The origins of darkness It was in a time that lacks any form of definition that I first became aware. I say became aware rather then be born because to be born something must give birth to you. As I was the first thing to exist in this world I gave birth to myself and so I simply say that I became aware. For eons after that I continued to spread my awareness which at that point was infinite already. I was that thing that man feared before he was. That thing that existed before anything. I was everywhere and because of it I was nowhere. You see I speak like this because it is hard to describe something that lacks any form of definition or comparison simply because nothing else existed for me to be compared to. That changed after a span. I still hadn’t created time so there really was no measure. I noticed what I would later call a gap in myself. When I focused my essence into that gap something came out of it. In the time that followed I would often wonder what would have happened if I hadn’t focused on it. I do not regret the decision because if I hadn’t I never would have been entertained. But the thing that came out wasn’t like me. It was different where I lacked a sex he had one. Where I was infinite he was compressed. Where I was unnamed he had already given himself definition and so it was he who spoke the first words and with them bore into existence power. I will never forget them for they where simple words but as I said before powerful. BE. That simple word started it all. And after it had been spoken he was no more. It was as if speaking that word had used so much of the power that he had just created that he had none left to maintain himself. Thinking back if I had thought to do it I probably would have done the same thing though even now I’m not so sure that I didn’t. Suddenly everything was and I now had things to be compared to. I was mist. I was water. I was air. I was darkness. The final comparison was my true definition or at least the only one that I have ever found that could be comprehended by any but myself. For thousands of years thing where but nobody was. What I mean to say is that there where plants. There was water. There was everything but moving life. For I had already learned that these thing lived, thought, and felt. They did not truly move. They simply existed. But the fact that they felt made me wonder if I could. And so one day I tried. It was the first time I was entertained. For a century I existed under water to find out what it felt like to be wet. I spent millennia in all feeling things so that I would know what they where. And in this time animals came to be. Huge waling lizards that knew of me but didn’t seem to think anything of it but to give me respect and a wide birth. But that all changed when man arrived. To this day they have remained my greatest source of entertainment. For it was man that named me and in so doing gave me that knowledge of how to use my powers. They called me, NOX. That is not to say that I interacted with man in his beginning. I simply touched his mind with my essence and gained knowledge of him. In doing so I gave man knowledge of myself as well. He could comprehend part of what I was now and began to realize other things around him. It was with this simple act the act of knowing that man began to change into the form we see now. But still I paid them no further mind for millennia. As man evolved I continued to explore this word and the space around it and within it. I had found a vast reserve of power that existed outside of the reach of normal beings but seemed too able to be accessed by the land itself for the purpose of healing and growing new life. I took a great interest in this and learned very quickly how to use it. Of course very quickly for me was only two thousand years. This was what humans would later call magic. I was fascinated by it and that fascination only grew when I learned o something that I had never seen before in all my years of life. A man who could wield the power as nature itself did. I still remember that mans name even now. Demagus. What an odd creature he was. Simultaneously feared and loved by his races much in the way they did me. He had a power that none of his kind had ever seen before. When I learned of him I focus all of my essence upon him. It was something I had never done before and haven’t done since. He wasn’t too different from his people in the physical sense. He had the same appendages and same general appearance. The most striking features were his height. He was significantly tall for his people nearly seven feet. His build was muscular which was actually very common at the time due mostly to the fact that the life they led was very physical, always moving, always working. He wore very plain clothes that hung off his frame slightly which was impressive in itself considering his height. They where the color of bleached bones. He also unlike many of the others had found something to protect his feet. It was really just a piece of old tree skin with animal hide keeping it on his feet. The most striking feature on him physically where his eyes and his hair. Both were pure white which for some reason I couldn’t fathom at the time fascinated me. As I said before I was fascinated by this human and so I watched him when I had found out all I could by observing from afar I did another thing I had never done before. I manifest myself physically. I didn’t know how to do it before I did. By that I mean that until after I had done it I couldn’t figure out how to. To say that Demagus was surprised would be an understatement. As my figure formed I chose the form of a female. I was the color of a starless night with eyes like the moon and hair like light. The others of Demagus’s tribe looked at me with fear and some with something else. It took time to figure out what. The wind told me it was due to the fact that I had not manifested clothing with me and I was what one would consider quite stunning in this form. I turned to Demagus and spoke to him in a way that words hadn’t been used until that time. But Demagus unlike any of his tribe understood me. The first thing I learned abou Demagus was a very simple yet startling fact. He was blind. That is not to say that I interacted with man in his beginning.
