Name: Thorn, Kevin Ross

Birth Date: July 7, 2001 (appears in his mid 20s)

Physical Description: Beastial features in his face reminiscing of a lion. His hair is long, with his appearance it looks like a mane. His ears are long and pointed, he is covered with fine golden brown. His hands are clawed. His eyes remain a pale blue.

His clothing is reminiscent of 16th century gentleman’s clothing, a green long jacket with ruffled sleeves, no under shirt, gold front clasps and cords that cross his torso. He wears a purple sash and brown pants.

Job: Magic User and ‘Ruler’ of the Hedge

Equipment:
The Ancient Grimorum: A spell book once kept in the possession of the dragon Malek. The book is a collection of ancient spells, incantations and rituals. The book itself is a magical item, containing in its pages more information then the size of the book could actually contain. When the book is opened it automatically opens to the information the bearer is generally seeking.

The spells can be divided into four different categories: Cantrips, Encounter, Daily, and Utility Spells. Cantrips are low level spells that are relatively simple and can be used at will, and are easy to remember and retain over long periods. Encounter spells are more complex and powerful, requiring a few minutes to rest before casting again, making them more suitable to single encounters, but also are easy to retain and remember over a period of time. Daily Spells are much more powerful, but are too complex and powerful to be able to cast more then once without resting and rememorizing the spell once more. Utility spells are for the most part, support spells that can fall into either daily or encounter range, but are focused more towards support and defense rather then attack. Daily Utility spells must be memorized each time they are cast. At present, Thorn can retain 2 cantrips, 2 encounter, 1 daily, and 1 utility spells at any given time as long as he has them memorized(2/2/1/1). In order to memorize a new spell he must forget one previously memorized.

-Spells: 2/2/2/2
-Spells: 2/3/3/2
-Spells: 2/4/3/4
-Spells: 3/4/3/5
-Spells: 3/4/4/6
-Spells: 4/4/4/7

The book is devided into several chapters:
The Chapter of the Archmage: Chapter of basic wizard spells and rituals. Rituals are more like ceremonies, requiring components and instructions to use and are not really combat oriented. They do not require memorization, but take longer(At least ten minutes) to accomplish, though their effects are more potent. A ritual can be cast as many times as one likes, as long as the componenets and instructions are completed correctly.

-Chapter of the Elderich Sword: Chapter of Spells useful in colse range melee combat.

-Chapter of Arcane Alchemy: Chapter containing the methods to creating minor magical reagents, potions, and items. Anything created using this chapter is a permanent thing, though it only has a one use limitation, after which it is consumed or destroyed once it's power is used.

-Chapter of Dark Pacts: A Chapter containing powerful spells and curses. Thorn never casts out of this chapter due to the alliances one muct make with powerful entities, though it remains in the book. A non magical person could use this chapter to gain magic power via a pact.

-The Hedgeborn Staff: A staff through which Thorn can channel his magic. Spells channeled through the staff are enhanced and more potent and powerful. The staff is a source of magic, enabling anyone weilding it to use magic as long as they have some method of spellcasting, even if they have no real magic of their own.

Powers:
Magic Genetics: Due to Fae tampering, Thorns genetic structure and protogene have been altered so that he is genetically inclined towards magic. This allows him to instinctively use magic without the years of magical training required for a normal person to do so, allowing him to effectively master any magical knowledge or objects with relative ease. This is notany type of enhance learning, but a compatability with magic in general, so that magic effectivly works with him rather then against. On average he is able to master magic 75% faster.

*The Hedge: Thorn can open a door to the Hedge from any between, things that are half and half, such as shadows, doorways, and reflections. He is also able to shape the Hedge relatively well compared to others, and navigated it’s changing landscape without trouble.

Skills:
Nimble: Quick on his feet, and hard to hit.
Fearless: Having overcome his fear of the Fae, Thorn fears little else, having faces his demons and overcome. Very hard to intimidate.
Staff/Cane fighting: If you can’t cast spells, you need a back up plan.
Quick study: Remembers instructions well, can easily rememorize spells on the fly.

Personality: Thorn has come a long way since his escape from the Fae. Where once he trusted no one, wounds have started to heal, and he has opened up a bit more. He has developed somewhat of a crush on Lil Devil since their first meeting, but has not acted on his feelings as of yet. Having faced his demons, Thorn has become much more confident and courageous, where once he would have run, he now has the will to fight.

Past: Originally, Thorn was owned by the Fae due to a deal with his parents, and imprisoned under Lord Wrodon, he was transfigured to guard his gardens. However, the Fae warping of his body had an unforeseen side effect, interacting with his protogene and genetics, unintentionally altering him so he was genetically inclined to magic. However, this was not realized until much later. This interaction freed him of direct Fae control, but left him linked on a fundamental level with them, granting him many abilities drawn from them.

While his true name remains under Fae control, Thorn remains linked to them, and may have remained that way, if not for Lilith’s intrusion. She convinced Thorn to train under her, which helped him get over his immediate fear of the Fae, as well as giving him the tactical abilities he would need in order to retrieve his name. He was instructed to visit Malek, and after being tested by the dragon, was given the Grimorum, turning his back on the power of the Fae, which caused his fae abilities to faulter and fade, the first step to freedom.

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

I would like just a little more specifics of his powers. I'm fine with him having an instinctive understanding of magic; his past adequately explains that for me. No, I'm not overlooking the word 'relative' in regards to the ease with which he learns to utilize magic, but everyone has their strengths in magic. The fact that Fae influenced his protogene makes me lean towards thinking his strengths should leans towards illusion, enchantment and evocation.

On that line of thinking, I'm not going to press the issue of where his strengths and weakness lie, but I do want you to give me some arbitrary values for what 'relatively' is supposed to mean. Does he pick up the knowledge 25% faster than the average person? 50%? Does he learn twice as fast? More? There are degrees of relativity, and I'd like to know that they are. You don't have to give actual times, just how he compares.

I'm not entirely sure how to measure his his ability, it's not that he actual learns faster then others, its that he more compatable with it. I guess you could compare him to a conductor for magic, it flow naturally through him as opposed to a normal person, so magic works with him, not against him. So really, he has no specific strength or weakness in magic, he could cast any spell and it would still work for him equally well, he just has a limit on how many he can cast.

I don't really see how the fae would influence the type of magic he would use, as it has been stated many times before, they do not use magic. Just my 2 cents.

He's not getting approved before the adventure that causes the change to happen is finished.

How old would someone assume he was? Cause without that in his physical description people will assume that he looks seven.
