"En Taro!" Kiernan replied. "Havanti ero kist navai?"

"You speak his language?" Lolrus asked. "He's been here, what, a couple months, and even Savant hasn't gotten conversational usage out of that gobbledy-gook."

"I took a class in it last year," Kiernan replied, "well, last year for me. It's complicated. Can I have your autograph?" Kiernan was practically convulsing with joy, wildly offering the stylus and pad to everyone gathered there.

"I have to give you some credit, kid. Usually I have to cause a lot of damage to get Mr. Smiley-Chest to come out of his cave. Unfortunately, your entrance scrambled my recording equipment, so now the next episode of my show will be late. Shame, shame, shame."

BatGuy whirled around, his voice becoming a harsh growl. "Jokester..."

"Oh how nice! You remembered my name!" the Jokester was sitting on a window ledge just ten feet off the ground, with a group of clown-painted thugs underneath him. "Are you able to play? Hahahahahaha!" The Jokester threw what looked like a rubber clown nose into the crowd, and it exploded with a noxious green gas that left people coughing and gagging for air. BatGuy leaped into the air towards Jokester, but was hit in midair by a barrage of paintballs that blinded him momentarily and left him covered in multiple neon colors.

"Couldn't afford real bullets for your goons, Jokester?" BatGuy growled, wiping the paint off his visor.

"Oh no. I just needed something to make you bait while I took care of this annoying pest," Jokester replied, calmly advancing towards Kiernan.

"Wha-" BatGuy was cut off when Ver-Man jumped him from behind a bush. "SHINEY!!!"

Lolrus moved to help BatGuy, but a blast of energy sent him tumbling through the front wall of a nearby townhouse. Some people in the crowd began to scream and the mob parted slightly as Geiger and several Silver Dragons advanced on the gathered heroes. "Nice gear, kid," Geiger said, holding a bolt of energy in his hand and playing with it like it was a twig. "Hand it over, and maybe nobody gets hurt."

As the heroes moved against the advancing threats, several members of the Golden Sword appeared on a nearby rooftop. "You all know the drill," Tricia Creed told the gathered members. "We want the boy alive and as unharmed as possible so he can tell us how his machinery works. If you are captured, you are on your own. Regardless of success or failure, return to the embassy as soon as you leave; Jumper will take you back to the 'homeland'."

Junk, Yuriko, and Eric nodded and moved to the edge of the roof. "This should be fun," Junk said as he stepped over the side.
