Seth sprinted around the corner at top speed, almost crashing into another ogre. He dropped immediately and slid between the creature's legs like he was sliding into home base, using his momentum to regain his feet and keep running once he was past the monster. The ogre turned with a guttural call and pounded after him, but Seth was much faster. Unfortunately, he wasn't quite as speedy compared to the group that started chasing him originally.

Like nearly everyone else, he had spotted the goblins and trolls running amok and assumed it was just some overactive trick-or-treaters. He had almost walked right past them until he heard cries for help. He had turned to see the costumed miscreants harassing a teenage girl and the little boy at her side, probably her little brother out on a candy run. Seth had only made it four steps into the street when he saw the two enormous wolves come prowling out of an ally not a hundred feet from the girl and her little brother. For a brief instant, Seth actually believed it was another Halloween trick, but then one of the monstrous canine's spotted the kids and the other spotted him in almost the same moment. In nearly perfect synchronization, both wolves bared their fangs in a vicious snarl at their respective prey and dropped into a crouch, ready to pounce. The protochild had not waited after that.

He had activated his runes as he ran--he had barely noticed the wolf that had seen him as it jumped with its big mouth open and its deadly sharp teeth ready to tear--his speed had picked up exponentially as he barreled through the masked offenders to the siblings. He had pivoted on one foot and taken a protective stance in front of them, glaring at the thugs, daring one of them to make a move. He had had to blink a couple times to be sure, but there was no mistaking it. What he had originally believed to be a mob of criminals garbed in Halloween attire turned out to be the real thing. He had been faced with a group of goblins and trolls and even a couple of small ogres. Once that realization had hit home, he had not hesitated. Seth had brought his palms up to face the crowding fairies and braced himself before blasting away at them. It hadn't taken much to clear the way; surprise alone forced many of them to flee to a safer distance, while the rest were either too devastated or had been thrown too far away by the blasts to be a threat.

"Hurry! Get inside!" he had ordered the siblings before racing down the street, the wolves and still standing humanoids following closely.

And now, here he was, running flat out to escape these creatures he could not kill. He'd hurtled blast after blast at them, severed their limbs numerous times. But the just got back up and healed whatever damage had been done. It seemed only decapitation or the complete destruction of their bodies would finally stop them, but there were problems with either of those plans. There were too many coming at him too fast from too many sides at the same time for Seth to use beheading as an effective means of dispatch. There were also too many for him to simply blast them into oblivion; if he tried that, Seth was just as likely to send a chunk of the block with them.

Seth jumped over a goblin that dove at his legs from ahead, somersaulted and twisted. A blade of energy already extended from his hand as he swung it at the neck of the troll that tried to attack him next. He lopped its head off in one clean stroke and landed back on his feet to keep sprinting away without a pause. Seth heard heavy beats above him and to the left and glanced up. Two wolves were keeping pace with him on the rooftops. How they managed to get up there, the protochild could only imagine since the buildings were four stories high. Not that the how mattered at this point. The wolves were the only ones that could keep up with him and so were the only ones that could actually run him down, provided he didn't trip or have to slow up too much for something ahead. The trolls and goblins and other fairy creatures were a close second to the wolves in speed and were never more than a few yards behind Seth. And worse yet, he was beginning to feel the effects of running for so long. Even worse than that, was he would be even more exhausted once he stopped using his runes. It was going to be a long night.

Suddenly, the wolves sprinted ahead and bounded down to block the street ahead of Seth. A quick glance to either side told him there were no alleys for him to slip down. He was forced to stop and he could sense the fairies behind him stopping, as well, once they had formed a circle around him with the wolves at the head. Maybe it wasn't going to be such a long night after all.
Sometimes, it's not an angel you need, but a demon.

Suddenly the wolves jumped back, their ears perking at something it seemed only they could hear. They howled as one and broke from the fighting to tear off through the streets. Left without support, the goblins quickly lost interest in fighting these obviously superior beings, and took off in fear after the wolves. What they were after wasn't clear, but their destination was obviously the Park...
