"So, using this business model, it's possible to-"

Suddenly, the Silver City Young Businessmen's group meeting was brought to a halt by a flash of light and a roar that blinded and deafened all those gathered for several seconds. Shaking his head and rubbing his eyes, Shane Bryce quickly surveyed the room to make sure everyone was all right. A few had fallen out of their chairs in surprise, but it looked like everyone was unharmed.

"Adam? You are excused from the rest of the meeting," Mr. Bryce said. "I'm sure you have an obligation to investigate." Bryce opened the large bay window and gestured outside; Adam nodded and leapt out the window, landing on the grounds as the Lolrus and running off towards the still-glowing source of the light.

"We will adjourn the meeting for the next two hours," Mr. Bryce said to the rest of the teenagers. "For safety's sake, Albert will escort you all to the shelter in the center of the building. I need to make some calls and attend to some emergency matters." As soon as the teenagers were out of the room, Albert and Bryce shared a knowing look, and Bryce opened a secret door that led to his BatGuy lair.

"Please do not be alarmed! The light and sounds are just the aftereffects of a temporal rift collapsing! There is no danger as long as you keep your distance and don't try to touch the rift! For your own safety and that of others, please remain calm!"

Kiernan wasn't sure of the date, not having had time to check his Thing, but if historical pictures and his calculations before the trip were correct then he was a thousand years in the past. The people nearby were frightened, but for the moment were heeding his advice and the rift behind him slowly shrank until it collapsed in upon itself and was gone.

"Please return to your homes," Kiernan shouted out. "There is nothing more to see. Please-" He was interrupted in mid sentence when a brick collided with his head. The impact didn't hurt, but it surprised him and threw him off guard.

"Freak!" someone in the crowd shouted, and soon the crowd began to turn ugly as more people began to get angry. Another brick was thrown, this one blasted out of the air by a pulse of energy. BatGuy landed next to Kiernan and the front row of the crowd-turning-mob retreated a foot or two in fear. "I don't know who you are or where you're-"

"CAN I HAVE YOUR AUTOGRAPH!?" Kiernan blurted out, pulling a stylus out of his Thing and bringing up a pad on its screen.

"Not now, you moron!" BatGuy shouted, swatting another brick out of the air. "If you haven't noticed, there's an angry mob right in front of us!"

The noise of the crowd became louder, and then silenced as a deafening bellow drowned them out. The Lolrus walked up to BatGuy and Kiernan, the crowd parting to allow him through rather than try to hinder him. "By the order of the Silver Shield, you are all to DISPERSE!"

Kiernan's grin widened so far it almost looked like the top of his head was going to fall off. "BatGuy AND the Lolrus?! This is the best day EVER!"
