"I hate dramatics" Vimes mumbled from behind his rock. He ran quickly to hide behind Tobor as another volley of flames came down. "Thanks big guy" he mumbled again. "Why couldn't we have just solved a riddle or something? It could have been a contest. Here I'll start, what's green and big and about to be hit in the eye with a pipe?" Vimes yelled. "Tobor throw me at his face" Tobor complied without a complaint and with some surprisingly good aim as Vimes smashed into Malek's snout and then bashed him in the eye with the pipe, though losing grip when the dragon reared and sent him falling to the ground only to be saved by Kindle catching him and rolling with the fall. "Thanks" Vimes said diving behind another rock to avoid the flames, Kindle just moving them to the side. *IMPRESSIVE I MUST ADMIT MORTAL* Malek said inside his mind. *BUT IT ONLY WORKS ONCE, UNLIKE YOU HUMANS I LEARN FROM MY MISTAKES* "Big talk from the guy that is about to get his butt whooped" Kindle said throwing Malek's own flames back at him. |

Flame licked the dragons scales, but as it seemed, though the scales charred slightly, the dragon's hide was well used to flames. Thorn darted by as he positioned himself, "Unless you can freeze as well as burn, I doubt that fire is going to be much use." he said, "But you can keep him from frying us." he said as the dragons wings flapped, and the dragon rose above their heads. A moment later, he let loose a concentrated burst of flames fell like a burning ball. Before it could hit, the Kindle defelcted it, causing it to land elsewhere in the clearing, where it continued to burn. All the while, Thorn thought. He was no match for the dragon physically, nor were any of his Fae abilities suited for battling the dragon. Still a plan started to form. "Luchador, do you think you can keep a Dragon destracted for a while?" he asked. A moment later, he darted to the edge of the clearing, pulling a long burnt thorn branch from the flames. *IS THIS ALL THE STRENGTH YOU CAN MUSTER?* said Malek, lowering himself slowly. As he aproached the ground, he continued flapping, even harder, the force of his beats causing the dust to unsettle, the shape of the clearing causing the winds to turn in on itself, creating miniture cyclones of intense force that threatened to scoop up whatever they came across. |

The Luchador hadn't really done much at this point. . .. what the heck was he suppose to do. He knew how to fight . . . and well . . dodge and . . . . DODGE!! The Luchador cartwheels out of the way of one of the cyclones heading in his direction and lands perfectly on his feet. "I must admit, maybe I should've stayed out of the portal" He thought as he leaped and spun out of the way of another cyclone. Thank goodness these weren't extremely powerful" "Never though when I came to join the Silver Shield I be dodging cyclones caused by well . . that thing" *THING! THING!* bellowed Malek. "Yes Senor thing, a giant over sized lizard who really has a high opinion of itself . .and whom so far his cyclones have been unable to dispatch THE LUCCHADOR" The Luchador strikes a pro-wrestling pose as Malek just stares at him distracted . .and annoyed. *I'LL SHOW YOU LUCHADOR!* he bellowed as Luchador scampered away from another cyclone hoping whatever this Thorn guy wanted to do it would work. Luchador had wrestling commitments. . and it would suck if he had to cancel them due to Dragon related injuries. |

Luchadors taunts were doing the trick, focusing the dragons attention off of Thorn. Bracing himself against the winds, he droved the burnt end of the branch on the ground, scraping it as he began circling the clearing, a black mark showing up. The job went quicker as he moved with the wind, all but running as he completed a circle. The circle helped Thorn focus on an area, setting a boundary he hoped would help what he was trying to do. Shaping the Hedge was nothing new to him, although he rarely did more then shape an object out of the Thorns, it was possible to shape the environment of the Hedge, Fancy Anne's cottage and Maleks mountain were prime examples of Hedge Shaping taken to a new level. Thorn focused on the air around them, hoping he had the strength to accomplish the task. He plunged the branch into the ground like a staff, concentrating, and bit by bit, a change could be felt in the air. The wind seemed to become slightly less volitile. The change became more apparent when small speckles of refelted light came into being, from small flecks of ice as the temperature began falling within the circle. All Thorn was really doing was lowering the temperature, but the Hedge seemed to exaggerate the effect as small snowflakes formed. However, the temperature seemed to have little effect on the dragon, who fought on, not noticing the sudden change as he let lose another bout of flames, which flew into the winds, creating small vortexes of flames that whirled arounf dangerously. Kindle pulled the flames aside, keeping them from frying Luchador as he continued to keep the dragons attention. Part one down, thought Thorn to himself, looking up at the sky, now to part two. |

Tobor had flown out of the way initially to assess the situation. Personally he thought this was quite silly; he thought this 'magic' issue was simply power beyond the understanding of scientific minds as they were, but a payment plan, with interest of course, seemed a much more logical solution than all this fighting. Still, he did say he'd work to keep Kindle safe, so he began to formulate a plan. He flew upwards, gaining altitude while watching the ground below. The physics of this realm were strange and it seemed finite, but Tobor was going to make the best of what he had. When the ground ceased to move away, Tobor cut the thrust of his boosters and began a freefall; once he was pointed straight at Malek he hit the boosters on full. Thorn seemed to have a plan, and the others were doing what they could to distract the great dragon. Tobor knew he was the strongest of the group, physically speaking, and he figured this would make the dragon focus on him. The impact was deafening, to say the least, as three tons of metal went screaming into the the top of Malek's head at several hundred miles an hour. Malek's head was driven down almost to the ground from the impact, and Tobor bounced of the scaly hide onto the ground, shaking unsteadily as he climbed to his feet. Malek's lips peeled back in a toothy snarl as his eyes focused on Tobor. "Bad Dragon! No sacrifices!" |

With Malek fully focused on Tabor, It gave Thorn the time he needed to complete the second part of the shaping. Above in the sky, clouds began to form, swirling out of nothingness, however, the cloud line stopped, and as the density grew, the clouds formed a circle conforming to the outline on the ground, so the sun still shone while the formation grew in height, heavy with moisture. Malek flapped his wings, rising into the air once more, *PERHAPS I SHOULD SHOW YOU WHAT I DID TO METAL MEN BACK IN MY DAY.* He threatened, when suddenly the sound of thunder crackled through the mountain. Before he had a chance to look up, a downpour came down, soaking the dragon immediately. The frigid temperature caused a freezing rain, which clung to the dragons hard scales and wings which slowed with the weight and ice that impeded them, causing the dragon to float back to the ground. Shaking his wings to try and remove the ice, he growled with annoyance. Stem rose from the ground as the rain cooled the stones, causing the fire that burned on it to go out. Now grounded, the Dragon looked about, finally catching Thorn in his sight, *VERY CLEVER,* he said, *BUT NOW YOU HAVE FORCED ME WITH BITING RANGE.* The Dragon Took a step forward, ready to take a bite out of Thorn, who hoped the others would act to recapture the dragons attention. |

"this is about to be dumbest thing I ever done . . . . " thought the Luchador as got closer to the dragon to speak to it. "Bite? Bite? All Powerful all mighty . . with PHENOMANAL COSMIC POWER" and you have to resort to biting? BITING! *SHUT UP!* screamed Malek at the highly obnoxious masked man." "Senor, in pro wrestling biting is something the rudo does when he's run out of cheap tricks to make the crowd boo him. I guess in your case biting is what you do when all your ALL POWERFUL offense fails to take out a bunch of superheros who apparently can withstand any power you direct at us." *YOU CONTINUE TO INSULT ME!!!* Luchador smiled knowing he had his attention again. Luchador then frowns realizing he has his attention again. *SILENCE MASKED MAN!!* Fire . . . great just great Fire. a Fire Ball comes down at the Luchador who cartwheels out of the way and then yets out a yelp as his cape is on fire. He begins to roll around on the ground while at the same time untangling his cape. He had Malek's attention but if somebody didn't react quickly another fire blast was going to do him in. |

Malek let lose another stream of flame, the ice on the ground cracking and hissing into steam as it smothered the area in heat. It seemed as if Luchador was engulfed until the flames cleared, with him unharmed in the center of it. "Forgetting someone?" said Kindle, who was still keeping the dragon from reducing any of them to ashes. Thorn concentrated, thankful that the wrestler had come along now, as his ringside banter seemed to be able to push the dragons buttons. The freezing rain continued to pour, collecting in the middle of the crator as a massive puddle due to the heat let out by MAlek's breaths, however, the temperature was still low enough hat the water was ready to freeze, and withThorns push, the process accelerated, causing it to immediatly freeze over, encasing the dragons feet in ice. The dragon looked hardly phased by this minor annoyance, but Thorn as not finished, and as the ice formed it clinged and climbed up maleks legs encasing the dragons body in dense ice, quickly forming an ice crystal . As Malek struggled, the cystal grew, until only his head remained untouched, where blazes of fire still poured forth. One finaly roar, and the Dragon became quiet, until a strange sound seemed to eminate from him, until it could be relized that the Dragon was chuckling. *GOOD, VERY GOOD. THE BATTLE IS OVER.* the dragon said. With that the ice cracked, splittering into a thousand pieces as the dragon stepped forth, unharmed. He lowered his head to Luchador, *I ENJOY YOUR SPIRIT, MASKED MAN, BUT DO RELIZE THAT HAD NOT THIS BEEN A TEST I WOULD NOT HAVE HELD BACK AS I DID. THOUGH YOU DID, I ADMIT, DO BETTER THEN I EXPECTED.* The old dragon stretched out his wings as if stiff, *PERHAPS I AM GETTING TOO OLD FOR THIS.* "Do you need to lie down?" Said Kindle in a joking tone. The dragon let lose what seemed a roar of laughter. *YOU DARE MOCK THE GREATEST DRAGON IN THE WORLD?* He then settled down, looking at Thorn in a serious manner, *HERE TAKE IT.* he said, the grimorum rising out of the mountain again, ignoring the ice that was quickly melting and evaporating before their eyes. Thorn took the book out from midair, and the glow disaappeared, leaving the weight of the text in his hands. "Thank you." said Thorn, a little taken aback by the strange feeling the book seemed to eminate. *NO NEED TO BE GRATEFUL. YOU HAVE EARNED IT. YOU OWE ME NOTHING.* Thorn then had a sense of forboading, the book was probably very powerful, even what he had experianced with Fae abilities, it was probably nothing like he would experiance with this, and the temptations it would bring... "Are you sure this is ok, for me to take this." Sensing what was on his mind the dragon looked at him. *NO NEED TO WORRY. YOUR HEART WAS TRUE WHEN YOU FOUGHT ME. THERE IS NO EVIL IN YOU. I TRUST YOU WILL NOT MISUSE THE BOOK. THE WISDOM OF MY YEARS GUARANTEES IT.* |

The Luchador extends himself to his feet and dusts himself off. his cap was burnt so that only half of it was left. "Great, I need another cape" mumured the Luchador. It was no big deal he had plenty more. "I understand Senor you were holding back . . . considering you almost killed me not holding back . . I appreciate that you did. I must admit you were way more enjoyable going toe to toe with than my wrestling match with Mr. Awesome a little whiles back. You are talented and powerful while he . . well look I'm rambling about things you don't care about forgive me." The Luchador approaches Thorne and takes a look at the book. "So Senor, we went through all that for this book? Since I am here until we leave I feel obligated to ask you . . what next?" |

"A pretty important question" Vimes says, shrugging ice off of his coat, walking up to Thorn. He lights a cigarette and inhales deeply, sliding the pipe back into his coat. He looked up at Malek with a smirk, he could feel the dragon rooting around in his head and didn't think he needed to say what he wanted to, but hey, he wanted to. "You know this world is pretty small, so it's not that impressive to say you're the greatest in the world. Not to mention you're probably the only dragon here so you could be six inches long and not able to fly and you would still be the greatest dragon here" *DO NOT PUSH YOUR LUCK, MORTAL* Malek said, visibly sneering at Vimes. "Yeah yeah whatever, let's go already" he replied turning his back to the monster. |

Thorn thought about what would happened next. Of course he would have to find out how much was actually contained in the book, and see how he did a harnessing his powers, but after that... "I will free myself." he said, more to himself then to Luchador. *NOW HOWEVER, YOU WILL LEAVE.* said Malek testily, as if a bit wearied, *AND LET A DRAGON HAVE SOME PEACE AND QUIET FOR A FEW HOURS.* He raised a claw, the tip of which seemed to sparkle, and seemed to 'cut' the air. Like threads unraveling, the space seemed to seperate, revealing what appeared to be the real world beyond. *I SUGGEST YOU DO IT QUICKLY, BEFORE I GROW HUNGRY.* Glad to be rid of this place, Kindle hurriedly exited through the portal. As Thorn approached, Maleks voice arose in his mind, though this seemed a personal message, *A FINAL WORD OF CAUTION. A MAN CANNOT HAVE TWO MASTERS, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DRAW ON FAE POWERS AGAIN, THEY WILL NO LONGER AID YOU DOWN THIS PATH.* Thorn looked back, but said nothing, understanding the warning. In a way the warning was comforting, as it felt like a severance from at least part of the hold the Fae had on him. He stepped through the portal, silently thanking Malek for the hope he had given him. |

As the last of the group stepped through the portal, it sealed itself up leaving the dragon alne on the mountiantop. *... WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO COME OUT?* The old dragon said, waiting on the hidden observer to show herself. "Hello Malek, it's been a while." said a female voice, walking into the clearing. Fancy Anne approached the dragon with no fear, as if he were an old friend. *YOU'VE GROWN OLD.* remarked the dragon, *I'VE LOST COUNT OF THE YEARS.* "You don't look so young either." the witch said back, adding slyly, "Your like a sweet old grampa now." Malek gave a small growling chuckle. *YOU AMUSE ME.* he said, before taking on a slightly more serious tone *I ASSUME IT WAS YOU WHO SENT THE BOY MY WAY?* "And I see you helped him. Hopefully enough for this place to survive." said Anne looking out to the horizon. "You felt it too, when the machine man entered." *I DID. THIS REALM IS STILL YOUNG, FRAGILE AND UNSTABLE. IT IS TOO CLOSE TO SLIPPING BACK INTO THE AETHER. THE BOY MUST LEARN TO DRAW ON HIS OWN STRENGTH UNTIL THIS WORLD CAN ESTABLISH ITSELF. YOU FEEL THIS TOO, THAT IS WHY YOU HELPED HIM.* "You still see through everything." Sighed Anne. *I HAVE KNOWN YOU TOO LONG.* "I hope they'll be alright." *WE MUST TRUST THEM. IT IS ALL WE CAN DO.* |
