Chaos more or less summed up the situation along the streets a few blocks away from the Silver City Treasury. The ambush was swift and decisive; Blaze exploded nearly fifty yards of the street ahead of and behind the train of armored cars, forcing them to stop so that the Nine Pieces could close in for the grab. Other gangs had been tipped off one way or another about the hit, too, and they were standing by for the Nine Pieces' big plan. As soon as it started, they took action as well, turning a well planned ambush into a slaughterhouse of police officers and gang members. Had it not been for the Silver Shield escort it would have been over within the hour. Unfortunately, things were still settling up on behalf of the gangsters, slowly but surely. At present, Saurus had his hands full fending off a persistent group of mingling Third Eyes and Technos, each attacking fiercely with their gang's unique choice of weaponry. Their attacks did simply bounce off of him, for the most part, but they chose guerrilla tactics for their assault, firing off quick but powerful volleys of laser blasts, rockets, magic missiles, and hexes from narrow alleyways that Saurus was unable to fit into without tearing down entire buildings. It didn't take him long to figure out throwing light poles and anything else small enough to fit between the structures but heavy enough to do some damage was his best option, but the gangsters had strong shields that were still holding thus far. Saurus knew it was only a matter of time before they failed, but he wondered if the gangs would have obtained whatever they were after by then. Meanwhile, Silver Blur had her hands full as well. Dealing with narrow alleyways wasn't a problem, nor was the onslaught of various armaments. Her dilemma was the overwhelming numbers. It seemed to her as if every single gang member in the city had decided to take a shot at this train. Why she was not sure, but whatever the reason it was obviously a huge incentive. A Silver Dragon, also blessed with super speed, engaged her for a few moments before she managed to catch his arm, pivot, and throw him over her shoulder into one of the two armored cars still standing upright, knocking him unconscious. She then returned her attention to the waves of thugs coming out of the woodwork, trying to stop them from stealing as much as she could, which she did fairly well, but there were too many and she could not stop all of them. Suddenly, there was the slightest lull in the fighting as several gang members seemed to freeze in place and then were knocked unconscious by blows to the head from a seemingly normal young man. "Behold the power my God has granted me to rid this world of sinners," he spoke plainly and his voice was barely audible over the sound of gunfire and the wind whistling through Silver Blur's ears as she continued to dodge attacks and altered her path to make her way to him. However, as soon as she came within a few feet of him, he disappeared without a trace. Rose stopped and blinked several times to make sure she was seeing clearly and looked around for the man, temporarily forgetting where she was in her surprise. "What the...What was that?" She murmured to herself before resuming her defense of what was left of the train. |

Machine had noticed the man as well and made sure to put him down under his list of things that don't immediately apply. His sonic disruptors were taking care of most of the Technos and his repulsors were easily defeating the Nine Dragons, Blaze was the complication. "How bout I heat you up like a can of jiffy pop?" Blaze said, the eternal grin on his face seeming all the more malevolent through the flames. He let off blast after blast of heat searing fire through the air. Machine dodged left and right, firing at Blaze when he had the chance and the other criminals when he didn't have to worry about roasting. He could feel the sweat dripping down his head, his systems could only protect him but so much. "I knew a guy like you back in the day, called himself Scorcher" Green Machine said, his voice metallic and synthesized. "Nice guy when he wasn't trying to kill you, hated water though" Machine fired blast after blast at the ground around Blaze weakening the street underneath him hoping to drop him into the sewers. He didn't get the chance to see his plan to fruition however as something knocked him out of the sky and into one of the armored trucks. Getting his wits together he saw a Silver Dragon floating a few feet above the ground, his eyes glowing red. "I hear you's some kind a old young man or summtin" he said. "I don't wanna beat up no old man, you's should stay down" Green Machine replied by blasting the kid in the face. "You know I remember when you guys got started. You were just some punk kids with jackets" He blasted another Nine Pieces member into a wall and walked up to the Dragon who was already getting up. "What's your name son?" "Jeremy" he said his eyes blue for a moment before returning to a burning red. "Take a nap Jeremy" The blast sent Jeremy through a street lamp and into a wall, though the attempts to get back up showed no serious injury. "I swear they get younger and younger" |

"I got me some biiiig fists, So I'm punchin' me some gaaaaangers," sang the Lolrus, "I'm punchin' 'em through buildings, aaalll day loooong!" "Do you have any idea how obnoxious and annoying that is?" Saurus asked, currently locked in a grapple with an apelike creature with a golden coin tattoo. He slammed the ape into the ground with the wet sound of bones being mashed into jelly and the ape transformed back into the bloody mess of a ganger in need of serious medical care. "Of course I do," Lolrus replied, slamming his fists down on the pavement, causing a ripple through the street and sending a large group of gangers trying to dart between buildings up into the air. "Look! I picked up the Spare!" |

Performing several handsprings and finishing with a double somersault through the air with such finesse it would make an Olympic gymnast turn green, Seth landed in the middle of a group of Silver Dragons in a crouch and use a sweep kick to knock all but one to the ground. That one grabbed Seth by the front of his shirt and lifted him up in the air. "Ye'll have to do better than that, hero!" his voice dripping with menace and sarcasm as he grinned and prepared to throw Seth into a wall. Seth smirked back and said, "How's this?" With blinding speed he raised his fist as the runes along his arms shown bright and punched the Dragon in the chest. The resulting explosion incapacitated and severely injured everyone within fifty or sixty feet of him, and the Dragon went flying through a few brick walls with a large chunk missing from his chest. It would be a miracle if he lived. Seth almost felt bad for him; he had not meant to hit the guy that hard, but he was distracted as a small detachment of Technos assaulted him with intricate looking cybernetic body suits. Seth simply raised a hand with his splayed fingers pointed roughly at five of the seven Technos. The hesitated for a moment then continued their rush. A split second later, five small beams of energy shot from each of Seth's fingers into their respective targets to trash the suits in one move and send the thugs flying out into the street, unconscious and in need of a hospital bed. Down the street, Dante had arrived only a few moments ago and found the perfect target. Blaze was just touching down back on the street after using his flames like rocket boosters to save himself from the water in the sewers when Dante stepped in front him, sword drawn and balanced on his shoulder. He pointed at the villain and said, "So, you're a fire user, too? Let's see how you match up against me." Dante's hand opened up and a fireball formed a moment later, then immediately fired off at Blaze's face. Blaze stood smiling as the fireball stopped then reversed direction to meet Dante's sword where it went out. "That wasn't very smart. Don't tell me you thought that would actually work," Blaze said snidely as he prepared two fireballs of his own. Meanwhile, almost no one noticed the small groups of thugs freezing and then suddenly appearing on the ground unconscious or worse. And from every group stepped the same young man. He wandered through the battlefield as if he were invincible, and, oddly enough, he had not received so much as a scratch. He simply kept his pace moving from gangster to gangster and dispatching them individually, all the while wearing a confident blissful grin on his face. Father time turned as an oversized Third Eye rushed him, obviously empowered by the talisman she wore around her neck, but as soon as she came within about four feet of him, she froze in mid-strike. Due to the seemingly never ending carnage around them, no one noticed her stop. Joshua looked her over briefly, eyeing the talisman especially, then reached out and snatched it from her neck with a tug that broke the narrow cord it hung from. He looked over the artifact for a moment, the girl still hanging suspended in time, then scowled at it. "Filthy devilry," he spat and focused on it, aging it to dust. He then turned to the girl and, focusing solely on her, sped time as fast as he could. Unable to stop her own momentum quickly enough, and having reverted to her weak human form without the aid of her talisman, the young girl slammed into the pavement with a sickening thud and lay there without moving. Father Time ceased his focus on her and moved on to his next target, letting the dust in his hand slip between his fingers as he walked. |

A shout rang out over the din of the melee, and a small group of Nine Pieces parted and faded into the rest of the fight as a single ganger advanced, getting larger and more heavily muscled with each step until he was as large as Saurus and as buff as the Lolrus. He grinned evilly at the Lolrus and motioned with his hand as if to say "bring it." Lorlus took a fighting stance and bellowed a challenge, unsure as to the why except that it felt right. the din was momentarily silenced, his roar drowning out everything while it lasted. A wave of energy rippled through the air in front of him in a cone, and the humans in its path were caught up in the wave and sent flying. The giant in front of the Lolrus braced himself against the wave and was only rocked backwards momentarily, but before he could react the Lolrus slammed into him in a vicious shoulder tackle. The giant went flying backwards a few yards, landing in a heap. The giant came to his senses just in time to roll out of the way as the Lolrus came down with a flying elbow slam into the street. Lolrus hit with such force that he crashed through the street and into the sewers, collapsing much of the street and sending the giant and a good number of Nine Piece members down into the sewers with him. The melee paused momentarily at the commotion, staring at the cloud of dust sent up by the impact. Suddenly the Lolrus was sent flying backwards out of the cloud, the giant ganger charging after him. Lolrus hit the ground and scrambled to his feet in time to meet the giant's charge head on. There was the sound of a sonic boom as the two supermen impacted, and when the dust cleared the Lolrus was still standing but barely, and the giant was about to topple over. Lolrus slammed one enormous fist into the Giant's stomach, then lifted the giant over his head. "Saurus!" he shouted over the crowd. A huge lizard-like head turned to look at him. "Batter up!" Saurus grinned, and his tail began lashing back and forth. The Lolrus hurled the giant at Saurus with all his might, and at the last moment Saurus spun like a top and with a mighty *CRACK*, hit the giant with his tail and sent him flying up through the air. High above the street the giant was intercepted by the Judge, who finished the giant off by catching him and redirecting his path down into the ground with added force. "Grand Slam!" Roared Saurus. "And the crowd goes wild!" Lolrus bellowed back. The two dove back into the melee, the remains of their enmity before the Crash fading in the euphoria of the fight. |

The Green Machine grinned under his helmet. The two supermen worked well together despite their former relationship and the Judge's A.I. was progressing at a rate he had not imagined before. Unfortunately it looked like the gangers were just getting started. He didn't want to admit it but he missed this, the adrenaline rush and the euphoria of battle. He landed among a group of Dragons and backhanded one through a fence and kicked another into a lamp post. "Don't you guys ever quit?" he asked, punching one of them across the street into a wall. He spun around to punch the last Dragon to realize that Tigress had already taken him down and had moved on to the next group of gangsters. "The girl's quick" he muttered to himself. He watched for a few minutes as she made short work of even the more complicated of the gangsters. His observations were cut short when something blasted him through one of the armored trucks, he groaned as he sat up and saw what hit him. The man stood easily eight feet tall, the only visibly human parts of him was the left side of his face, the rest nothing but machinery. The pulled up his hand again, instead of a real hand it was simply a cannon, and fired off a concentrated blast of sonic energy. Machine screamed as he was blasted through a large group of gangsters and also into the Lolrus' back. "Sorry about that kid" Machine said while his systems adjusted to the damage. The cyborg continued to walk up to them and was barely phased when hit with one of the Green Machine's repulsors. The Green Machine looked between the Lolrus and the cyborg and at the street full of gangsters. He activated his communicator and sent out a message to all the participating Silver Shield members. "Get into side alleys now!" he yelled over the com. He looked up at the Lolrus and said, "Do that bellow thing again, but first throw me as hard as you can at the cyborg guy, then do the bellow thing, as much force as you can get behind it!" Not bothering to argue, the Lolrus grabbed Green Machine in one of his massive fists and threw him, immediately after leaving his hand the Green Machine turned on his boosters full power and rocketed towards the cyborg while the Lolrus did his job and bellowed with such force that glass shattered and armored trucks were knocked rolling. The Green Machine tilted his head and slammed into the cyborg's stomach with a head but and with what wits he still had left after that extended his arms and fired a continuous blast with his repulsors at both sides of the street. For an instant he could have sworn that he had stopped moving entirely and that someone moved out of the way but it didn't register as he slammed into the corner of a building at the intersection of the street and brought that corner down on top of himself and the cyborg. There were a few moments when nothing moved but then the bricks moved aside and the Cyborg stood and toppled over, the Green Machine standing having moved him out of the way. His suit was torn in a few areas and dented in even more, the paint scratched off almost the entire thing. Sparks flew a bit as he tore off his ruined helmet and examined his handy work as best he could with a concussion. Most of the gangsters were down but their job still looked far from over. "Of course" he mumbled before stumbling off the bile of bricks. |

Seth gave a sigh of aggravation as the Dragon he'd been dueling against for the past ten minutes rose from yet another pile of rubble and brushed himself off again. "Don't you ever stop?" He asked more to himself than to the Dragon, but he didn't wait for an answer. Grabbing a Techie as he ran by, Seth first headbutted him once to knock him unconscious then snatched the laser rifle from his hands and tossed the Techie aside. The protochild hurled the rifle like a spear at the Tank who refused to stay down and who promptly caught the weapon. "Idiot," Seth muttered as he immediately fired a basketball sized blast at the rifle, detonating both the energy ball and the rifles power pack to create a massive explosion that flattened most everyone on the street and sent a couple armored cars rolling. Seth, who had shielded his eyes from the flying debree and dust with both arms, lowered them to see Tank walking, completely unphased, through the cloud of dust that had not yet settled toward him. Seth sighed again and said, "Fine. Guess I have to use my last resort." Seth held up one arm, bent at the elbow and fingers flat together, and the runes on it shone even through the fighter's wraps that still remained on just that one arm. A second later energy engulfed his hand and most of his forearm and extended outward with his arm about four feet to a sharp point to create a blade of pure energy. He lowered the blade to his side and charged as fast as he could at Tank. At the last second, with inhuman speed, Seth jumped and slashed upwards with all his might, leaving a spectral trail of light for a brief moment in the air where he struck, and landed behind Tank to skid and spin so that he faced him again. Tank seemed to have stopped for a moment, then collapsed with a heavy thud that threw up even more dust. Seth tried another sigh, this one of relief, but was interrupted by the fist that slammed into the side of his head and sent him flying into the next intersection and through the meager barricade the police had erected in an attempt to isolate the incident. Seth picked himself up again and shook his head and put one hand to it. His hand came away with a bit of blood. This new opponent was going to be even tougher. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In the middle of the street, Father Time stood beside the wreckage of one of the armored cars taking in the scene around him. Most of the gangsters had either been defeated or fled, carrying with them whatever bounty they could get their hands on. Those that fled would have to be dealt with later, but those that remained were godless sinners, using the powers of the devil or some unknown evil to wreak havoc on the earth. Even these so-called 'heroes', this Silver Shield, was enlisting abominations and men wielding powers unfit for mankind. Father Time scowled as he listened to his Lord's voice issuing His commands, then bowed his head and made the sign of the cross before stepping back into the battle, his eyes now set on a being obviously born from the fires of hell itself and a young sinner fighting with the same flames. Even with most of the fighting coming quickly to an end, almost no one noticed this single man, barely into his twenties, casually strolling across this hellhole of a street, and those that did had no time to investigate as they were predisposed with battles of their own. |

Agile as ever for a man his age, Blaze nimbly dodged the great katana blade as it crashed into the concrete, rending a gash in the street, and swiftly countered with a well aimed fireball that was almost immediately deflected by the same blade. It hadn't taken the psychopath long to realize his younger opponent wasn't fireproof like he was, but he was still having trouble wounding the guy because of his impressive speed. If anyone had asked, he would have denied that his recent avoidance of death had been a lucky stroke that he had managed to move fast enough, but even he had to admit to himself that this was true. This young man was faster than he was, stronger, too, and he was obviously experience in combat for his age. This made him a dangerous opponent. But Blaze was no novice, either, and his powers far surpassed Dante's. If he so desired, he could simply burn the young man alive without so much as batting an eye, but he was enjoying himself and this punk had challenged him personally. Why disappoint? The two danced around the street, hurling fireballs and waves of flame, steadily turning what had once been a street, then a battleground, into a blackened mass grave for anyone unlucky enough to get caught in those flames or in the earlier crossfire. Neither of them noticed the other young man, simply dressed and cool as a cucumber in such a dangerous setting, approaching them from further down the street. Lucky for them, or perhaps lucky for Joseph as he would find Blaze difficult to dispatch at first, Saurus stumbled past, having been shoved back by one of the few remaining supers with enough strength to tangle with the saurian-human hybrid, and stepped just inside Father Time's field. He stepped close enough to cause Joseph to stop and turn his focus from the two pyrokinetics and onto Saurus, and so when the Silver Shield member stepped into the field he froze instantly, stuck in time for as long as he remained within Joseph's influence. Father Time eyed the great beast with contempt, wondering disgustedly what kind of soul would allow such a monstrosity to live on this earth. He was about to age the creature to dust when he noticed the super Saurus had been fighting charge with fists at the ready. Father Time glowered at this man, as well, and stepped between the two, careful to keep Saurus within his field, and faced the charging super. Glancing down, he noticed a broken shard of steel. Joseph picked it up and aimed the sharpest edge towards the approaching super and gave it a light throw, then focused intently on it to speed up time around it as fast as he could, causing it to suddenly shoot through the air like a harpoon shot from a cannon and through the chest of the charging super. The man's face flicked between pain and shock as his legs faltered and he tripped and tumbled the rest of the way before coming to a stop at Joseph's feet, a gaping wound pouring blood out onto the rubble of the street like one of those little fountains people keep in their house. One having been dealt with, Joseph turned slowly to face Saurus, wondering how he would slay this demon next. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Down the street, Seth was grappling with his newest opponent. Stronger and more durable than the tank he finally defeated last, this new guy also wielded cryokinesis. He and Seth were currently struggling to gain leverage over the other, each using his own unique blade: Seth with his sword of pure energy that grew directly from his forearm that glowed bright with its runes, and the long, thin but strong rapier looking weapon of the gangster. Seth had dubbed the thug Freeze, for that was what was tattooed across his bare heavily muscled chest. Finally, Seth used his free hand to slam an energy packed punch into Freeze's gut, the force of the punch and the following explosion sending him high into the air, although Seth knew he would fall to the ground in a few seconds and rise again unscathed. Not that it mattered. The protochild needed to follow one of the fleeing gangsters back to their hideaway to see if he could find their leader. Sure, Seth played hero from time to time, but Silver Shield could take it from here. He'd helped as much as he needed to and now his real quarry was escaping. Not so fast! Seth thought to himself as he put on as much speed as he could and raced after the surviving thugs. He was in an alley connected to the next street over before Freeze landed on the charred and warped remains of an armored truck. |

"Freeze!" The Green Machine yelled at Joshua, "Step away from that dinosaur man" Machine had his fist pointed at Joshua from about ten feet away and was motioning for him to step away get on his knees. The fighting was dying down, the majority of the gangsters had run off, preferring that to being arrested. Joshua looked at him puzzled and then angry. "Who are you to command the servant of God?" he demanded. "The Green Machine" He replied firing a weak blast into the man knocking him several paces backwards onto his back. |

Joshua grunted as the blast struck him, but he managed to keep his balance, wobbling only a bit as he stopped. He stared in surprise and outrage at the Green Machine, unable to believe this man had managed to touch him. His control over time itself should have stopped the attack cold. After a moment he regained his composure and decided it did not matter. He had more ways to overcome this sinner. Without missing a beat, Father Time suddenly lessened his own age to that of a ten year old child. His clothes, now too large to fit, crumpled around the child and only half covering him. The boy looked up at Green Machine with soft tear-brimmed eyes, the eyes of an innocent. "Please, sir," the child's voice pleaded quietly, just audible over the last bit of fighting, "Please, don't hurt me. I'm just a kid." Suddenly, Dante skidded along the ground to stop between Green Machine and Joshua, and finally cut horizontally through another fireball Blaze had hurled at him, sending sparks and dying veins of fire in all directions, and used the momentum to swing his blade up and bring it down in a vertical slash, unleashing a wave of fire from it and giving a shout as he did. The wave arced through the air to explode harmlessly on the pyrokinetic. The only damage was to his clothes, which were now in smoking tatters, but Blaze paid them no mind. His sadistic grin was vivid and alive as flames engulfed both of his forearms. The psychopath noticed the small child out of the corner of his eye and decided to use the hero's goodness against him. He thrust out one arm and a blast of fire rushed toward the child. Dante saw him make his move, noticed the child, and sprinted between the fire and the boy. He drew his sword between the two of them and attack slammed into the blade and pushed Dante back just far enough to enter Joshua's field of control. Instantly, he froze where he stood, still defending the boy behind him, but unable to do anything more. No one noticed the eerie spark that sprang between Father Time and Dante Miles except Joshua himself. Green Machine was distracted by the sudden intrusion of Blaze, Blaze was focused on killing Dante, and Dante was temporarily suspended in time. |

Without realizing it at first, Joshua instantly knew who this sword wielding man defending him was. He knew it in his bones, in his very soul. He knew exactly who it was and was immediately determined to protect him. Ignoring the other heroes, Joshua focused entirely on Dante, speeding up time around him until he was moving nearly as fast as Silver Blur. Dante suddenly moved with blinding speed to engulf his own weapon in flames once again and then blast those flames at Blaze's attack, fighting fire with fire to extinguish both moves. He rushed forward, almost too fast to follow, and had Blaze unconscious on the ground before anyone realize what he had done. Then, Joshua gathered his clothes carefully and aged back into the young man he was before and strode to stand before Dante. He spoke calmly but with shock and relief both altering his tone. "Come with me, young man. I have much to tell you." He reached out to take Dante by the arm, and another spark leapt between them, but Joshua ignored it--mostly--this time. Dante merely stared at where it had been in amazement and then allowed Joshua to tow him towards the heroes, as they were between the two and the nearest exit from the street. |
