stupid enough to build turrets that can shoot at each other or at the ship itself!" Spider and Splortch were on the move instantly, Splortch assuming the form of a large catapult and Spider hopping into the basket before being fired into the air towards the ship. Garrett was right after her, manifesting Spider's powers as well as Sentinel's. The two landed on the ship's exterior, and unfortunately found that the aliens were much more inteligent about their designs than most earth villains. The turrets had exceptional range of fire, but they could not fire upon the ship itself and were spaced too far apart along the curve of the hull to hit one another. Not wanting to risk his team anymore than he had to, Garrett ordered Spider to find a blind spot where the turrets couldn't fire on her and then proceeded to rip one of the guns out of its moorings. Down below, Splortch was busy skirting the fire pattern and ingesting the power packs from the Shegath weapons and armor. As soon as he had them, he burrowed into the ground and popped up next to Legion. "Point and shoot!" he said happily, transforming into a ground-mounted turret much like the guns on the ship. |
