"You didn't have to come here," Alyssa said, listening to the rain beat on the window. "It's raining cats and dogs." She and Garrett were in the living room of the small apartment Protogen had secured for her in one of their turf buildings. There were unfinished sculptures all over, along with CDs marked in braille, a stereo system, and bookshelves full of books on tape. Garrett always felt like he was entering a different world whenever he visited Alyssa, and in a way he guessed he was. "I didn't have anything better to do," Garrett replied, brushing it off. "I'm on leave for the next few days anyway." "You do realize you scared the crap out of the people downstairs when you came hurtling out of the wall socket, don't you?" Garrett laughed. "Yeah," he said. "The looks on their faces were priceless. Kilovolt's powers are pretty intense used like that. Anytime you want to travel like that, just let me know; you'll never forget the ride." "I already know," Alyssa said, smiling faintly. "The memory is playing across your mind as clear as a freshly painted mural." "Intruding in my thoughts, eh?" Garrett said mischievously. "Well, have at thee!" "Ewww!" Alyssa shrieked, laughing as she fell back on the couch, holding her head and groaning as she tried to banish the mental image Garrett had sent her. "You're gross!" I know, but you were asking for it, Garrett told her telepathically. But we're avoiding the subject. There was something you wanted to tell me. Alyssa sighed and sat back up, leaning into Garrett's shoulder. "There's something coming. Something BIG," she told him. "Something that will have everyone fighting, all the supers fighting each other. And people are going to die." "What are you talking about?" Garrett asked. "Why are you telling me?" "I've been having visions about it for the past couple weeks, every three or four days," Alyssa replied. "And I told you because half of the people I saw fighting were wearing Silver Shield badges even if I couldn't see their faces. You're the only person in the Silver Shield I know would take me seriously." "I don't really know what to say," Garrett said after a short pause. "What am I supposed to do with this information?" "Just tell your superiors," Alyssa told him. "Make sure they're aware. Maybe they'll be able to see it coming and sop it from happening. I don't know. It just scares me." |
