It had been a long week since the incident. Things had settled down and returning to normal. As normal as things got in this city. They had finally gotten to the point where they could begin Artanis introduction into society. While the alien would easily be mistaked for a protochild, it was deemed best if he remained at Silver Shield until they could process an I.D. and teach him the customs of Earth. This had proved exceedingly hard on Artanis, as the process had been delayed. He had spent 3 years in stasis, and now could feel the city beyond the steel walls. Zirconium walked down the hall to Artanis's quarters. The guard at the door nodded as he entered. Artanis wasn't really a prisoner, but over the past cople of days, he had been growing exceedingly restless, and the guard was put in place to escort him around the bas eshould he wish to stretch his legs. Artanis' room spoke of his alien heratage. He had carven a few alien symbols into the walls, and the room was dotted with a few strange crystals dotting the walls that shed light into the room which Artanis had started 'growing' using a few shards he had recovered from his crash site. The feel was almost like sunlight, Zirconium guessed he preferred natural lights to the artificial lamps. A small pool was located in the room, made into a make-shift fountain that kept the water moving. "Artanis?" said Zirconium, guessing the alien was in the back room working on some of his devices. No one answered. Going into the back, he found it deserted, save the parts and leftover scraps of metal from the ship. "Oh crud." said Zirconium, going back to the guard. "Did Artanis leave his room?" he asked. "No sir," said the guard. "Then where is he?" said Zir, gesturing to the empty room, "Did you leave your post?" "No sir, I heard Artanis not half an hour ago after I used the rest room." said the guard, gesturing at the mens room that was in the hall. "You went to the men's room?" "Yes, all of the sudden, I really had to go, but I called out to Artanis when I got back and I heard him call back." "Oh crud..." Said Zir again, "Artanis is telepathic, you couldn't have heard him, he must have slipped out and sent you the message." Zirconium called in the disappearance, but Artanis was nowhere on base. One of the bay doors was found unlocked, and servaliance tapes showed that Artanis had slipped out during a mysterious bout severe rest room calls... |
