Vimes could feel the power of the nothing close in on his mind. It wanted him to stay put. It didn't want him to leave. "I thought I could return your property to you Wrodon. In exchange for something of course" Vimes said. This echo was powerful, he was terrified to meet the real thing. "One of the others, let them go and you get to keep Kevin" "A child for a child? That seems to be a fair trade" the whimsical voice rang out. "But what would a ghost, a devil, a monkey, a monster and a tin man know of fair trade?" "Not a lot" Vimes said quietly as he threw the pipe at the embodiment of nothing. It seared through the creature and a noise like nothing he had ever even thought of in his dreams ripped through his mind. Vimes ignore it as best he could and grabbed Thorn and the key. "Come on we need to get out of here now!" He ran up to the others still dragging Thorn, who was most likely in shock. "Devil, make a shield or something for us. Tobor, go as fast as you can in any direction I don't care!" Vimes yelled the orders. He didn't have time for arguments. |

As the Echo screamed in pain, Thorn suddenly gasped for air as the hold on him was released, even as he was dragged back by Vimes, he felt weak in the knees, as if he hadn't even able to breath while Wrodons shadow had that hold on him. It wasn't over, he knew, while his name was in Wrodons domain, all the shadow had to do was call it and he could make him do anything. Vimes was right, they had to get out NOW. "The exit." he said weakly, pointing back to the archway from which they had come. Lil Dev acted as fast as she could trowing up a barrier between them and Wrodon as the iron pipe clattered to the floor after a gaping hole was left in the center of the thing. The echoclutched at the wouln, as the vines that covered it wreathed inward, stretching through it's insides as if weaving new flesh. "You dare bring that foul substance in MY domain?" it's voice said, a tone of annoyance in it's voice that seemed to move the world. In fact it was moving. The substance of the realm shifted under foot, and a lance of pure notingness shot from the floor, piercing through Dev's barrier as if it was paper, the energy cracking like glass. Dev could see this thing would only last as long as the thing wanted it, and hastily made a retreat, throwing up another, just in case it could by them a few more seconds... |

As the group fled back through the door, the return to reality(or as close as they were getting at this point) shot through their systems like a bright light, but even then there was no time to let such things delay them. Already, Titan slammed the door shut behind them, while Carlos pushed on the the large statues, sliding it across the ground until it was proped against the door. "You really think that's going to stop him?" Said Dev cynically. "Eh, couldn't hurt." said Carlos, although even he was starting to admit this was no time for monkey shines. A ringing boom indicated it was time to leave, as the doors bulged on their seams. Quickly the fled back into the stain glass hall, which was allive with motion. The widow figures were now alive with motion, the focues light of the suns now becoming bright and hot, becoming as seering lasers. The figures were moving in on the goup, thier lights blazing a trail as it melted glass and frame, causing gaps in the landscape which gave way to the endless sky below. |

Not stopping to look back, the team moved onward. By now Thorn had recovered enough to start going on the ofensive once more. He didn't have it in him at the moment for a particularly complex spell, but he was by no means helpless. He raised a hand as he internally chanted the spell, and a silvery ball shot off at the nearest stain glass figure, smashing through it, the pieces falling to the ground as the beam of light that had projected from it faded, halting the trail of molten glass and metal. Lil Dev followed suit, launching a magical offensive against the approaching fae born forces. Carlos was on Tobors head, "Move you butt shiney man," he said, moving from sholder to shoulder as if he could find the switch that made the robot go. The robot, being a walking bane to fae power, was probably the best weapon they had at the moment. |

"Keep the doors open," Tobor said, grabbing the monkey and tossing it to Vimes. Raising one fist above his head, Tobor brought it down on the strange framework of the floor with all the strength his servos could manage. The silver and glass screamed like a living creature in its death throes and splintered apart under the feet of the approaching forces. More screams accompanied that of the floor as fae began falling through the widening holes into the blackness below. "Brace yourselves," Tobor said as the floor began to disintegrate quickly towards his comrades. He turned on his thrusters and flew towards them, gathering them all up in his arms and flying through the closing door. Twisting in midair, Tobor placed his body between his comrades and the door, and the doors screamed in pain as his iron body burst their edges apart like so much rotted wood. "We need to get out of here, and quickly," Tobor said, lifting Vimes up and opening the large compartment in his chest cavity. "It will be cramped in there, but you will perhaps be safer there than out here." |

The garden was reacting to the commotion, plants that had once been stationary furled and unfurled like claws, what had once been a landscape now seemed like a living animal breathing and watching the goup as they prepared themselves for the final hurtle of their quest. "You think this would be that easy?" came the voice of the echo, as the vines of the garden twisted together, a shape rising out of it like some horror movie swamp creature as the features took shape of the recognizable image of Wrodon. "The garden has been without it's watch dog for far too long," said the echo, the expression on it's face part supressed anger and part amusement, "Kevin, tend it once more." it commanded. Thorn felt what was like a spear through him, the command twisting his reality as Wrodon's will washed over him like an ocean storm. Tot he observer, his eyes went blank and soulless, before reality peeled back and shifted around him. The form that began manifesting was nothing like the Thorn the others had come to know, the stange half man, half creature was gone, and in it's place a monster loomed, a dragon sized creature like a lion, vines and roses interwoven with long fur, claws and teeth ivory white. A testimate to Wrodon's twisted sense of art, the creature he had made Thorn into was indeed beautiful, but at the same time horrible and savage, and it was obvious to see now just how much humanity Thorn had to regain upon his escape. Thorn growled, a feral roar building in his throat, bvefore pouncing at the group, the Echo chuckling in an amused tone as Carlos Dev, and Titan scatter to avoid being caught under massive clawed paws. |

"Find cover," Tobor said, setting Vimes on the ground. "I have a idea." Tobor flew out of reach of Thorn-turned-lion-monster and faced the echo. "Most people would simply explain that the payment was not sufficient and ask for more instead of this fanciful parade," Tobor said in a mocking tone. "But I have come to make you an offer. The dreams of a lifeless being for the name of your guard dog." The echo laughed, then stopped and looked suspiciously at Tobor. "This is some kind of trick," it asked, "isn't it?" "Yes," Tobor admitted. "But every deal with a fae is a trick, so what does it matter? I should think that the dreams of a lifeless being are rare enough that they are more than worth the name of your gardener." |

The Echo considered this for a moment, the tendrils of plants shifting as though passed across it's face, "I must admit I am intrigued, though I would reguire proof that one such as you can in fact dream. But really, this is besides the point." it said, lashing out a hand that grew to encompass Tabor, only for a burning smell to eminate, before it hissed in pain and tossed, tabor away, examining the damage done to his hand, "Foul iron beast." it said, ralizing that Tabor was a walking poison to him. Dev moved in on Tabor, "It's a shadow," she said, realizing what plan the Robot was intending, "It cannot enact new deals, only manipulate those already in place." Suddenly the thought hit her, "I need the key!" she shouted to Vimes, hoping he had not been jarred by the attack. Once she had obtained it, she nodded towards the Echo, "Keep it busy, make it made, hurt it, whatever, just keep it's focus off of us." That would be a challange, but one that the robot was specifically designed for, after all, what better to keep somethings attention then an attacker made of the very substance that hurts it the most? Little Dev ran towards Thorn, who was chasing down Calos and Titan, who could do little to keep from being knocked around like a cats toy against Thorns paws. "HEY KEVIN! OVER HERE!" She said, begining to concentrate. Thorns name had power in Fae hands, even though they had it physically, the echo was still able to control him through it. Since the echo was essentially part of this real, and Wrodon was away, it meant that it was the lands power that was channeling it at the moment. Thorn responded instantly to the name, though less effective here, it was definatly enough to draw his attention. Growling the Thorn- monster stalked towards Dev. Dev thought she may have called him a bit too soon as she chanted her magic, trying to make a connection. Thorn wasn't waiting though, moving forward to pounce at her, only to suddenly fall back as Titan latched himslef onto his tail, pulling hard with Carlos in tow, keeping the crature from taking a bite out of Dev. It was enoguh to give Dev the time she needed. Fae power was not magic, it was beyond it, but even so, it was power, and here it was abundant, all Dev could do was funnel a fraction of it into the proper conduit. The key glowed, and Dev gave the command, "Kevin Ross, SIT!" she said. Instantly Thorn responded, dropping onto his hind quarters, causing Carlos and Titan to fly back as slack came their way. Dev felt drained, Fae power was not compatable with magic, even the smallest attempt to control it was exhausting. She only hoped Thorn still had access to his abilities in this form. Quickly she moved, climbing onto Thorns back. Carlos and Titan followed suit, "Kevin, open the gate to the Hedge." she said, and Thorn stood, moving towards the garden, heading towards the area they first came in. She only hoped that Tabor and Vimes could hold off the Echo long enough for them to make their exit... |

Thorn approached the pool, pausing slightly as if in hesitation. The Echo, preoccupied with the moving heap of fae-bane causing him great annoyance, had not yet noticed as th beast dipped a paw into the water, it's wait suddenly supported as it sifted it's weight more fully as it supported him. The watter rippled, small droplets rising into the air as Thorn padded to the center. Dev noticed te difference in the portal formation, which she attributed to the differences in the laws of reality in this place, rather then a simple doorway, the gateway to the hedge was forming around them, the water seeming to disolve away the wall of reality, as droplets left streaks that overlayed this ream with that of the more familiar, though just as alien realm that lay beyond it. She trusted Tobor to follow when he was done fighting the Echo, it was obvious that the being could do little agianst the man of iron, as everything it hurled at the robot crumbled, withered, and dried up as soon as it came in contact with his metalic skin. Then there was a rush, as water cascaded upwards around them, and Dev, Carlos and Titan felt reality wash away from them, a sensation that left them tingling for hours after. It had an even more pronounced effect on Torn, as the beastial guise he was under melted away like paint and terpentine, leaving Thorn once more in the form they had come to know, as the hedge washed in around them, settling like a pool of water. Carlos shook his coat, causing a fey droplets of reality to sprey into the air before vanishing like stardust. "AGAIN!" he cried exuberantly, once more taking on the happy go lucky guise he had suppressed in the face of almost certain death. Thorn collapsed onto the path they now stood upon, coughing up what appeared to be small parts of the fae realm, the last remnants of the powers that had overtook him. |

Vimes continued to throw what little iron items he had brought with him at the Echo while trying his hardest to hold onto Tobor. "Dammit tin man can't you stay still for a moment!" Vimes yelled almost losing his grip. "You dare bring poison to my realm?! You will forever hold my hatred mortal!" the Echo screamed as it continued to try to attack Vimes through Tobor. "Blow it out your ass!" Vimes yelled leaping from Tobor's shoulders into the portal Thorn had created. He flew downward towards the portal and then found himself flying horizontally through the air and into Little Devil. They tumbled for a few moments before coming to a stop with Dev straddling Vimes' waist. "Why Dev, I didn't know you cared" Vimes mumbled his head still spinning. |

"In your dreams," said Lil Devil, soft shoving Vimes off of her in a playful manner. Thorn was just about through, hacking up the last slivers of the fae reality, feeling both naseous, and dizzy from the experiance, though at the same time the was a flutting lightness that had nothing to do with the uneasiness of his body. It felt like something had been lifted from him, realizing as the memories of the past few moments relived themselves in his mind, they had done it. Against impossible odds, they had managed it. He was free. The hedge was already reacting to the the relief of the group, curling back slightly as if to give the group brathing room. The emination of bird song and the smell of wild orchids seemed to start eminating from all around, giving the place an almost tranquil feeling. "Right," said Titan, noticing the change, "Can we go home now? I've had enough of this crap." Carlos did not sit still very long, leaping to the thorns and climbing vigorously about. Thorn rose to his feet, wiping him mouth as he turned to the others, "The key?" he asked, hoping now that it was out of the faes realm, that it no longer held the same kind of power over him. Dev held it up. It seemed much more fragile here, the power that had kept in in existance was now litterally a world away, it seemed ready to fall apart at any moment. Dev offered it, and Thorn carefully took it up. In his hands it shattered into sparkling dust and smoke leaving a light hovering before them. Then there was a rumble, and the group had to step back as the ground literally moved underfoot. The entire realm seemed to be shaking. The Thorns about them curled and slithered like snakes, moving in and entering the light, covering it and moving in faster then the others could register. Light from above started streaming down as the maze of thorns dragged itself out of the ground and condensed itself into this one point. The Realm was opening up before their eyes, and for a moment they saw the entire expance of the Hedge, from the mountain of Thorns to the distant edge where the limits of the realm dropped into non existance. Only for a moment. The realm suddenly surged outward, the limits that had once held it vanishing as the land stretched out into a proper horizon, the land shifting an changing like a butterfly free from it's cacoon and spreading it's wings for the first time, and the group saw forests, oceans, mountian ranges spring into existance like imagination run wild, dreams come to life, nightmares given form, an instance of creation. And then it was still, they stood at the epicenter of an explosion of creation, amid a small patch of fruit trees. "What the hell just happened," questioned Titan, stareing at the extent of the change to the landscape. Thorn stared at where the key had once been in his hand, where all the Thorns had twisted and condensed. There, now so mundane looking it was hard to believe, a staff stood embeded in the ground, made of wood in the head embedded a single stone of black opal that glinted ocationally with briliant reds and greens. A voice then rang out above their heads, so simple and childish it took them by surprise after all that had happened. "It's about time!" They looked up to see a woman with strawberry blond hair and peach coloered clothes sitting in the branches of the trees, kicking her legs up rythmiclly as she watched. "Fancy Anne." murmered Thorn, recalling the witch and the initial help she had given him. |

"You again?" Vimes said out loud. "Is the giant lizard far behind? I'm curious to see if he's still upset about the pipe in his eye" Vimes lit a cigarette and walked calmly over to Thorn. He looked different. Less like an easy target and more like a big cat resting. It was a noticeable change that Vimes approved of. "I'm going to start charging you for those pipes" Vimes said smoke drifting through the slits in his mask that gave it the appearance of a skulls teeth. "Those things are getting expensive" |

Fancy Anne, giggled, pushing herself lightly off the branch where she floated down, touching down softly among the group, "Malek sends his reguards... Oh!" she said, before walking up to Carlos and in an swift action, scooped him up, "AWWW, CUTIE!" he said, squeezing the monkey tightly as she giggled like a schoolgirl, "HELP, SHE'S CRUSHING ME!" squeeled Carlos, though it was obvious from his less then half harted attempts at freedom that he was enjoying it more then Anne. "Anyway." said Anne, dropping him as abruptly as she had picked him up and turning a more serious face towards the group. "I'm glad to see you came through this, we were afraid this world may have come to an end prematurly." she said addressing Thorn in particular, "See, if you had become enslaved once more, the Hedge would have faded away back into nothingness. Strange really, the Fae have powers beyond nearly any being you can think of in multiple dimensions, but never before has one managed to create a true seed of a world, even if it was unwittingly." "Wait, what now?" said Titan, feeling as if he had missed something. "I believe she is saying that when Wrodon create Thorn, he somehow..." she tried to think of a way to explain it, "Germinated...? Seeded...? Whatever it was, he put into motion the creation of the Hedge." She thought it was as accurate she was going to get with what little she had pieced together. "More or less," said Anne, "What is important now is that the Hedge is now sustaining itself, what was binding it's growth has been removed. What you have witnessed today is the birth of a new world. Congradulations, I'm so happy for you." She smiled innocently, as if somehow Thorn was now a father. "Uhhh, thanks?" said Thorn, unsure of how to take this news and what it meant for his future. He stepped to the staff, "So, what now?" he asked, wondering the significance. "Now?" questioned Anne, putting her finger to her lip in contemplation looking into space, "A hot bath and a soft bed seem like a good idea after a day of meddling in cosmic forces beyound your imaginings." she said, as if this sort of thing happened every day. Thorn thought on it, deciding she was right, but all the same, he put his hand on the staff, and lifted it from the ground. He waited to see if something would happen, after the events of the day he almost expected it to explode into light, or at the least, glow. But it seemed just a staff, though the tingling feelinging he got from holding it told him it was definatly more then that. It was a good tingle though, warm, inviting, and if felt somehow, right for him. |

Elsewhere, beyond the realms of man, beyond the Hedge, Lord Wrodon returned from the gathering of Noble Fae, his mood quite foul from the days activities that he had been away from, surveying the damage done to his garden. His eyes narrowed into slits of anger as he approached the scored patches of eath where the metal burned his creations, leaving nothing but chared and blacked dust. As his anger intensified, the air around the metal writhed and twisted, as reality was ripped asunder, propelling the poison out of his realm. Where it went, he did not care. The ragged edges of reality rippled like a ribbon in the storn, lacing togeter, though what was left behind was torn apart from the metaphysical impossability that had just occured. "Now now Wrodon," came the chime of a female, "No need to damage your lovlies further." Liliths eyes materialized before the rest of her, glinting a glowing green as she sat upon the bow of a tree. A almost sinister grin was on her face, "You lost our little wager, it is only fair I claim my prize now." she said. Wrodon glared at Lilith. He was no fool, he already knew she had orcastrated this, twisted the circumstances, but in no way had she actually gone out of the lines of their bet, so his hands were tied. "I should be angry," he said, his mood suddenly turning as he reviewed what had happened. "Never before has one of my pets willed itself out of my grasp." As it contnued an intrigued expression came across it's face. "All well and good Wrodon, too bad you didn't get to keep it." Retorted Lilith, "My prize." she commanded. Wrodon didn't move. All the same a plant bloomed out of the ground, rapidly growing up and out. A feeling of current moved and condensed in the air, the color of the realm faded slightly, focusing into a single point of light, a miniture star. The plant, reaching it's height, produced a single fowering blossum, fully open, which closed around the light, containing it and cutting it off, before the flower broke from the vine, floating into the outstretched hand of Lilith. Lilith smiled at the sum of power in her hand, then looked at Wrodon, slightly confused. She knew him better, he hated being made a fool of. Then why was he so calm? Wrodon, as if sensing her thoughts, produced a container, the bottle that had remained in his quarters, forgotten by his intruders. Lilith smiled slightly interested by the thoughts going through Wrodons mind. "This is far from over," Wrodon said to himself more then to his guest, "Mortals are such ignorant insects, so quick to give up the things that truely hold power over them." he looked into the bottle of dreams, smiling softly to himself, "Sleep well my pet, I will have you back soon enough, then I will find what makes you so unique and claim it."
