Thorn and Kindle had to dive out of the way as Tobor rocketed through the portal. As he landed and Tobor explained his presence, Thorn was confused, as the only other guy he had a contract with in Silver Shield was Titan, and he could not put the nickname Diamond-head on him. Kindle however, got the connection, "Zir. I told him I was ok on my own." she was annoyed that he had gone out of his way to get someone to watch her back. It was sweet that he worried about her but still. Thorn didn't have time to ponder it, as something akin to a pulse could be felt through the Hedge with the robots arrival. Even worse, the demeanor that the robot displayed was sure to attract trouble of the worse kind, as the Hedge reacted to the thoughts and emotions of the beings within, and he had no idea how it would react to Tabor's A.I., though it seemed they were about to find out. The Thorns around the path seemed to take on a metallic sheen, and patches of circuits appeared so that the thorns appeared almost robotic in appearance. The ditch that the roots entrance had made seemed to squirm and move, until Thorn noticed that it was not the ground, but a mass of insects burrowing up from beneath. As light from the canopy glistened off thm, he saw what appeared to be a swarm of ants, though grey and metal, sparks of electricity flickering across their mandables angerly as the began to swarm. "Oh, Crud," said Thorn, as the swarm directed it's attention, not only at the root that had disturbed their nest, but the nearest creatures as well, namely them. "Now would be a good time to get out of here." said Thorn, backing away from the swarm line. He considered fleeing the Hedge for the moment, but that would leave the robot stranded until they found him again, and even if it survived this encounter, he would draw every and any kind of creatures until it destroyed itself with it's own want of battle. The metal ants swarmed up one of Tobors legs, biting into his armor, threatening to sever motor functions if they were allowed to get into his more vital circuits. "Ants," Tobor sighed. "I suppose this would be quite painful if I were some sort of organic, what with your 'nerves' and 'pain receptors'." Tobor simply activated the rocket boosters in his legs at maximum thrust, the sudden heat flash-frying the majority of the ants and the rest unable to hold on as he blasted upwards. Once he was airborne he began to pummel the ground with his shoulder cannons until the anthill was nothing more than a smoking crater in the ground. "This place is boring," Tobor said, "although I am quite pleased that it currently resembles something worth looking at." His photoreceptors took in the landscape while he was airborne, what appeared to be both an endless horizon surrounding an area that couldn't have been more than several miles across. "On second thought, I am intrigued. Non-Euclidean geometry, shifting landscape, definitely unfriendly fauna. I wonder if I could find a giant mechanical pony here. I've always wanted to go horseback riding..." |

As Tobor assaulted the ground, Kindle and Thorn had to dive back through the portal as it closed to avoid becoming casualties in Tobor's onslaught against the metal ants. "Isn't he supposed to be on our side?" asked Thorn, brushing himself off. "I swear I'm going to have someone reprogram him as a toaster oven." said Kindle, "If anything is left of him once I get though with him. Edited by daioni, Oct 27 2008, 04:16 PM.

The portal opened once more, and Thorn, Kindle and Ghost stepped back through. A few seconds later, Luchador stepped through. "For goodness sakes, did anyone not know about this secret meeting?" Said Thorn exasperated. The group migrated to Tobors position. "Anyway, who are you, and what do you want here?" he asked Luchador, wondering why the masked man had followed them in.

The Luchador looked around ignoring the questioning at first . . . "What strange surroundings" he muttered out loud before he turned to answer Thorn. 'LISTEN HERE! WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DEMA . . umm err sorry . . I went into Rudo mode for a moment" The Luchador, exiting his Purple Star Persona clears his throat and answers in a more civil tone. "Senor, I am the Luchador, I've been in town the past week or so doing recon around Silver City before I made my way to a place that has decided to recruit my services. . .. I saw a very suspcious looking . . portal . . . and I entered in to inverstigate. I guess I should throw the question back to you senor. What is this place, who are you, and might I ask . . what are you up to?" The Luchador didn't feel like he was dealing with a threat, although that red looking mechanical thing perplexed him quite a bit. |

"I just wonder why people seem to think walking through stragne unknown portals is a good idea," said Thorn, "Okay, Luchador, you've managed to stumble into the Hedge, another plane of existance which does not follow the same rules as our own." he began, explaining it as quickly as he could, "I suggest you follow these rules. One: don't leave the paths, the paths are much safer then the thorns. Two: Like attracts like, so keep your thoughts on things other then violence or your going to attract it. "Not that this is interesting and all," said Kindle, growing impatient, "But I do wish to make it back to our world as soon a possible, so can we please move on and get where we're suppose to be going?" "Right, you might as well come with us." said Thorn to Luchador, "Safer they staying here." With that he started down the path that would lead them to the mountain of thorns. The Luchador loves a challenge senor . . but since you seem to know more about this place than me I will not issue any. He begins to follow behind Thorn and Kindle but at a distance. "Senor, in the interest of fairness though, I have introduced myself, although I'll admit it was a rather simple introduction, is it wrong for me to ask the same of you?" Luchador looked around. Another plane of existence? He never had to encounter this in Mexico. . . . things could be . . . interesting. |

Vimes groaned. This was going to be the worst outing he had ever been on. "The name's the Gray Ghost, that's Kindle and that's Thorn. The robot is Tobor" he said walking up to Thorn. "Since I know you were wondering, Zirconium is Kindle's husband. They're both members of the Silver Shield, he can turn his body into a diamond like substance that makes him very strong and very durable, combined with his extensive combat training he's a pretty helpful ally if a little thick" Without warning a monkey-cat creature leapt from the bushes and was smacked into the ground by the steep pipe Vimes was suddenly holding in his hand. Ugly black fluid began to slosh out of the creatures exposed skul and the area around the wound sizzled slightly. Vimes looked back to Thorn and smiled under his mask. "I know not everything here is fairy folk but there's not much that a steel pipe doesn't hurt" Vimes looked around without turning his head, a trick he had learned to keep bad guys from knowing he knew where he was and how many there were. He wasn't sure if the others had noticed but the shadows of the Hedge had become darker, the edges of the Thorns seemed sharper and shadows of people were seen moving around in the corner of his eyes. Then again he could be going crazy, which honestly seemed like a more likely happenstance to him. |

It was not long before the group reached the mountains of thorns. By now the party had a few dozen ambushes by Hedge creatures, but they were dealt with quickly enough, though by now,e veryone had noticed the darker elements that had showed up in the Hedge. Thorn thought on occation that he was a ghost flittering through the thorns. However, as they reached the mountain, it seemed whatever forces were here had drowned out the normal hedge area. Like Fancy Annes cottage, it seemed to have been permanently carved into the Hedge though less drastically then Annes flamboyant taste. The mountain itself was exactly that, a steep mountain covered in a tangled briar, though it was not as thick or high as the thorns of the Hedge. Here, the sky was actually visible, though here the sun seemed unseasonably warm. The mountain briar on closer inspertion, seemed to grow strait from the stones of the mountain, roots penetration the surface. "According to Anne, Malek is at the top. Anyone know how to fly?" He joked. He through Tabor on chance, might be able to fly hem up, but he wasn't sure it was safe to put his life in the hands of a crazy robot, so instead, he looked for a path through the Thorns. "Well, let's see if I can make a path." said Kindle, and creted flames to try and burn away through the Thorns. The briar sizzled and burned, through apparently, after the flames died down, the briar remained, through now the thorns and leaves had bee burned off. "What is it with the asbestous plants around here," asked Kindle. "Wait that may still work," Said Thorn, examining the bush, He tested his grip of the briar, and round the resilient plant to be perfect for a hand holds without the thorns attached. "Mind taking the lead?" he asked Kindle. "My pleasure," said Kindle, scourching the briar as far p as she could see before starting the climb, "Tobor, can you fly to the top and scout around, and get rid of anything nasty in our way?" she asked. The climb up the mountain went easier then expected, without thorns to stab at their hands, the vines were almost like a ladder to the top, giving the feeling that the thorns were their to disuade visitors, but not keep them out completely. Thorn himself wondered how the mounatin had come to be, for it had not been in the Hedge when he had first arrived, though he had to admit, many things seemed to come and go in the Hedge, and he knew more then well that someone could shape the Hedge, though he had not seen it done on a mountainous scale. "So this guy, is he supposed to be a hermit of some kind?" asked Kindle, as she scourched another patch of thorns. "No idea, all Anne said was to seek him at the top of the mountain, I never really asked what kind of person he was." "So for all we know, we could be walkig into a psycho killers den? Great." she replied, and continued grudgingly up the mountian. It was a few hours before they reached the top, taking a few rests here and there before they passed an outcropping of stone, and suddenly the entirety of the hedge was layed out before them. "Wow," said Kindle, looking at the horrizon, "You don't see that everyday. The finite realm was certainy a sight to see, and seeming all at once gave one the feeling of how small and fragile it seemed at the moment, like a pebble in the vast ocean. Turning their attention to the mountain, they found at the top the cap of the mountain was flattened out, slightly sunken in like a crator, and cleared of thorns, a wide area where one could easily move about without worrying about the terrain. A few cracks in the ground seemed to glow slightly, feeling the ground, it was warm to the touch. "I think this might be a volcano," said Kindle, "But it doesn't seem active." "There hasn't been any earquakes or eruptions since I've been here." said Thorn, "I could just be that it's meant to be warm here, maybe Malek made it that way." He looked around for the hermit, wondering where he was. "Maybe he's not home?" said Kindle, thinking along the same lines. "Not like he has another place to go," said Thorn. "HELLO!?" he yelled, so that his voice rang out over the mountain. "MALEK!?" Not even echoes replied. However a moment later, what sounded like the flapping of the wings of a great bird could be heard growing n the background, building until suddenly a great shape passed over head, casting a great shadow in the rim. From here, the sun was too bright to clearly see the fast moving shape, but the familiar feeling of dread made it clear that it was something big and powerful. A loud roar bellowed in th clearing, and the sound of something heavy landding on the thorns as a large head puled over the rime as it climbed into the clearing. Thorn and Co backed up as a huge green dragon approached, eyeing the group with a predatory eye. |

"Well that is something you don't see every day" said Senor as he eyed the predatory green dragon starring at them. The Luchador give a visible sigh. He was a damn good fighter, and could hold his on against anything but this was different. He had never had to put up with anything well . . quite like this before. "So", he said talking to the whole group in general as he eyed the dragon. "What exactly are we going to do in this situation, furthermore do we really need to get by this green dragon. I know I came through the portal to explore, and you all have been informative, but what exactly is it we're looking for before we go back to our world?" |

The Gray Ghost lit his cigarette and looked up at the dragon. "We're here to help twinkle the magic lion boy get some help from some guy named Malek" he said to the Luchador. "As long as no one makes any sudden movements I think we'll be fine" "Attack before you get attacked, that's hero creed Ghosty" Kindle said firing a blast at the dragon, the flames simply rolling off if it's hide. It stared at them for a few moments before roaring and sending a blast of flame at them itself, scorching the ground and causing all to duck for cover. Vimes ducked behind a large rock just in time, he could feel the heat singe the tips of his hair and scorch the ends of his coat. "What part of no sudden movements did you not understand?!" he yelled at Kindle. "Seriously now! Stop antagonizing giant FIRE BREATHING LIZARDS!" |

Thorn had to dive behind the rocks to keep his fur from catching from the intense wildfire that spewed from the dragons mouth. It looked annoyed now *WHAT MORTAL DARES DISTURB ME?* came a voice so large and forceful that Thorn at first thought it had been aloud before he relized there had been no actual sound, *AH, OF COURSE 'HEROES'. ONLY A HERO WOULD BE SO BOLD AND STUPID AS TO ATTACK A DRAGON.* Then the obvious hit Thorn like a stack of bricks, "Are you Malek?" he called cursing his stupidity for not thinking of it right off the bat. This was the Hedge of course, and someone knowelagable in magic might not necisarily be human. *OF COURSE I AM MALEK,* said the dragon, *YOU BELIEVED ME TO BE SOME FRAGILE OLD MAN? HA, I AM THE GREATEST DRAGON IN THE WORLD, AND DO NOT FORGET IT.* Edited by daioni, Nov 5 2008, 09:03 AM.

"I found a dragon!" Tobor said cheerfully, appearing from behind Malek's bulk. "I'll feed him and clean up after him! Can I keep him?" "What, exactly, would you feed him?" Kindle asked, dreading the answer even as she asked the question. "Condemned criminals, of course," Tobor said, rolling his photoreceptors. "And emo kids. People no one cares about." "That's horrible!" Kindle said, scowling at Tobor. *THAT SOUNDS DELICIOUS, ACTUALLY* Malek said, smiling slightly at the robot. *HE EXPLAINED THIS 'EMO' TO ME, AND I AM INTRIGUED. I USED TO HAVE A TASTE FOR YOU MORTALS, BUT I TIRED OF THE 'HEROES' THAT KEPT COMING AND TRYING TO SLAY ME FOR MY OCCASIONAL SNACK. BUT I DIGRESS. THIS METAL MAN CLAIMS ONE OF YOU WANTS A FAVOR FROM ME, YES?* |

Thorn catiously came out from his hiding place, moving closer to the dragon. "My name is Thorn," he said, "I was told that you would have the answers I seek, I was hoping you could..." he started, nervious from the intense stare and stench of slfer on the dragons breath, but the dragon inturrupted. *QUIT YOUR WHIMPERING,* he said, *IT WILL BE QUICKER IF I JUST READ YOUR MIND* he said, a he seemed to concentrate, though Thorn swore he heard some wisperings of some sort of spell, thousgh they were spoken to softly and quickly for him to make them out. "You can do that?" he asked, wondering how much the dragon actual was capable of. *OF COURSE, I AM OLDER THEN YOU CAN IMAGINE, READING A MORTALS MIND IS CHILD'S PLAY FOR ME* The dragon seemed to focus in, *SO, YOU SEEK TO BEST THE FAE WITH YOUR... 'MAGIC'.* With that he let out what sounded like a roar mixed with laughter, *JUST LIKE A MORTAL TO TERM ANYTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY MAGIC.* "What do you mean?" asked Thorn confused at the humor the Dragon got out of this. *FAE DO NOT USE MAGIC, FAE ARE ABOVE MAGIC, THEY BREAK PHYSICAL LAW COMPLETELY, THAT WHICH YOU TERM AS MAGIC IS NO MORE THEN THE UNDOING AND REMAKING OR REALITY. YOU STAND NO CHANCE AT BESTING THEM. YOU YOURSELF DRAW NOT ON MAGIC BUT THE POWER OF YOUR FAE MASTER, AND TRYING TO BEST HIM IN WHAT LITTLE SKILLS YOU HAVE NOW WOULD BE ASKING HIM TO KILL HIMSELF FOR YOU.* "There has to be a way!" yelled Thorn, forgetting fear at the thought that the fae were untouchable. *OF COURSE THEIR A WAY, THERE IS ALWAYS A WAY. YOU CANNOT BEAT THE FAE WITH THEIR OWN POWER, BUT YOU CAN BEAT THEM WITH MAGIC OF YOUR OWN.* "Didn't you say that their is no magic?" chimed in Kindle. *OF COURSE THEIR IS MAGIC, GREAT MAGIC, BUT THE FAE HAVE NONE OF IT, I MYSELF HAVE MASTERED IT OVER COUNTLESS MELLENIA, ALL IT TAKES IS THE WILL TO DO IT AND THE RIGHT INSTUCTIONS.* With that he waved a claw over the center of the clearing, and a glowing blue light seemed to rise out of the stone itself, before dimming until what appeared to be a book of some kind, *BEHOLD, THE ANCIENT GRIMORUM, BOUND IN IT'S PAGES LIFETIMES OF SPELLS AND RITUALS.* Thorn stepped forward, looking at the book and about to reach a hand up to take it, when Malek brought his claw down sending the book back into the mountain where it came from. Thorn had to leap back to avoid being crushed by the dragon in the process. *FOOLISH BOY, ARE YOU SO ARROGENT TO BELIEVE I WOULD SIMPLY GIVE AWAY SUCH A POWER? THIS POWER TEMPERS THE STRONG, BUT DESTROYS THE WEAK MINDED, DO YOU BELIEVE YOURSELF WORTHY TO WIELD IT!?" Fire seemed to be visible at the dragons throat, as if it's flames were kindled, and the light in it's eyes seemed to look through all those present. Since his escape, Thorn had gone through fear, anger, and hopelessness, but now, he felt none of it, he was ready, ready to fight back. "I do!" he yelled, the challange in his voice. *THEN YOU, ALL OF YOU, PROVE IT! SHOW ME THE STRENGTH OF MORTALS!* and with that, the dragon let lose a volley of flames. Thorn leapt out of its path, the rocks igniting from the heat. The flam seemed to come alive, shooting a line around the edge of the clearing, creating a wall of flames, the light of which created what could only be described as the scene of an epic battle. |
