Jeremy looked over the many items in the Exhibit. He was here with Sentinel, Tobor, Amazon and Shadow as security for the coins but he was still very interesting in the items themselves. So much history was in this room alone, not to mention on his belt. Several of the museum workers had already asked him if thye could put his sword on display or examine it, though he politely refused someone else would ask eventually.

"I never much cared for museums" Sentinel said coming to stand beside Jeremy.

"Why? The past is fascinating" Jeremy said standing a little closer to the "demon coins".

"I'm not one for remembering the past, let's leave it at that" Sentinel said. "You sure you're up for this? You got smacked around hard by Taurus"

"Yeah, Doc fixed me up. I'm still a little sore but nothing moving around won't fix"

"Good to know. Come one let's see what Amazon and Shadow are up to"

Micheal watched the heroes leave and stood in front of the coins. Everyone here was so ignorant of the power held within them, everyone but him. Once everyone left he would take the coins and bury them under a church somewhere where no one would find them and their power would be useless.

Why do you want to do that? Really now isn't that a lot of effort for something no one will know about?

I'll know. And He'll know. That's all that matters Nichodemus. Now shut up I have to think

Rapheal was flying over the museum, circling it as he tried to figure out the significance. It was like there was an itch he couldn't scratch, a general feeling of discomfort that eminated from the building since the recovery of the coins. He had heard the stories and rumors, but he did not particularly believe them. Even so, he found himself directly over head of it as he patroled, as if something were drawing him, though he was sure this was simply imagination on his part. Finally, he gave in and descended, landing at the front of the museum and folding his wings as he past through the doors. He might as well take a look, it was rare he took time off to see the sights the city had to offer, though he himself was considered a spectical of sorts due to the strange asortment of equiptment he carried. Even to him, it was a mystery, his momories of where he recieved the items were a clouded haze, and the sort of drama this created seemed more then enough to drive people to wild ideas and theories that would problitly do well if placed in the pages of a comic book. Of course considering this city, it would not be far fetched to write a non-fiction book that years ago would have been considered pure fantasy.

***

Thorn looked at the ancient relics that lay behind the glass, trinkets of ancient egypt, small wooden toys buttons and carved pebbles. Strange how such things would be considered a fortune by todays standards. Of course he was not one to talk, he had learned first hand the value even the most trivial of items. These relics spoke of stories long forgotten, buried in the sands of time, in both a literal and figurative sense. Still, this was not really what he had to look at. He had heard of the coins that had just come in, and the rumors surrounding them left a splinter of discomfort in him. The Grimorum contained chapters of details of dark creatures and curses that would leave a person shivering in the night just by reading them, and coming from a person who had been taken by such creatures, it took a lot less to convice him to investigate. He hoped that the rumors were simply a hook to get people to visit, but he would only feel better if he checked it out himself and made sure that coins were simply metal trinkets.

Albrecht stepped away from the case with the coins, moving with the crowd to see other parts of the exhibit. Padre had asked him to check things out; according to one of his sources the coins were very bad news if they were the real deal. The charm in Albrecht's pocket hadn't registered the coins as 'magical', but that didn't mean they didn't have some other sort of power and Albrecht hadn't had the time to make a more complicated charm before the exhibit opened. The charm had reacted to a couple of stone tools marked as part of a shaman's implements, but only enough of a reaction to prove they had been magical at some time in the past.

He wasn't happy about having to take this case alone, but Padre and Caine were in Thailand and Ra was still in Egypt on his sabbatical; Theo meant to help but got called away on an emergency he wouldn't talk about. It was enough to drive him nuts sometimes. At least the Silver Shield was taking the security seriously.

"Why are you staring at him?" Amazon asked Tobor.

"Whatever do you mean?" Tobor replied flatly, his gaze still on Albrecht.

"Your head is facing the wrong way. It's kind of disturbing and obvious," Amazon replied.

"He's wanted for questioning by the Silver Shield," Tobor replied. "We don't actually suspect him of anything, but he helped us detain the Behemoth, and now that the Behemoth's escaped this one may have some helpful information."

"So go ask him," Amazon said, leaning in to look at some of the jewelry buried with the mummy in the case to her right.

"But that would be too easy..."

"This is boring" muttered Shadow to himself. He was one of the newer members of the SSTC and only got this assignment because of his fascination with the occult. He knew the history of the coins but found this stake out business boring.

"Why did they send me here, I'm the new guy I don't have any . ." he stopped himself mid thought knowing it was useless to continue such a thought path.

He walks away from the coins looking around trying to see if he found anything suspicious. He did this to the point of not watching where he was going and bumping into a man carrying a bag.

Hey watch where your going you nihilistic looking boy. said Nicolae Trotsky as he stared down at Shadow.

"I'm sorry sir you don't have to start with the name calling though. Ummm, I didn't think bags were allowed inside the museum.

"Umm, it carries my photography equipment and such. I'm here to do a report on the coins for Unity" answered Trotsky. "Do you want to comment on the exhibit?"

"As a matter of fact no I don't" was the only thing Shadow muttered before walking off on his way again.

"If this nation went by the laws and regulations it should, such youthful disrespect would not be tolerated" Trotsky yelled at the retreating Shadow before clutching his bag. It didn't hold photography or anything newspaper related. It held his gear. He had a hunch something was going to go down today and just incase it did . . . he wanted to be prepared.

Jeremy watched the strange man yell at Shadow and laughed under his breath. Shadow was a good person he just took everything way to seriously. He turned to look at the display with the silver coins and noticed a hooded man standing next to it his hand held up and an eye tattooed on his palm.

"Third Eye!" he yelled drawing his sword and rushing the man.

Sentinel responded just as fast and tried to get the room cleared of civilians and growled under his breath as he saw more Third Eye members, nearly a dozen of them, rushing into the room.

Micheal tried to reach the display before anyone else but he accidentally bumped into a man in armor and screamed as the flesh on his arm burned from the contact. In an instant he had his wings unfurled and hellfire in his hand prepared to defend himself from this armored man.

The Third Eye beside the display punched through the display and grabbed a handful of coins and threw them across the room to his buddies that had just entered. He flipped one through his fingers and the others managed to catch theirs or pick them up off the floor. Jeremy stopped a few feet from the Third Eye as his body changed into a monster and Jeremy froze for a moment as he took in the new appearance of the gang member.

The fact that a man was transforming into what could only be described as a demonic creature only put Rapheal on guard, this sword was raised, ready to defend should the creature attack. The fact that several other people were transforming as they caught the coins keyed him into the purpose. Looked like his imagination had more credit then he had thought. Before the demon before him could strke, one of the Third eye demons took it into his head to attack him from behind. Rapheals danger sense went off, and he reacted, turning and charging as the creature swung, ramming his sholder into it as he twisted his sword to clip the tip of in beneath the coin in the creatures hand and flipp it out of it's grasp, sending it hurtling across the floor as it started changing back. He reminded himself, non lethal tackics only, they were still people, no matter how demonic their transformation.

"Great, just couldn't be wrong about this could I," said Thorn, walking in on the scene. So the book was right after all, this was going to make things difficult if those coins got out into the city. However, two former Third Eye members with large claws and wings closing in on him gave him the impression that he had become a target. "Your kidding, right?" said Thorn almost mockingly, seems Lilith's fae arrogence was rubbing off on him a little. Searching out the magic he pointed at one of them, electricity crakling around his arm as he cast the spell. The crash of lightning boomed as the bolt shot into the creature, then radiated into its comrade like a chain. The smell of charred skin became apparent, thought the two looked only peeved. "You want another," challanged Thorn, raising his arms in a readied position. The creatures looked unimpressed.

"Swell, this isn't good" muttered Shadow as he watches a third eye member grab a coin out of the air and stare down at Shadow.

"Now look, why don't you just drop the coin and make things a bit easie . . ." Shadow doesn't finish as the man begins to grow several tentacles from his back and his face changes to that of a wolf.

"Well that's just weird" mutters Shadow as a tentacle comes hurtling at him. He drops through his shadow and appears a few feet away from the tentacle creature that spins around looking for him.

"Four . . . .Three . . .Two . .One . .Five SECONDS" yells Shadow as he's able to use his powers again and sends out a tentacle of shadow that attempts to smack the creature. The creature hurls uses one of it's tentacles to block the attack and a strange tug of war commences. The creature wins pull Shadow into the air. Shadow crashes to the floor but rolls out of the way of another tentacle attack. Another attempted tentacle attack happens but this time Shadow uses his shadow to make a shield to block the strikle. The monster presses down on the shield trying to break through it.

"Here I come Comrade" mutters a voice before a sickle comes down through the tentacle slicing it off. The monster screams as it pulls back what is left of it's tentacle. Shadow removes his shielding and looks up to see The People's Hammer now starring down at him.

"Comrade, the floor is no place to be in battle".

"You know" utters Shadow "We're suppose to arrest you on sight."

"HA HA HA, WelL Comrade if you wish to arrest me while all this is going on be my guest to attempt." The People's Hammer turns his head and sees another Third Eye Member now transforming. His hands are becoming like crab claws and his face turns into that of a snake.

"Well, that's not something you see every day Comrade" utters The People's Hammer as he charges after the crabsnake. The Crabsnake swipes it's claw but the People's Hammer slide's between his legs nailing him in the left leg with his hammer as he glides by. The creature screams but doesn't go down as the People's Hammer quickly gets up to his feet.

Albrecht cursed under his breath when he saw the first gang member start to transform. "Demons," he muttered, his own form blurring into that of the Hexenwulf. "Padre's out of town and it had to be demons." Reacting quickly as a brutish lizard-monster charged him, Albrecht slapped both palms to the floor and growled a quick incantation; the lizard soon found itself not running across marble but mired in tar. As it fought to free itself, Albrecht channeled the heat coming from the vents in the ceiling and gathered it until it was enough to ignite the tar, and soon the lizard was roaring in rage.

"Protect the civilians," Tobor said to Amazon, charging at a cross between a gorilla, a crocodile, and some kind of bat that was nearly as large as he was. The two connecting with a boom and fell to the floor in a tangle of limbs. There was the sound of tearing flesh and a sickening pop, and Tobor pulled the creature's arm from its socket. Unexpectedly, the hand on the arm continued to clutch and scratch at Tobor with it's claws, leaving deep gouges in his armor, and another limb was already growing in its place on the beast. "Oh, so we're playing hardball," Tobor remarked, then he reversed his grip on the severed arm and began beating the creature with it's own limb.

Albrecht had given up on trying to burn the lizard and was now holding it off by diverting all the heat he could away from the area between himself and it, creating a wall of ice. It had slowed the creature, but only slightly, and sweat beaded on Albrecht's face as he tied desperately to hold the cracking ice together as the lizard slammed against it. Finally his concentration broke and the lizard broke through, lunging forward with needle-filled jaws. Albrecht closed his eyes and expected the worst, but when the blow didn't come he hazarded a glance.

"RUN!" Amazon shouted, her hammer wedged in the beast's mouth as it tried to clamp down on them both. Albrecht replied by grabbing the handle of the hammer and reaching up to the lights. Amazon let go for a moment as Albrecht nodded to her, and then the lights blinked. The light above Albrecht exploded as the electricity flowing through the building coursed down into his hand and through him to the lizard. The beast convulsed and then fell limp, transforming back into a human.

"Wow," Amazon said, taking her hammer from Albrecht's stiff fingers as the emergency generators came on and red light filled the briefly dark room. Another two monsters reared their heads, and Amazon turned back to Albrecht. "Can you do that again?"

Albrecht's eyes were glazed and all the hair on his body stood on end. He opened his mouth to speak but only a wisp of steam came out, and he fell down on his knees twitching slightly as he struggled to come to his senses.

"I'll take that as a no..."

"LUCY LOOK OUT!" Jeremy yelled slashing the hand off of what looked like a six foot featureless statue, featureless except for the sigil on it's forehead and the pair of red eyes above where it's eyes would normally be. It let out a wordless scream as the stump burned and sizzled.

"You carry a sword of the Cross? How is that possible?" it said, it's voice deep and grating like a rock slide.

"What?" Jeremy asked just in time to dodge the creature as it stomped the ground and cracked the marble floors.

Sentinel was pounding away at what looked like a spiky gorilla. He was pretty surprised at how strong this thing was, he wasn't holding his punches but it wasn't slowing down and it's hits hurts. It roared and slammed a meaty fist into Sentinel's face sending him stumbling backwards. For a few moments Sentinel saw spots and reached up to his nose to notice the metallic read fluid coming from his nose.

"Oh it's on" he mumbled before tackling the beast to the ground.

Micheal saw the actions of the armored man, and also saw his wings.

An angel child? How interesting

A what? Micheal thought.

Don't worry about it. Crab on your left.

Micheal jumped aside as a crab man jabbed at him with it's pincer. Micheal fired a blast of hellfire at it and seared off one of it's legs.

Where is the coin?

He has it in his mouth.

Fantastic.

Micheal flew downwards at the beast and it roared in defiance, so Micheal blew off it's head. Reaching down with a rag the dropped the coin that had fallen into a bag and surveyed the area.

This is going to be oodles of fun.

Isn't it always?

Shut up.

Thorn was having a bit of trouble, he was finding his spells ineffective against new improved (ugly) third eyes. They seemed resistant to elemental attacks. He needed to fix that, but he would need a weapon, dodging back from the two on him he saw a bishops old wardrobe, a staff proped up. He smassed the glass with his foot and withdrew it. "Sorry father, I'll bring it right back." he said, spinning it and raising it, casting a spell on it quickly so that it wouldn't break with the first blow. A moment later he rushed the two, the staff glowing as he channeled a spell through it. As One with an octopus head closed in, he stamped the end to the staff right into it's forehead, there was a sizzle of energy as the imprint left aother mark overlaying the one already there. Thorn followed this up as he channeled more arcane magic into the staff, which burst alight into flames, "INFERNO!" he yelled as he struck it, amazingly the staff penetrated, and the creature burst into flames. The first spell had given it a temporary vulnerability to fire, opening it up to the strong fire spell afterwards. The creature, alight tried desperatly to put itself out, crashing into the one behind it. This gave thorn enough time to prepare his next spell. He didn't have another spell to weaken the creatures to his magic, so he would have to make the rest of the fight one of combat. He held the staff in front of him casting the spell, "Be thy bane." he murmered, and the staff glowed pearly white for a moment. The spell had strengthened it to be effective only against... whatever these things were now. The creature was now in the middle of swinging at him, trying to catch him before he had time to move. Thorn thrust the staff to the side, where it cracked into the things arm with a sound that sugested the crack of calcium. He then kicked the end of the staff up, which brought it up and into the creatures chin. "How do you like me now ugly," he said, spinning the staff around for another strike.

"IS THAT ALL YOU GOT COMRADE" yelled The People's Hammer as he ducked a claw attack and another. He rolls around on the floor spinning around and swinging his hammer hoping to hit the monster if it got close enough but it doesn't.

"SNARLFAFFAJ" is all that comes out of the monster's mouth as it jumps in the air and attempts to land on The People's Hammer. The People's Hammer again rolls out of the way and goes to stand up on to be met with a back claw to the back sending him flying across the room and crashing into the wall.

"Ompff" groans The People's Hammer as he stands up his back to the wall facing his assiliant.

"Will you stop that" utters Shadow as he continues to use shadow to fend off Tentacle attack after tentacle attack from the other monster. Shadow had spent most of the battle on the defensive and so far it hasn't changed one bit. Shadow quickly looks around and sees he can teleport behind the creature and hope it confuses it long enough to get a shot in.

"POOF" goes Shadow as he teleports through his shadow and appears from one behind the Tentacle creature. The Tentacle Creature looks confused looking around trying to find Shadow.

"Three . .Four . . Five Seconds" mutters Shadow as he sends a ball of shadow at the creature. The Creature turns around in time to get smack by it causing it to fly off it's feat and crash into the crab claw creature which was stalking The People's Hammer. With both creatures down Shadow teleports over to The People's Hammer.

"You got anything at all that'll slow them down" asks Shadow.

"I suggest you don't look directly at them" utters The People's Hammer as he tosses a canister at them and shields his eyes. Both monsters scream as the flash goes off blinding them both temporarily.

"That Comrade should give us some . . . you okay Comrade?"

Shadow was on the ground dizzy and rubbing his eyes haven't looked away quick enough. The two monsters were getting their bearings back and the People's Hammer stand alone.

"In the name of Authoritarian Communism I will not back down from this challenge" yells The People's Hammer.

"Demons... demons... what do I have that will work against demons?" Hexenwulf muttered to himself as he wracked his mind for an answer. A quick incantation had rendered him invisible from the creatures, but it wouldn't last for long. When the flash grenade went off he got an idea and rushed towards Thorn. "I need to borrow your magic for a second," he whispered in Thorn's ear, reaching out and somehow grabbing a piece of the air around Thorn's staff that glowed white as he held it. Darting away, Hexenwulf began pouring his own energy into the fraction of the spell, multiplying it and nurturing it into several copies. He managed to get to Amazon and the People's Hammer before his invisibility dropped suddenly and a tentacle slammed into his stomach. He was knocked senseless and sent flying into the wall where he lay in a heap.

Still, what he had managed to accomplish seemed to intimidate the creatures. Amazon's and the People's Hammer's weapons glowed with the same pearly light as Thorn's staff for a moment, and the almost musical sound that accompanied their impact against the demon flesh indicated the spell was working. The only question was for how long.

The air was beginning to warm up as Amazon's temper began to rise. Static sparks were flying from the remains of the museum cases as the combatants brushed nearby, and what hair they had was beginning to stand up a little. Lucy let out a wordless roar when she saw three of the creatures converging on Jeremy, and flew at them full speed. Electricity played across the head of her hammer as she made a mighty overhead swing that caused the upper torso of a cross between an orangutan and a squid to explode from the force, and twirling with the force she made a second swing at the statue about to land a stony fist on Jeremy's head. Pieces of stone flew everywhere and the statue was knocked flat on it's back, a smoking crater in the center of its chest.

The third creature snarled in challenge to Amazon, and Amazon replied with another wordless scream of rage that sent sparks shooting out of the ruined lights and electrical sockets before she flew into action again.

Jeremy swung and cleaved the arm from another monster, surprised as it returned to the form of a normal human once the arm had fallen to the ground.

"Guys, these are people! Guys stop killing them they're people!" he screamed at the others though his voice was lost in the chaos of battle.

Micheal flew through the fight collecting the coins as he went.

These heroes sure make it convenient don't they

"Didn't I tell you to shut up?"

Yes

Micheal growled as he threw another coin into the bag, that was almost all of them only a few left. He turned and paled when he saw what was about to happen. One of the monsters had dug its claws into the stone floor and drawn a circle with many symbols in and around it. It gurgled a noise and the remaining creatures flooded to it and with a flash of light and stink of ozone they were all gone.

"Dammit!" Micheal screamed firing a blast of hellfire through the wall. He reverted to his human form and left with the still panicking crowd.

As the demons sank out of view, Raphael looked at thos left behind, the humans who were left injured and some dead. "We're going to need the medics in here." he called to the others as he moved to the side of one of th most injured, "I'll do the best I can to stabilize them, but were going to need the response team as soon as possible." He knelt down, taking his sword in hand and held the blade in his hand and squeezed, pulling the sword as it cut deep into his flesh. He winced slightly as blood began dripping down the blade. He would have to work quickly, the wound would heal even as it bled. He held his hand over the man's wounds, letting the blood trickle into them. This would not be as effective as an I.V. but it would at least help stabalize him until they could get ome proper medical attention. Not waiting, he moved to the next, reopening the wound again in his attempt to save human life.

***

Thorn placed the staff back in th case, releasing the magic that was cast on it. His hands actually aches a bit, it had been like hitting steel. He had learned a valuable lesson today, magic was not always effective, he would have to find a way to counter this problem in future. "Great," he said as he approached, "They escaped, I don't know about you, but the biblical crud has hit the fan." He was slightly annoyed, but deeply worried. The entries in the book mentioned dangerous words like 'apocalypse'. Usually this was a bad thing.

Tobor pounded on his opponent until the thing finally stopped wriggling under his fists, and it slowly shrank down into a human form again. The ganger's hand relaxed, and a blackened coin rolled out. Tobor reached down and picked it up, intrigued by the spark that leapt from the coin to his finger as he did so. Still, there was no ill aftereffect, so he put the coin back on the velvet cloth in its broken case, and surveyed the wreckage.

While Amazon went to make sure Jeremy was okay, Albrecht shifted back into his human form and leaned against a pillar to catch his breath. The fight had taken a lot out of him, even with all the help he'd had from Lucy, and he was glad it was over.
